So I've been using the kayfun for awhile now, mainly 28 gauge 2mm ID 10 wraps. Comes out to 1.6 and I'm using either cotton balls or Japanese pads, usually at 10 watts on my vaporshark. My issue is that is seems no matter what juice i put in it after 1.5 days or 6-8mls the coil is completely gunked up. The wick is 100% fine and vapor is ok it just seems that the taste goes south after 6mls.... Is that normal? I know most people change every day or two but is it because of the gunk on the coil? So my question is is it normal for the coil to gunk up after such short usuage?

I seem to have this problem too. The first tank is always awesome but usually about halfway thru the 2nd or 3rd tank the flavor starts to go off. My coils are between 1.3-1.5 ohms vaping at about 10-12 watts. I also have this problem with several different juices...all 50/50. I envy these folks who say they get 5 or more tank-fulls before re-wicking.

I'm working on my 4th tank on a 1.4ohm coil. The flavor started to go away on the third, but I was lazy and filled it anyway.

I think dryburning and rewicking after 2 tanks is ideal.

As another said, the liquid you're using has a lot to do with the coils gunking. Caramel flavoring and its sweetener seem to do gunk them up quickly for me.

I re-wick and dry burn the coil every two or three days. That's about normal. The coil itself will last a month or more, until it pops or you damage it while adjusting and re-wicking.

Juices will accelerate the problem if they are dark or sugary. High wattage will lessen the life of a wick and require more dry burning. For the longest wick life, choose juices that are clear or just slightly cloudy.

If you get tired of having to change the wick so often, you can always use silica rope instead. Silica rope will withstand half a dozen dry burns before it loses its wicking efficiency. Silica tends to harden with the high heat of repeated dry burning.

try a different juice or just dry burn between tanks

a lot of the "gunk" you are referring to comes down to the particular sweetener a juice maker uses. could also be the VG/PG ratio

How so on the vg ratio? Does higher vg add to more gunking? Thanks

Mine does that too with dark juices. Any tobacco, chocolate, coffee type liquid and it tastes funny by the end of the 2nd tank. Doesn't bother me too much because it only takes a minute or two to rewick but if it's a problem you could try using clear, fruit flavors instead, mine lasts longer with those than the darker ones.
