I always use just the regular generic cotton in my builds and though I always thought the taste was slightly off. So recently i decided to try out some good wick material and heard very good things about Kendo.
So I have wicked a couple times with it and I'm not having the best success. I first tried with a thicker/tighter wick. Not so tight that it moves the coils when pulling but fairly tight. Seemed ok but flavor was slightly muted. When I pulled the wick out it was brownish under the coil.
So then I wicked a smallish less thick piece and flavor was better but getting some burnt taste here and there which leads me to believe there might be some air gaps.
I will attempt another soon but I wonder; for those that use Kendo, in your experience do you prefer super tight or what? I have seen some making it way thicker than what I'm used to doing and they claim good results.
I'm used to working with flat sheets of cotton but this Kendo comes in strips. So far I have been splitting the strips but I wonder if anyone out there doesn't strip the cotton and uses it as is without thinning it out via cutting or what have you?
