I totally want to get the word out there about vaping, and most of the time, I don't mind talking to people about it or letting them try it. But sometimes I get tired of people asking about it or every time I pick it up at work, someone is like, "Ooh, can I hit that?" One customer does this to me every time he comes in. You wouldn't go up to a smoker and ask for hits all the time, so I feel like people shouldn't do it with vapers either. Or when non-smokers ask me about it, I feel like I am wasting my time, but then again they may know someone to pass the info on to... I think what makes this so irritating for me, is a) I feel like I sound like a broken record, b) I tend bar in a VERY small, conservative town, so it does attract a lot of attention.... Anyone else just want to vape and be left alone at times? One guy even asked if he switched to vaping, if I could just order his juice for him and he would give me cash, I don't want to be somebody's crutch.

OK, I totally hand-hold my mom, what little she needs, but that's entirely different. :)

Yes, that annoys me as well. When asked if they can hit off it, I tell them I'm a German measles carrier. It also has the advantage of being true in my case, but the disease is fairly minor and won't run rampant through the population as you either have it as a child or get immunized. You may feel free to borrow that. :)

Telling them you think you might have a cold (always true, when do we absolutely know we aren't developing one) would also work.

I think you are doing a great service to the community :). I'm sure it must be a pain at times, but in your profession you get to expose a lot of current/ex smokers to vaping.

I think someone asking you to buy juice for them is over the line though, it's not like it's difficult to order juice online and have it mailed to you. If they are truly interested in vaping it does require some dedication. Otherwise, as soon as one of their pieces of equipment goes down all of a sudden you have become tech support as well.

Keep up the good fight :vapor:

Hmmmm...I'm not a betting man but if I was I'd bet all (or at least most) of the folks that are hassling you are of the male persuasion...? Sounds like someone has a few admirers. :)

Get your self some business cards with a few reputable vendors and pamphlets about about vaping. Then when they hit on you, er...I mean bother you :), just politely hand them a nice little packet of useful info.

And let me just add, I mean no disrespect. You are an attractive woman and you work in a bar. You probably know all too well you are gonna get your share of annoyances. Good luck.

I get what you're saying, but it's new-ish and unusual for a lot of people, plus we could use more voices. I got my brother going and he's asked me to get him his juice at the local B&M where I go and send it to him. So I did, one time for his kit and one time for juice. Next time he's getting told to pick up his credit card and sit at his computer like everybody else!

I can understand your frustration, for sure, but you also have to admit that since it's still a pretty new concept on most folks that you are going to get that. You know, it's new and novel. Hey, my wife is a bartender so half those folks might not remember asking you about it before :)

If your vendors are like mine, you usually get a stack of cards with each order, I'd be handing those out to the folks curious or asking you to order for them. Then, again, perhaps you have a side business opportunity there :D

Again, I can totally see the irritation factor there for sure. I guess, if it were me, I'd just explain as much as I could and direct them to further self research or I'd get busy all of a sudden restocking and cleaning up or what have you :)

I'm usually on my way in the door at work when people ask me questions. I just don't have time to stop and talk for more than a minute or two. So, I just tell them that: Yes, it does work. I smoked for 37 years and never imagined I could actually quit. And, it's been 2 years now with no desire to go back. Then, I hand them an ECF card and walk away.

It's not that I'm unwilling to talk. I just refuse to be late for work. They could always stop me on the way out if they really want to talk, I guess.

But, I'm not a bartender. I don't get as much opportunity to talk to people. So, I would be very happy to talk about it and to help them get started. I do leave them with my attitude of willingness. All they have to do is be willing to talk to me when it won't cost me my job!

That's another thing I wanted to say, but my post was getting rambly and unorganized, lol. I know the majority of the people that ask about it. They fail to understand that it's not as easy as smoking. Our closest vape shop is probably Denver, 4 hours away. It's not like they can go pick up some more juice when they get low. You have to keep up your supply and all of your equipment, you have to keep everything charged, cleaned, etc...

A lot of my neighbors are completely computer illiterate. There are no b&m stores anywhere near so I get lots of questions. I try to explain as much as I can but it does get tiresome.

Same boat! Western, Nebraska... Not the good life. Everyone around here is like 10+ years behind the times. Glad to see I'm not alone though.

Simply saying, No, seems a bit rude for a small town barmaid. I do that and my tips go down and I get a rep for being a snob. In the city that would be no problem, but around here you have to be all polite... It's like freaking Mayberry around here, lol. But if that one guy keeps it up, I may have to just tell him no more, get your own...

Come to think of it, yes, mostly men... And you are totally right, it comes with the job. I guess them asking about vaping is better than the @$$-grabbers! I'll try to keep that in mind.

Well I'm almost 60, and truly value my quiet time. Sadly it seems to only come after 11:00p.m. at home.
That said, I am very happy talking to anyone interested. I love the idea that I have a chance to help someone achieve a healthier life.
I've gotten a dozen new Vapers going in just a few months and would gladly turn a few dozen more.:)

If they convert, great! But the majority of these people are just making conversation and sometimes I just don't have time. A little off topic but... people tend to forget that barmaid do a lot more than make drinks. There is a lot of restocking and dishes and cleaning, etc... I think the cards and pamphlets are the way to go for people that are interested. And that way I wouldn't be wasting my time, if they are really interested in vaping, they can do some research on their own. On the slower nights, I don't mind talking about it, but on the busier nights I like to use my spare time to vape...

I'd keep a couple of 808's in a mug to hand out. I'd also put some of these out to increase my income.
