i had a huge problem with kanger coils when i first started vaping, now when i get a kanger coil i pull it apart and pull the silica wick out of them and replace it with cotton, it helps with flavor and every few days i just swap for some new cotton. ive been using the same 10 coils for me and my girlfriend for about three months now.

I'm with Bear...I have used the same coils for almost two years! Of course, I have rebuilt them dozens of times each and using my own wire and braided cotton wicking material, I have had no problems. The wicks gunk up and taste burned after 5-10 tanks, but I have never had a coil break or burn out.

make sure you do not dry burn the coil with the cotton in the coil, sorry forgot to mention that. just dry burn the coil until the gunk is burnt off and is glowing from the middle out. make sure you saturate the cotton really well and still let the coil head sit in the juice for a few mins before trying it. it takes a few times to figure out how much cotton to use. i will try and find the step by step guide someone sent me for when i first started using cotton.

Ok...I tried the cotton thing, dry burned a new coil, cleaned a used coil. I even used another juice which I know is good, but still have this burnt maple syrup taste. I'm thinking I have some defective coils.

Thoughts...I'm a newb.

With a new head or a fresh rewick start vaping at a lower voltage/wattage setting in the beginning and work it up bit by bit over time. Works for me, maybe you too.

Cheers

I have been using only kanger tanks for several months...the mini and protanks, all with adjustable airflow. I too would always burn the wicks if I a 1.8-2.0 ohm head over 3.4 volts, though had better luck with a standard ego battery at a little higher voltages. Like others have said, I'm just getting into rebuilding these heads for a reliable vape.

Having no particular issues with mine, especially not the enclosed-wick ones which surprised me quite a bit. I haven't rebuilt the old-style coils yet, but I do make sure to clean them well regularly. If the coils are fairly new I just take 'em apart and rinse each part in the sink, but when more thorough cleaning is needed I do it like this:

I take the chimney and cap off and rinse each part well with lukewarm water, then I let the parts soak for a day in an alcohol solution. I take them out, rinse them with water again and finally dry burn the coils with short pulses while simultaneously blowing on the coil until they are clean of residue and glow evenly.

And that's that. Put the chimney and the cap back on, pop them back in the tank and continue to chain-vape relentlessly. Of course, the newer coils can't be taken apart that easily so I don't disassemble them and basically dry burn on feeling alone, making sure to not overdo it.

I do wonder if I can actually skip the alcohol bath and go straight to rinsing and dry burning.

I only dryburn, let cool, then rinse and dry off. Dryburn again 'till there is no vapour/ smoke coming off the coil.
No soaking. Quick and dirty, errr clean. Each to their own.

I have mainly used Kanger Pro tank 2, 3 and T3s. I really like the T3S tanks not only do they hold 3 mls of juice but they heads are the same as the pro tank 2,3, and evo's. They are very easy to clean and rebuild if needed. If you do rebuild them make sure you prime them before you try and burn them, if you used cotton to wick them. To prime them, all you do is take some dry puffs on them to insure the juice is getting to the wicks before you put the heat to it.

Enjoy vaping and tell others.

Thanks to all that replied. I took your advice and rebuilt my first coil head today. It wasn't pretty, but it worked. Then I discovered the other issue I was having. I was using the same juice for about a month now and had vaper's tongue. So I bought a new flavor today and can actually taste it.

I recently ran into issues of burned flavor with my mini protank 2. Yesterday I noticed my vapor was decreasing and the flavor started to taste a bit burned. I tried to clean and dry burn the coil, but it only made things worse. I figured that the coil was in use for about 3 weeks, so it was time for a new one. Placed a new one in and within a day I started to get a burned taste again. I took it apart and it was just nasty. I cleaned it all up (the wicks were stick together) and removed one of the flavor wicks. It seems to be all better now. Only time will tell.

So, the question is .... how can one Kanger coil work great for weeks, but the next one needs a flavor wick removed to work right? It there a QC issue at kanger?

Yes, it's all mass production after all. Personally I haven't had any bad performing Kanger coils yet, but I've read plenty of post with people who do have fluctuating quality issues and the advice is always the same: Learn to rebuild them, it's fairly easy.
