Been vaping for about 3 years . . . all you read on this board is that RBAs and RDAs are the bomb -- the KAYFUN IS GREAT GET ONE -- yada yada yada yada . . .
For the 5th or 6th time now, ive been UNSUCCESSFULLY trying to build coils for this useless piece of equipment that I have had for over a year now. No matter the gauge, the wires come lose from the screws . . . resistance fluctuates . . . followed ALL tutorials recommended on here BOTH VIDEOS and ILLUSTRATED TO THE "T". . .

I finally threw the thing across the room . . . I'm done . . . either there is something "elite" vapers don't want you to know or they want you to fail . ..

If you guys thinks its "so easy," you come pick up the pieces of this useless expensive garbage and its yours . . .

I M P O S S I B L E! ! ! !

Sorry to hear of your troubles, but if you want to see frustration, you should have been at my house when I was trying to build my very first Genesis atomizer, lol.

Yes, it can be frustrating, but I'm wondering if you just have a combination of poor beginner's luck and a wonky Kayfun?

You never mentioned where you picked up your Kayfun?

Is it an authentic Kayfun or a clone? I can understand the screw issue on a clone, but I love the authentic KFL+. It was my first rebuildable and I built a coil and vaped that bad boy for a 2 weeks straight. I freaking love my Kayfun. The quality is amazing, if its authentic.

Sorry you have had trouble. The quality of the clone may be your problem. My authentic is far easier to tighten down than any of my clones, that's one reason for the higher price. I would suggest getting a set of authentic screws and see if that helps (usually the decks are tapped okay but the clone screws are crappy)

The only weird thing that happens to me - and so far only to me - is when I refill it I get all kinds of dry hits. I think I have just the KFL? So the thing is empty or almost empty and I fill it like I'm supposed to - I unscrew the little screw on the bottom, I fill it up (same juice) and then I put the screw back in and BAM dry hit after dry hit.

I have to take it all apart and start over. This makes no sense seeing as it works perfectly with the 1st fill. So I have learned when the tank is empty to basically take off the top cap and put it back on then fill it and this doesn't happen -- I don't get it???

View attachment 365605,View attachment 365601 From my experience teaching friends to build coils on Kayfun's, the center pin is where they have the most troubles. On my Hcigar Kayfun 3.1 the center pin for air intake is below the deck, on many clones it is above.... Because this pin is so high in some Kayfun's, you need to use a screwdriver to bend the legs of the coil while your lifting the coil, otherwise they are so close they arch when wet and cause fluctuating readings, even if the screws are tight.
First. That is a great photo.
Second as the photo shows there has to be space under the coil and the center post. If you cause the coil to touch the center post when you put your wick through the coil resistance will change. If you get carried a way pushing the wick down after you put the chimmeny on you can move the coil and change resistance. When metal heats and cools it expands and contracts. Differant metals expand and contract at differant rates. You have the coil wire and then stainless steel post heating and cooling. Yes I know the screws and post don't glow like the coil, but they do pick up heat. All of this can cause screws to loosen and make poor contact with the wire. This is especially true if the wire is under the wrong side of the screw head when it is tightened. You always want the wire under the side of the screw head so that when you tighten the screw it trys to pull the wire under it not push it out as mentioned in another post.
One of the early things an electricans looks for when troubleshooting is everything tight.

ahh, to funny, Have the full Russian for almost a year now, my first rba, and it remains a top performer, have an 0.4 ohm build on it pushed at 6 volts, pretty fine.:D

On the 3.1 Kayfun, have you tried using the coil mount holes on the post blocks?? much easier than trapping under screw heads. Reason I prefer the 3.1 version over the light or 91%.

Yeah, sometimes get one I can't figure out right off. Condolences that this is one such rba to you. Best advice I can give is don't buy another and build ones that work for you.

Vape long and Prosper.!!!!

Oh, if you were within 50 miles, I'd be on my way, for sure. Heck would even bring a coil, wick and juice and set it up to vape. If then you didn't like it, would gladly take it off your hands.

Truth be told, that's the way I've been filling mine from day 1. No problems yet!

When I first started doing coils in my kayfun lite plus clones, I found those screws maddening. Then I got a vise, and now I put the base in the grips of the vise to hold it immobile while I mount the coil, and it's much easier; no more skittering away from me, or needing 5 hands. I do need to wear the magnifying visor I got at Harbor Freight, though, just to see the tiny lil things, and be able to tell that the wire is actually firmly secured.

For me the only "secrets" were being able to keep the base immobile, and being able to see it clearly. The wicking is actually far more challenging, trying to always get the "right" amount.

Sorry for the slight derail here, but I NEED ONE OF THOSE. I love building coils, but my eyes hate it.

Other than my own fear and resistance, that was my major stumbling block, my extremely poor up-close vision -- I got some 3.25 reading glasses, but it's still not enough for something that small, that close up. Those visors at Harbor Freight aren't expensive at all, I think about $4.99 or something. They do need batteries (AAA) if you want to use the side-mounted lights, but I often don't use those.

They also have the "Helping Hands" magnifier, and that's very helpful for something you just want to look at quickly; the alligator-clips aren't strong enough to hold anything you need to use any force on, but the big magnifier with the smaller ultra-magnifier in it are perfect for those quick "what the hell is this thing doing?" needs. :D

It sounds like you over filled it.

Leave a little more air space in the tank or if it is already too full cover the air hole with your finger and give it a short sharp puff to get the juice flowing again.

Thanks, I found them on their site. I'll have to see if they have them in-store (there's one about 2 miles from me). If not, I'll order it. The price is great, I'm glad they work well. Thanks for letting me know. I'll order on line if they don't have one in store, would be funny to pay more for shipping than the piece itself costs. LOL

Not sure if you were agreeing with me or assuming I was talking about a clone, but I was saying the same thing. I don't have a clone, I have an authentic.

I have an authentic KFL+ and a "Black Edition" clone from Custom Mod Creations. The screws on the authentic are flat on the bottom, whereas the clone's are rounded, making it much harder to build. When tightening the screw the wire pops out. Maddening. What I ended up doing is wrapping the wire around the screws twice. It works just fine for me.
