just getting started looking for advice

Hi all,

I am another newbie looking to find my way through all the info out there. I live on Vancouver island and looking to purchase my first PV. I am hoping that you guys can give me some advice to get me started.

My first experience with a e cig was just the other day. I have smoked a 1-2 packs a day for over 25 yrs and looking to quit but still enjoy smoking. This is such a great option for me and think I will enjoy the switch.

So far my research has me thinking of getting a joye 510 T from nicfitnation. I also understand that it is all in the juice. The one I tried was the nic free version and think if had the nic it would be prefect for me. I love smoking but have never liked the taste or stink of real cigs. My taste buds are not great from all the smoking anyway. I do think that I should try the tabacco blends for start of change over. What are your thoughts?

It would be good to hear from other newbies on there experiences starting with e cigs and flavours to start with.

Looks like a great forum and thanks for your advice

Tastes end up being really subjective (especially since our taste buds change when quitting cigarettes), so it's hard to pick a juice for someone else. Get some sampler packs and/or small bottles of a number of different flavors.

I personally really enjoy Swagger from PinkSpot, but it's not a very "tobacco-y" tobacco flavor, it's got caramel notes to it. I haven't gotten a PinkSpot flavor yet that didn't work for either me or my wife.

you came to the right place a ton of info here! I too started with a cig style ecig but quickly tired of all the hassles that go with them batteries, filling cartos etc... thats when I turned to the ECF. Right after I joined up all I heard about was people talking about the Reo devices so I decided to purchase 1 to see what all the hype was about and let me tell you there isn't a simpler, more user friendly, indestructible, device out there. I wont even get started about the customer service!! if your interested theres a whole sub forum here called Reos Mods chk it out i promise you wont be sorry! As for juice i thought i needed tobacco flavored juice as well only to find I like the fruity and sweet flavors more YMMV

Wow, what a great forum. Thanks for such quick advice. I can see that this is going to be one of those things that I will get into and grow with. Being that a lot of this good stuff comes out of USA what are Canadians experience with ordering online from USA. Our is it better to stick to Canadian dealers? Is there any suppliers better at getting things through customs. Is it a problem with Customs or is it one of those things that they seem to be making a big deal about but not really enforcing?

Keep the good advice coming and thanks. The more I read the more interested and confused I become. I guess I am going to just pick a place to start and roll with it.

I would take a look at Canvape.com great prices and customer service, usually 5 day expresspost delivery to the island :)

I always prefer to buy Canadian if I can. And from what I have read I don't want to get Chinese e liquids. I have be working on/around boats and there many chemicals that keep them floating for a long time and don't need any more chemicals through my lungs. This is a huge part of why I am doing this as my smokers hack has gotten really bad and it is time for a change. As ultimately this is to quit smoking anologs for my health and save money.

I just went thru transition myself. I would recommend, if you have the extra cash, getting a pass thru. But make sure it matches the cart/atty size of whatever gear you have. Personally, I found the first couple weeks of transition interesting. There were some things that discouraged me. There were things that kept me on course and excited me. My biggest advice is stick with it for awhile until you have given it a solid chance. I was a 2-3 pack a day smoker.
Tobacco flavors definitely helped the transition period for me. The closer you can keep it to smoking early on the better. One mistake I made was mixing up a bunch of pure PG juice. It works great but the lack of exhale threw me off. Amazing that your brain will and will not pick up on. So I remixed it and doing fine now.
As you establish a new habit, or 'ritual' if you will, you will move out and expand. I am bias, but I love the halo tobacco sampler. I still go back to it here and there. But as time went on, and my taste buds recovered, I started veering towards other flavors. I read on here that as your body recovers, you recognize how bad tobacco really tastes lol. And that is true. For the first month I really needed tobacco flavors. But I eventually made a transition.
My suggestion, for now, keep it as close as possible. Get something that closely resembles a cigarette. Even if you move on to a mod after a couple months. Give your brain a chance to trick itself.
Also, and others might disagree with this, and I dont mind. But for ME PERSONALLY, I put it in my mind that I was not quitting smoking. I told myself I can have a cigarette whenever I want. For that first month, I smoked probably close to a pack throughout the month. But it tapered. First day was like half a pack (while my batteries were charging their initial charge). Then a handful of cigs the first week. Then one cig every couple days. Then a couple puffs one day, and I was like, "i dont want this anymore." So nature just took its course. To this day, I still retain I can have one if I want. I simply dont want.

I really can't agree with getting a starter kit that looks like the real thing.

Rule of Thumb: the more it looks like the real thing, the worse the performance.

At a minimum get a beginner model that has a 650 mAh battery so you won't be changing batteries every hour. 1000+ mAh would be better. I would suggest the ones that are about the size of a slim cigar or sharpie. The E-Power 510 or Kgo are very good beginner models. Here are several well supported sites:

e-Power

Crystal Clear Vaping

KGO 1100 mAh 2 battery kit

Thats an interesting point. I am gonna take that with me. But do you find that using something that is cigarette-ish helps though. What I mean is, even something resembles a cigar or a sharpie is a lot closer to home for a smoker than a mod box. At this time, a mod box seems appealing to me, but when I first started, having something that even vaguely resembled a cigarette really helped. I don't know if I would have gotten this far if I didn't have something that felt like what I was used to. I dunno. I would really like to hear your thoughts on what you have experienced or heard experienced on transitioning in regard to my own experience.
