I been DIY'ing a LOT lately, too much fun. I like to soak all my tanks, coils, bottles, needles, syringes, etc, in hot, hot, water overnight and sometimes even for a day or two. The only problem I have is with the syringes losing the inked on marks. The ink comes off the syringes in a short time, and even with tape covering the ink the tape usually comes off after just a few soakings. Worse, liquid finds its way behind the tape and it becomes a mess handling them, or the marks come off when you change the tape.

If you find that the inked graduations printed on your syringes don't last too long, and that taping them sucks, just get some Minwax Wipe-on-Poly and poly over the graduation ink with a q-tip. I had some poly in my cabinet and never even thought about using it for this. Give it 2 coats, the wipe on stuff is very thin, and let it dry for a couple days. It lasts and lasts and lasts. It hasn't cracked or peeled off or anything. I tried nail polish and it cracked off being a bit too hard. The poly is somewhat flexible.

Not trying to hijack this thread but its about syringes so i figured i would ask... Does anyone use glass syringes? I dont hear much on them but they have the measurements engraved into them and seems like a better way to go. I know that i have had more than 5 plungers seize up on me as well as the markings rubbing off and I have only started DIY for 4 weeks or so... Is the glass route a pita?

Yes, but they dont have a nice seal like the rubber tips do. You have to wet the plunger, they rely on the liquid to seal. They will not suck up heavy vg very well. Other than that, the grads dont come off. The plastic 1ml plungers will fit in mine but they are tight and need to be wetted to slide well.

I have been reading through the DIY section because I am studying making my own juices. Why is it that nobody seems to be using actual lab glassware? It would seem to me that a graduated pipette would be perfect for DIY measurements.

I think it's because most of us are sitting at a table instead of standing. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/diy-e-liquid/51431-glass-pipettes-perception-size.html#post770623 They are great, but they tend to be quite long, then add the pump and having your hand always over your head makes for a tiring mix session.

I've used clear nail polish in the past and I haven't experienced any peeling or chipping either.

I would also suggest using a UV sanitizer if you are going to use your disposables over and over again. They will completely sanitizer all of your tools with non-porous surfaces and will not cause any markings or ink to come off. They can be purchased from places like Amazon or Ebay for about $100.

I didn't actually think of that. I do have a lot of experience with using lab equipment, just seemed like it was the way to go. However now that I have looked for some online it seems like most places sell them only in packages of more than one. And the price of a package defeats the purpose because you can go through a lot of plastic syringes for the price of glass pipettes.
