So all in all the coil doesnt look over wicked ? I will try to cut it next time on an angle but still its harsh now. I mean I will keep trying if it will break in in few minutes and mls of juice but I am not sure. Should I use less cotton the next time ?

Maybe a little over wicked for contact coil. They don't require quite as heavy wicking as spaced. More wick=flooding=harsh hot vape.....turn up the power!!!!

Remko....imo too much cotton.

Too tight in the coil which will choke it and give you a harsh/burnt hit. I know everyone keeps saying more cotton but there is a limit and I believe you've found it. lol

I re-wicked it now, how it looks now in terms of cotton ? It's de-skinned KGD. Build 0.8 ohm | 6 wraps of 0.40 mm kanthal | on 2.5 mm drill bit.
How it should be now ? ... please let me know ...

EDIT: It's still harsh as I can see .. should I once again give it 3-5 mls of juice to see if it will break in ?

Now that looks really good rem. As I've said, if it's harsh it's flooding....turn up the power until it starts to go burny, then back off a little. As it breaks in less and less power will be needed to stop flooding. After a while it will stabilize....probably around 25-30w on the 2-hole afc setting.

Thanks a lot for your comment. Also, how's the symmetry ?

So, I should give it time now and vape it for a bit at higher wattage like 25-30 watts until it breaks in and gets more stable after 3-4 ml of juice ??

As I've tested it now at 20 watts up to 26 watts and its harsh really.

Can't wait till you wind your own vin, cooler vape. You've got the wicking down to an art so it's the next logical step.....huh?

yup, but i dont want to take off the coils yet unless i really have to, both (stock 0.5 & diy spaced single 26awg 1.3ohm) they've been running for over a month now and still going strong, i just clean burn coils, rewick and good to go

One more time. Turn up the power until it goes burny then back off a few watts. Haven't heard you say it's been burny yet. Symmetry looks pretty good. A small gap or two between the turns is normal for just starting out. My first attempts looked much worse back in the protank days..

Ps. Not double replying on here and to pm's remko. Let's keep it here so everyone can benefit. Ok?

If you're still having wicking problems, try giving this guy's method a try:

I'd be interested to see a pic of your vertical coil build. :)

Just finished wrapping a vertical coil, been wanting to try it out on this thing but thought it may be difficult, it wasn't too bad, now I just need to figure out how to wick it good...
I think the pics turned out all right I'll down size them if they're too big :\
Coil specs - 3x 30awg twisted good, attempted tension wrap with a 2.8mm id, 6 wraps at 1.0 ohm.

Nice piece of work G and good oxidation. Let us know how she vapes for sure.

:)

G'luck.

Is it possible to remove airflow ring, to get better airflow?

As in gone? Using the slot, 2 hole, and 1 hole all at once??? I don't think you can take it off!

Are you using the OCC or RBA?

It unscrews. But there's a little spring that disappears into a black hole if you do, I understand.

What's it getcha?

G'luck.

got it wicked, I went with a 1/4" strip of cotton, seperated it to half thickness, rolled the end to a nice point and carefully pulled it through the side of the coil, ended up wrapping around 3 times, made it fluffy but tight..

It's vaping, flavor is nice, vapor is thick, will see if it breaks in or craps out soon enough..
