Remember that more isn't always better with the wicking. I'm having good success using the Japanese cotton and pulling the "skin" off both sides, then getting just enough cotton so it will pull through the coil back and forth without clumping. Sometimes I'll pull the cotton just a bit to stretch and thin it when its a lil fat.
Also, don't follow this VTC job. He didn't even pre-roll the cotton, just twisted one end and pulled it through flat. after skinning, i'll roll the cotton on my pant lag to start a round shape, then twist the end for inserting into the coil.
I'm getting a better vape via the RBA, but yes it depends on both the coil and the wick. The never ending quest for the best possible vape!
BTW - I'm starting a home for forgotten and abandoned mini rbas!

Here is the photo ... I tried the pancake wicking method and it did not work even though i had it right on the floor of the table, the flavor wasn't great and then i got dry burns. I had it very full and tight inside the coil. I had it soaked too.

What does ID stand for guys???
It looks like the right thickness, but after modeling after RTs... the ends need to all touch as much as possible with the floor. Think a broom on the floor here. You don't want so much u have to tuck or bend. Flow is the word.
ID= Inside Diameter... changing the diameter of the coil changes its resistance just like the # of winds.

@Joey Blue, How are those 1.2ohm heads vaping? I'm planing on picking up a box myself but I've only used the .5 heads so far...Whats your opinion on the differences between the two? Thx

id= inside diameter, your coil looks too small, I had similar issues when I tried a 2mm coil..
try 2.5 - 3.0mm id on your coil, cut a cotton strip about 5mm wide and pull it though chunky and trim it off about 20mm in length or almost as wide as the tank, tuck dry to the lower deck and cap it off, prime, fill and vape
hopefullyI may be off with the length of my wicking, still playing around with it..

anyone have an idea of what other base could be used to test/build the RBA and OCC? or where to find a spare Subtank base?
Can someone tell me how this RBA compares to the Lemo? I just got a subtank Nano and I am absolutely loving it. Prob the best tank I've tried right out of the box. I got the nano because it would look good on my Ego One and because of the small size, but I really wish it had the option for the RBA base like the mini. But since the nano is so good, I thought about getting another Mini anyways since I can use the coils if I don't have a good build or don't feel like building. Thing is, I'm kinda bad at rebuilding, can never get the wicking perfect for some reason.
to get the 2nd rba i just decided to buy another mini, that way i can switch between my 2 different coil builds on the fly w/out the bother of swapping out the rba's
not quite my plan, but I can see how that works!
I want a base just for the rebuilding, a base that did not come from or belongs with any of my 3 Minis.
like, can I get one of these:
Kanger Mega Airflow Control Valve V2 - Airflow Controllers, Parts - Accessories
and be able to screw the RBA or OCC into it to test ohms, test fires, etc..
The RBA itself will thread into a 510 connection, if you have an old mod it could work, I use the brass end cap from a segelei tube mod to build sometimes..
i was close to buying a lemo as i heard they were great but hated how the air adjustment is made and the refill w/removing the screw and on top of that u need to remove the base first b4 u can do any of those things, too much work for me to bother with, imho.
hopefully they will redesign it

David, I am very sensitive to a hot vape and i found the 0.5 heads way too hot for me. I thought that the 1.2 ohm coil would be a bit cooler and could vape at a lower wattage. It doesn't require as much wattage. I don't know if this helps. They do produce good vapor and some nice flavor.

Kanger replied to my inquiry and stated they will be available in 2-3 weeks and to watch for an announcement on their website.

Joey - that sensitivity to warm vapes, makes you a perfect candidate for using the RBA and building a .8 - 1.2 ish coil.
Heres a good video on wicking using Japanese cotton. Proof that it doesn't take a huge amount!

You bring up a good point G. More wick more flavor I think. But there comes a point of diminishing return. Reduced air's one. Thinkin' what the device needs is a good way to get to what we need. It's a balance of dimension and flow (electrical, air and juice).
Often spoken with super_X about the term microcoil which folks just use generically to mean a small coil. That we keep in mind what it's supposed to do. And he's really emphasized that in his videos. What it looks like, not so much. You're probably thinking macro here. But really the whole intent from the jump wasn't just to make small coils, small wicks. Tho it did go a bit nuts there for a while with the nano. The goal for the contact coil was performance with all the vaporization bennies it brings internally by focusing the heating area, compressing wick for flow and especially with strain letting us tighten up that symmetry.
The more we think about what the device needs I believe, the better our results. A microcoil really is about function.
