Today I went to my local smoke shop for some juice to drip with since all I have is nicotine and it just burns like none other to drip with, and I notice they started stocking a Little Boy RDA clone, and for 20 bucks I figured I'd try it out. So I get home with this RDA all pumped to try it out, it came pre coiled and wicked, so I put it on my Cloupor dna 30 box, press the fire button just to see where the ohms are reading...and wow .3 ohms, sub ohm with a pre setup, pretty cool! The only problem, the coils stayed lit, and after a second, the wick was melting. So I unthreaded the atty not really sure what was going on, and put my other atty on just to check my mod and make sure it was unaffected, and much to my dismay, after pressing and releasing the fire button, it's still sizzling. So I pull the battery cover, and of course, the wires smell burned. So I go back up to said smoke shop and explain everything, and he simply says, "well I can return the RDA but I really can't do anything about your mod, I can give you a deal on another mod." I explain that I'm broke and not trying to buy another mod, and he sticks to his guns and holds no accountability, but doesn't cease to preach to me about how RDAs and all this "stuff" is dangerous and how it's all over YouTube.

So now, no atty and no device for when I have to send my Vaporshark back in for another battery replacement in the 3 weeks that I've owned it. After two months smoke free, this is the first day where I'm actually being tested by stress to not go out and buy a pack of analogs and just say screw it. Instead I'm locking myself down in my house in front of the TV. Sorry guys and gals, just needed to get some frustration out before I freak out.

Was the vaporshark your first device? Didnt you ever have an ego? What I mean is do you have a backup device?

Anything is better than smoking again... even a cig-a-like

That really sucks... honestly other than juice I have had pretty crappy luck with brick and mortar stores. I dont trust or respect them. I use them to window shop and buy a bottle of juice ( but not always ) to show a little support. I would rather read reviews here and on youtube and buy online.

If I wasnt out in the gulf of mexico I would send you something to vape with, but im out here for another 2 weeks.

Please get a 10 dollar mech mod and atty from fast tech as a back up when you have the ability.

Thanks Dan,

Yeah I had an ego, I gave it to a friend of mine at work to get him off the analogs and cigarillos. I did have a backup, it was the DNA that is now fried, which is where my problem lies lol. I'm calmed down a bit now, but man, if someone won't stand by the products they sell, they should not be running a store, and it just makes me irate.

The main thing that was testing me is the awful luck I've had thus far on my vaping experience. I originally had an MVP with the aspire nautilus and it was great besides the hit or miss coils, and I decided I wanted more power, so I bought the vaporshark, one day out of the box it had a bad battery/evolv chip, so I had to send it back to a replacement battery. I got the cloupor DNA from a member here on a trade and it was great obviously until today. I have an eleaf istick but I lent that to my girlfriend who is in Florida until next week. So, as you can see, I'm just up a creek, and I'm just wondering if the bad luck will eventually stop, or if this whole thing is just a money pit.

I guess it just pisses me off that companies, big or small, have no liability or remorse for the people keeping them in business. This smoke shop, between myself, my friend and my girlfriend have made at least 400 bucks in the past two months, and now that's over, because I'm not going to support a bs place like that. I guess online it is, and that's sad.

Mechanical mods make GREAT backups. Nothing in them to fry, it's a tube, if it gets dirty, clean it. I think I'll forever keep my Stingray around just in case someone steals my Reo and I need something that's good and reliable to replace it with. Some stores in your area may have some mech clones that can get you by as well - could be worth a peek.

"now that's over, because I'm not going to support a bs place like that. I guess online it is, and that's sad."

That sir is why many vape shops fall by the wayside...

Good shops charge way too much, sub par shops sell clones and mid level stuff but employees dont know anything ( Ego on a lanyard ring a bell ), and the cheap little stores that open up and try to make a quick buck on products from 2011.

Yeah, I definitely agree. You know, it's one thing if you're going to sell cheap garbage, but to not do anything when it damages my personal property, that's where it crosses a line. I may not operate a business, but I so understand it. Buy as cheap as possible and sell as expensive as accepted...achieve maximum profit, I get it. But when you start screwing over customers who use your products and are very good customers because they live less than a mile from your shop...that's only screwing yourself over. Oh and I tried getting a cheap mech mod for a backup, got a 4nine clone, the fire button has bad contact to the battery so it barely works lol. This, this is my luck hahaha.

I really feel your pain and frustration. I think most of us have been there at one time or another and will probably be there again.
You remind me of the experience and conversation I had with a fellow vaper just the other day, who is a recent convert. I happened to notice that he was having a little problem with a gurgling evod. He was so frustrated that he wanted to pack it all in. I calmly explained how to 'fix' and suggested that vaping, unfortunately, takes a little bit of work at times, to adjust or fix finicky equipment, to find just the right juices, having to replace a coil at the most inopportune time, running out of supplies, etc. etc.

As others have said, much, MUCH better to have some equipment on hand, however basic, out-of-date or ancient it may be, than to go back to analogs. Buy a couple of cig-a-likes to get you through this. Grab a couple of very inexpensive ego-style batteries to have around just in case.
Once you have a couple of DIFFERENT reliable setups, it's much easier to deal with temporary equipment problems.
Sounds like you give everything you're not using at the moment away, which is fantastic. Why not keep a couple of the basics for yourself in case of unforeseen emergencies? Have some backups!!

I hope you get through this....

Sorry that happened to you. First off, never trust a pre built coil in an RDA. Always tear the build out, wash the atty and rebuild it. Secondly, the cloupor devices have a reputation for going bad. It's not exactly the most reliable chip there is. It may have had nothing to do with the atty and I don't blame the store for not replacing your mod. People would be lined up with their fried Clones and blame the stores attys. Coulda just been coincidence that your Cloupor decided to take a dump at that moment.
Still, it sucks and I'm sorry it happened to you.

Yeah, I can't even imagine trying to vape on a regular basis with just one device. Good lord, I keep 3 going at all times, and backups behind those if I need 'em. Just one anything, in vaping, is NEVER enough, and I'm not even sure that 2 is.

"BackupS for your backup's backup" is the philosophy I practice.

I think the fact that there are burned wires inside the mod at the same time that the atty I was sold nearly caught fire might be a little more than coincidence...

I was using mod about a half hour prior to this, and it was working fine with two different kayfuns, a plume veil clone and an Aspire nautilus mini. I don't expect them to replace every bad box mod someone brings in, but really, to take something out of a box, and have it nearly catch fire, there should be some sort of action for this, even if it is a one time loss. Either way, it doesn't matter, it's fried, i've been rubbed wrong by a shop that doesn't support me after I've supported them and what's done is done.

On a lighter note, when I get paid, I will have backups for backups for backups.

I'm really sorry mate -- I'm sure someone will say something like "Oh, that's why you always test with the multimeter" but frankly many if not all of us often toss it onto a regulated mod to make sure there's no shorts or such. With the way many of these things are made, while it can get ridiculous in terms of costs it only gets as ridiculous as you let it. It could have happened to any of us on the wrong day.

I really hate defending a shop, but I don't see how the vape shop could really be responsible for your mod, as there are simply too many variables and you're flying really close to the sun. The Clouper DNA30s can be off by 0.1-0.2 in their ohm reading, so you could have been trying to do a 0.1 coil (still should have detected a short/NON), and the 4nine is probably the most difficult (and dangerous) mod I've used -- there's something to be said for simplicity and reliability over shiny. If a cheaper chip says it can handle amperage up to X, it should handle amperage up to X, but you're also right at the edge of what it's designed for.

I'm actually really curious about the battery issues you've been having with the vaporshark -- what happened, what'd they say?

While you're struggling along, have you tried cleaning your contacts on the 4nine?

I know this is of no help but the bright side is you at least bought a mod (vs) that can be repaired. It sucks it was messed up from day one but at least they will repair it. With all the mishaps with mods I have made a point of just owning vs and provari. I know if I jack them up they can be fixed. I can't afford to have things burn up and just be thrown away. I have only had one mod that was horrible and it was a zmax. The wife wanted it. Got lucky and they took it back and told her that was exactly why she should have gotten the provari in the first place. Since then no issues and she is happy which means I get to be happy. Lol they should of at least gave you some kind of mod for the problem though. Not have you go with nothing.

Drunken, I didn't build the coil on the atty, it came pre coiled and pre wicked, so I assumed they wouldn't sell something that came along with a trick. "Oh, we've set this up for you, but you can't use it like this, because it'll burn your effing house down." That's not the most brilliant business ploy.

Perhaps that will help with understanding my reasons for thinking they are at least somewhat responsible. I mean, sure it's possible that my mod grew a brain and decided it hated that atty with a passion, but I'm not putting any money on that idea.

As far as the vaporshark goes though, when I first got it, I used it for like a day, and when you woke it up, it would read check battery or weak battery. So I contacted them, and they said it needed to be repaired, they refused to replace it, they said it was only a bad battery. So I complied, mailed it back, just got it back on Friday, and sure enough, last night, it says weak battery again, so I emailed them again and we're still waiting for a response. I figured if I spent 100 dollars on the mod alone I'd be getting something halfway decent, and I know that issues do occur with pretty much everything, but I've only gotten to use this thing for like 5 days and I bought it 3-4 weeks ago.

Selling 0.3ohm ready made coils to retail customers, who may or may not even have YouTube or even a computer. Great idea.

These vape shops, both online and brick n mortar, are propagating like bunnies.

I guess it just pisses me off that companies, big or small, have no liability or remorse

No company is really without liability.....esp. when dealing with consumers. Of course, you have to be willing to actually hold their feet to the fire/do something about it, to find that out.

Mechanical mods make GREAT backups. Nothing in them to fry, it's a tube, if it gets dirty, clean it.

Oh yeah, great combination......storefronts selling subohm coils to people who walk in off the street....using mechanical mods.

Be glad the personal property isn't something attached to your body.

Yeah, be aware I'm not trying to kick you when you're down -- it's a really crappy situation and I am glad it didn't happen to me.

Not minimizing your frustration, but on the plus side, your face is intact and it almost sounds like the wiring/chip could have gone instead of the batteries. :) If there's anything we can do to get what you have in working shape, like the 4nine, we'll do everything we can. Probably best to put it in a different descriptive post to get the most ideas.

And hang in there mate -- this sucks, but it'll pass, and you'll get back on your feet with it. Your health is too go back to stinkies.

I figured if I spent 100 dollars on the mod alone I'd be getting something halfway decent, and I know that issues do occur with pretty much everything, but I've only gotten to use this thing for like 5 days and I bought it 3-4 weeks ago.

Thanks, I and others try to keep an eye on what issues people are having. That really blows, especially if you're paying shipping back and forth. Vaporsharks generally have a good name, but one sloppy tech not testing things right can hurt a name real quick.

To the $$$ thing, an engineer once told me the most reliable appliances are generally the cheapest (but not bottom-barrel) mass-produced ones. The margins are thinner, and they sell a lot of them, so they're tested better as if there is an issue and they start getting returns they go into the red really quick.

I was talking about a backup for him. I never once suggested he used a coil on it which he didn't meter correctly. I never even mentioned him using the 0.3ohm store-monstrosity coil.

I'm also not trying to kick you when you're down, but:

1. Always, always check a build with an ohm meter or DMM, no matter who built it.
2. Know your mods specs. Hanas, both authentic and clone are made to fire 0.5 ohms on up, not 0.3 ohms.
3. Sounds like your fire switch stuck to me. I had that happen with a Hana clone, too. It wasn't the atty, it was the cheap switch on a cheap mod.
4. I don't understand what you mean by "wick melted"... what on earth was this wicked with? Did you prime it with liquid before you fired it? That's very important because cotton easily sets on fire. Rayon gets burned and stinky even if it doesn't burst into flames (though it would not surprise me if it can).

We, as vapers, need to be responsible for ourselves as well. We need to know what mods we own, what they can safely fire, and to follow other safety precautions. We can't expect the shop owner to know what we are going to do with an atty once we leave the shop, nor what we are going to put it on.

I'm glad you're safe and uninjured :). Please take this as a lesson learned, and chalk it up to life experience.

There are some inexpensive mods, but none of the ones I suggest can fire a 0.3 ohm build, but take a look at the istick, mvp20W, ipv mini or Cloupor mini.

OP, I don't want to minimize your loss here, I know how much it sucks when things that you paid good money for and rely on break, but I want to play a little devil's advocate for some of the newbie vapers. I pointed out a similar concept in reply to another post.

The shop has absolutely nothing to do with you not making absolute sure that your equipment could safely fire whatever was in that atty. That was your responsibility. It sucks that the mod died, but either you could have prevented it, or it was a problem with a faulty mod that has nothing to do with the pre-built coil.

The takeaway here should be, know the limits of your devices and don't run them at the edge of their limits, leave a safety margin. Always test a build with an accurate ohm meter regardless of who built it. If you are ever unsure if someone else did things right, redo it yourself and make sure it is right. Take the responsibility for your investment, safety, and health, because no one else will, nor should they be required to.

We know that even if the vapor is completely harmless, we still use some equipment that has the potential to seriously injure us if abused. Chips, batteries, wire, they do not care if we know the dangers or not and are completely unforgiving of our mistakes. It is up to us individually to make sure we don't make these mistakes.
