Amazing followup by Thulium for you Baldr, very informative. It can be overwhelming cause there's so much stuff out there. You are definately on the right track tho. Get your gear and get Vapin' bro!!!! You'll be glad you did. If you can find a brick and mortar tho definately go that way. Face to face will help a lot and they can show you how it all works. I'm lucky to have a great vape shop 5 min from my house!:vapor:

Digging through the North Texas Vapers section, I found that Vaporescence has a brick-n-morter shop in Richardson, not far from me. I think I'll head up there tomorrow, and will probably pick up a kit, some juice, etc from them.

Thanks for all the help. I'm still very confused, but I really appreciate that so many have taken time to help.

And I'll keep watching the thread in case anyone else has advice.

It looks like you've been overwhelmed with info. I think its great that everybody has given you great advice on hardware.

I just want to personally congratulate you on your decision to make the switch. Try not to let all the technical stuff swirl around in your head for too long. You have great advice from all these members already. You just need to get one in your hands now.

With much smoking as you've done in the past, I can see why you are leaning towards a solution that doesn't require to make a mess, but that's part of the learning process. You will make a mess, you'll learn the balance point between a dry atty and a flooded one, and you'll learn just how long it takes you to go through a bottle of X size.

I recommend you try a flavor that comes close to the experience of a cigarette. This will mentally prepare you for getting off of those cigarettes. Low Resistance Atomizers are a must for the feeling of a real cigarette. In time, your taste buds will return, and those tobacco flavors might start to taste gross, its hard to tell because of your smoking history, but it certainly did for me.

The eGo or it's clone variants are a great device for starting out. You simply can't go wrong with it. I'd also recommend that 1000mah USB-rechargeable battery from the vaporcast store. Its the most convenient way to charge a device, and you can still use it while you are charging it (psuedo-passthrough). The last advantage that I see to that USB battery is that you don't have to disassemble the cone and atty every time you need to charge the battery, which means you'll have to wipe down the excess liquid which has leaked out of the atty and into the cone section-Less Mess.

Just think that should you decide to pick up a cigarette, don't worry about it too much. Just think of all the times you DIDN'T smoke because of the e-cig. The goal is to reduce the amount of cigarettes and replace that with your e-cig device.

Good luck with your endeavors. Vaping will become a hobby and as much a part of you as your smoking habit did, only this is much better for you, the people around you, and the E-cigarette industry.

Hi,
Great choice! I think you should buy more e-liquids with your setup, and I'm agree with Dormouse, try some cartomizers instead. Cartridges tends to fail IMHO. Dual coil cartomizers or Boge 2.0ohm LR cartomizers are great match for your ego. Recently some vendor selling Smoketech 1.7 ohm single coil cartomizer which are excellent too. With your current 3 packs a day smoking, I think you'll need at least 2 or 3 fully-filled dual coil cartomizers a day. Just fill it before going to bed, and the next day you are ready to go. You have enough batteries to power it through your day (if they are all fully charged).

If you need to get some cartos from else where try Cartomizers (510 only)

Good price free syringe and shipping.

One of the problems I have is that there are all these different kinds of vaporizers, different systems, different sizes, different batteries, different all sorts of stuff.

And I don't know enough about it to say "Hey, if I order the eGo Mega, I can buy these cartomizers over here and they'll work".

The joye 510 isn't nearly as big as the joye eGo. And the Mega is bigger yet. Same cartomizers for all? I've no idea.

And of course, I'd like to place an order and get everything at once, instead of ordering from several places and having part of it show up, then having to wait for the rest before I can try it out.

It is always better to have a face-to-face, I would definitely recommend that over buying online if it's possible. It is a bit pricey, but you can see if you think vaping would be for you and smoking 2-3 packs a day, it will be cheaper than analogs. They have good solid products.

That's their website. They have brick/mortar stores in Richardson and Denton (Dallas area.) Richardson was convenient for me, and they were very helpful. I have two ego 1000 batteries, chargers, various supplies, cartomizers, atomizers, juice, etc.

So far (less than a day) I certainly like my old analog cigs better. But I can tell that I'm smoking less analogs due to having the PV option. And with more time for the adjustment, I hope the PV gets to feeling more natural.

So far, so good. I appreciate all the help - I expect to be around with more questions. :)

Wanted to mention, while they did have standard kits, what the did with me was to talk about what I wanted, let me try some flavors while they explained how things worked, and then more or less built me a kit.

I wasn't interested in the 650 batteries, so they swapped the 650's for 1000's in my "kit", for instance. They essentially sold me a starter kit that was made to order. And while I expected to pay a little more by going to a real store instead of ordering online, my price out the door was actually a little less than what the first post in this thread would have been if I'd gone that way.

Big props to them. Highly recommend them to anyone in the Dallas area looking to get started.

Hi Baldr,

I'm so glad you found the shop helpful. E-cigs can be so confusing to us newbies!

Now just experiment with your kit and get used to using it. Don't even concentrate on replacing your analogs with it yet. Just think about grabbing the e-cig when you get a craving to have a smoke. I pretty much automatically went from 1.5 PAD to just 4-5 cigs a day in the first week without really trying. I'm into this about a month and I still have 1 or two cigs a day, but I find I enjoy the real cigs less and less. I figure I'll be tossing out the rest of my cigs fairly soon.

My suggestion for your next step is order up a few sample packages of liquid or try some from the store. I have 2-3 tobacco flavors I tend to use for work days. On weekends and evenings at home I switch flavors a lot. I'm a coffee nut...and I have a couple of coffee flavors I like as an after dinner vape. I didn't think I'd like fruity flavors either, but I have a sample from Johnson Creek of some Peach that is a great dessert vape.

This morning I've been vaping some Bobbas Bounty I got from Alien Visions in the mail yesterday. It's a mild tobacco with a sweet chocolate tone and something else I can't quite put my finger on. The flavor is quite intense...almost too much...but I like it. It's kind of like some Tennessee Cured I have from Johnson Creek. I'm thinking of trying them as mixers in some other less intense tobacco flavors I have.

Good luck and make sure to come back and let us know how its going for you. I use this forum as my "support group"! :toast:
