Not sure how recently they started putting these on there - I've seen some videos where they had a holographic sticker instead (don't know whether those were legit or not lol!) - from Kanger's website:

Sounds like there's probably as many fakes out there as real ones :D

Also, this place is always really busy, unless they ordered the protank 2's by the thousands, they'd have ran out by now.

Well they only gave me a 30 day warranty on mine, so....

I have noticed that every stock protank 2 head I have received produce dry hits, even after priming it by drawing a few times before firing it. Now what I do is remove all but one of the small flavor wicks (located on top of the coil) and I haven't had a problem since.
I fill the tank as much as I can and I only get gurgling when the tank is almost empty. After looking at the pic of the box for your tank I agree that it is probably a knock off. All of my 5 protank2 and protank2 mini's have come in a black and red slide out box sealed with a hologram sticker and have the r on them.
I have had great success with the protanks. In one of them I use a clear menthol-absinthe DIY 50pg/50vg liquid and haven't changed the head in almost 2 months. It's still running like a champ.
Note: They are all 1.8 ohm heads. I use them at 3.7 volts on my spinners and 7.5 watts on my mods.

Hope that helps.

Dry hits are usually caused by thicker liquids - for a 70/30 PG/VG mix you shouldn't need to remove any wicks (in fact, since the wicks are there to keep the atty from flooding, removing them could cause gurgling/flooding) - always best to try a head with the wicks in first then remove one or both if necessary.

Gurgling is generally caused by the airflow being restricted and the user sucking too hard on the ProTank - the ProTank draw is very light and if you're having to suck hard on it it's because the airflow is blocked. This is commonly caused by screwing the ProTank down too hard - it compresses the rubber/silicone grommet on the head and blocks off the air channels - unscrewing the ProTank a little should remedy this (I have it only just touching on my MVP and have the beauty ring screwed up to hold the tank in place).

It is really difficult to tell the difference, as there are different versions like you say. :(
I chose to trust my vendor, a local guy. I have no problem with clones as long as they function correctly, but I do have a problem with lying vendors! ;)
I've seen complaints about the Kanger Protank II elsewhere as well, but I have not yet experienced any faults with mine, and I still recommend them to new vapers,
as they are sturdy, good looking, easy to clean and not to forget safe to vape anything in :)

The 3 I have had the holographic sticker/seal on the box underneath the cellophane wrapping of course.

HAPPY VAPING!

If you are still under warranty, then please take it back to the vendor. You don't have to say you don't think its real or not, just tell them how much trouble you are having and have them help you. They may well offer a replacement. Also, take the coils with you.
It can't hurt, but if you go charging in demanding anything, it won't get you very far. The majority of vapers are willing to be more than helpful and I would think if this business wants return customers, they would be willing to help you out.

Let us know what you decide.
Good luck

:)

edit. And just look at what they have to offer. It may well be you do need a more powerful battery to be able to use these. Looking does not mean buying cause you can always find it cheaper online. And if you bought your ejuice from them, ask about pg/vg content.

If you have a warranty take it back. Given all the problems you have with that one, ask them to help you get the replacement up and running before you leave the counter. Be sure to take your battery in with you so they can help you determine if it's a compatibility problem.

Don't walk in with a chip on your shoulder, keep it in your pocket until you see how willing they are to help. If the counter person can't do anything ask for the manager or the owner.

If they can't provide proper customer service at the price they are charging, they do not deserve your hard earned money.

The 4 atomizers on the right all taste burnt, i grabbed a new one out, stuck it in the protank, filled it up, and flipped it over to let the wick soak so when i try it again i might get better results, the atomizers are 2.4 ohms +- .2 ohms

Looking at your pic here, I can tell you that the coils you have are not Kangar coils. They're not clones either. Your box looks just like my Smok Aro coils box and those coils will NOT work in any Kangar product. You definitely need to get some proper Kangar coils and see if that works.

Agree with a couple previous posts - whether your tank is a clone or not, the COILS look like the wrong ones!
I use Protanks all the time, without any trouble.
Just a couple comments having read the thread kinda quick:
1 - I don't flip the silicone gasket, haven't found that does anything, really
2 - I fill it all the way
3 - I DO usually pop off the airtube and remove ONE flavor wick - it lets more juice in, so I can vape harder/longer without any "dry hits"
4 - get the right coils, and give it one more chance maybe?

I personally, with a lot of testing (over 25 different juice delivery products), came to the conclusion that I was sensitive to the wire that Kanger uses.

I tried removing the flavor wicks, flipping the gaskets, using both the thinnest and thickest juices on the market (with direct confirmation from vendor testing, general public opinion, and various viscosity tests, tested by dripping each juice onto free hand silica to measure the speed of absorption before vaping - as well as priming the Kanger wicks before vaping) also, testing using airflow controllers, various trip tips, and various tank fill amounts.

Nothing would prevent a "metallic/extremely harsh/somewhat smokey" hit. I believe this type of flavor is sourced from material on the wiring itself, and that either the contaminants can variate between builds, or that some people are sensitive to the particular alloys - for me, I don't seem sensitive in the least to certain types of NiChrome, though it could still have depended on the particular vendor's willingness to torch/clean their own NiChrome.

However, I recently tried the Kanger Evods, which seem to wick better than the Protank II, at any rate, I could taste more of the juices being used than I could in the Protank. Yet, despite that, there were still metallic and smokey layers - even to juices like cheesecake, mint, and blueberry. All samples provided by a vendor, who was also an expert RDA builder, who filled them himself.

The same vendor told me personally that his particular taste buds also taste a concerning taste on most any device but his RDA's, and trying his build, I agreed perfectly - despite the Evod's being "okay", the difference from them and a clean mod was night and day. No metal tastes. No smokiness. I didn't have to tilt his mod or do twenty manipulations just to get a good flavor out of his. That same concept should apply to every device being marketed as easy to fill and easy to vape.

And, I believe, to people who aren't sensitive to these devices, that the devices tend to taste wonderful. There are plenty on this forum who describe these tanks as though they were RDA's in terms of flavor, and yet everyone is taking out flavor wicks equally and not getting the same result, and some aren't ever fixing the issue. I was stuck in the "it's the company's fault" mindset for the longest time, but with applying some discoveries on my end, I now think that a coil sensitivity may be more widespread than some of us may think.

If you do think you have a sensitivity, do not fret - plenty of vendors wrap their own coils using various types of Kanthal and NiChrome, some torching and firing the wire before selling it to ensure maximum performance and taste. These pre-wrapped coils attach to a an RDA almost easier than installing a Protank head, and the only extra steps required for a bit of safety is using an ohm checker (as one really should on any head or clearo device.) They also can be cleaned tremendously easier than replaceble heads.

There are a lot of easy alternatives in today's vaping world, and my big advice is to not keep spending money on items that simply don't work for you. If one doesn't work for you, chances are, another device, wrapped with the same wire and using generally the same wicking mechanics, will not work for you either. There's very little difference, in terms of physics, from Evods, Protanks, CE4's, iClears, virtually anything else. The only difference is you vape CE4's generally upside down, where you vape bottom-fed tanks pointing down. Both should work equally as well given that technique.

The best thing I ever did was to buy an rba. The Russian 91% and taifun get are great every time. Wrapping coils is easy with a tiny amount of practice.

This is my next step. I have kanthal on the way so I can rebuild my Kanger heads and am in the middle of researching mods, batteries and RBAs. Soon.

I'm having similar problems as the OP out of my Protank II on my VX3-X6 mod. I checked the box mine came in and it is a red slider case with the hologram, so Im guessing mine is the real deal? I've tried a 1.8 and a 2.5 ohm coil in it and can't get the flavor to come out anywhere near as good as it comes out of my protank mini on my ego battery.
