That's exactly what I'm going to do! I had to uninstall the first one I downloaded earlier, then just a bit ago i installed it again...and that's as far as i got! Did NOT understand how to get add-ons!!!!:grr:

But..earlier i'd posted one that I thought would be good cuz it had five stars, bur someone posted the fact that it only had one review:(

This has become very difficult n complicated for me!
I think they all can be even the SS when you start. Thats why it is so good to have the support available. You don't have to add any addons all the good ones are there probably about 25 a few of those work in the background such as URL resolvers and such. Watch these 2 videos they are only on the SS1 but will give you an idea of how this particular box works.

All thosw shows i already have on my Smart tv! And Netflix and Amazon. Maybe i don't even need one of those boxes, just a good antennae.

I'm asking for help...and I need to keep it simple! Else i won't grasp anything:( I've spent a lot of time and way too much brain effort for days now and still don't grasp any of this.
So here's my questions ...

Do I need some sort of antennae? If so, it'd have to be an indoor one in my case.
Which Kodi box is very good but also not the most expensive?
What else do I need?
( besides a better brain)
I have a Roku , should i also connect that to my "Smart " tv?

I'd SO appreciate any and all input!!!!

This?

https://www.amazon.com/ClearStream-...=1486576851&sr=1-75&keywords=indoor+antennaes

And this?

https://www.amazon.com/OHITEC-Andro...77311&sr=1-75-spons&keywords=Kodi+boxes&psc=1

dear Kay,

i can't freakin sleep tonight so, i thought i'd toss out sumpin..

i use the best "Amazon Basics" indoor-only antennae i could find. it supposedly goes 75 miles and worked fine in my old apartment. my condo is about 10 or so miles north of my old apartment (and away from the transmitters) and i lost PBS and ABC. so i guess if you are 75 miles or less from the tv transmitter cluster a cheap antennae will prolly work fine for local channels. (and i know of NO indoor-only antennae rated for +75 miles).

So... an indoor antennae will get you most if not all local stuff. Hell, if you like to watch local news, even one channel is ok. I ONLY watch live football games and occasional local news programs via my antennae. The rest i watch with kodi.

The under-$50 kodi boxes i and others have posted here and elsewhere should suit you fine for all the rest. i overspent for mine, but if i buy another one for the bedroom, it'll be well under fifty bucks.

kodi is a piece of cake (mostly) to deal with. just buy a box that someone on the threads has recommended, and lean on them, if you have trouble. ez-pezy

some may recommend that you simply install it on your PC. i would not.

you need a remote for it if you want to use a "normal Keyboard" instead of the text thing this remote has.
This one has batteries that have lasted more than a month for me so far...

Somehow I wound up with all kinds of Google stuff on my screen this morning, couldn't get in the Hangout...and never did get the Kodi installed correctly:facepalm: and this morning I had to try to get rid of all the crap... somehow I managed to get in the hangout tho...

You've tried to deal with me before where pc's are concerned....ain't I a mess?!

Another thing I have noticed is if you pause a stream for very long like 15min+ a lot of times my stream will lock up after a few minutes after restarting...

My Fire TV Sticks, just goes back to the movie/TV show menu. I re-select and the resume option is available.

This newest download of Kodi also includes Exodus, Phoenix (similar to Exodus) and SportsDevil along with several other apps. I want to explore SportsDevil, also.

I've yet to try Kodi 17; maybe tonight.

BTW, great vid ya posted!

Heck, sitting here typing about it go me excited. I'm gonna dive in. I'll let you know how it goes.

ETA: Oh, any tips from someone already using it on Fire Stick? Anything I need to be aware of before doing it?

- Grab the 'Download' & 'ES Explorer' android apps first, makes life easier (check YT vids)
- Once Kodi is originally loaded, give the program time to fully load/update all enabled add-ons (10-15 mins, as Pat suggested)
- Enable auto-updates for all applicable add-ons
- Enable auto cache/packages/thumbnail purging

BTW, for ya'll dat have smart phones, ya can use 'em as a remote/keyboard. Check out 'Amazon fire TV' and 'Yatse' apps! Also search YT on how to load 'Google Play Store' onto your Fire Stick (sum kick azz non-Amazon apps).

Those should get ya goin'. I'm sure I fergot sumpin'... we'll see (or not).

LOL

no way in hell would i ever do that

"i'ma gonna buy a pre-hacked device and pray i don't get hacked myself"

YUP

Yepper, I jail broke my own FTVSs, plus I use a VPN.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL!

I have installed it on my PC, as that is the only place I intend to use it, if I use it at all. So far, I absolutely hate the UI. I'll play with it some more and see if I can become more comfortable with it. It does seem to be designed for mobile devices &/or touch screens primarily. I have installed a single App, for ABC Family. But, when I call it I get an error.

I have several streaming boxes: 2 WD models and a KdLinks 720 w/internal HDD bay & two USB ports.

While I can't claim to be in love with the OS on either of those, I find them to be a lot more friendly than Kodi. At least, a lot more familiar to me with a very gentle learning curve. All of them support streaming, but I have barely touched on that function with these units. Not sure what their OS is ... Android?

I also bought an el-cheapo OTA antenna, which is useless. I may try one of the better ones before I give up on the idea.

Several years ago I set up a spare PC for "Cutting the cord", which works great. I've mentioned it in other posts. Although I didn't install/configure all of the options (like mp3 searches), I found it great for both movies and TV shows. That has been the source material I've used mostly with my media players, along with my personal camcorder videos and photographs.

Maybe I've just stagnated with what I found that has worked for me ... sort of like still using a ProVari v2.5 as my primary APV ... works for me! :~) Y'all are leading an old dog to new tricks. I'ma trying them out.

i dunno...

would you like to watch every single Yankees game for free?
Or Gone with the Wind, All in the Family, anything you can think of anytime you want. I do agree with Mama. A cheap box if you don't use it for tons of things and don't care if you get solid HD streams will work for you with a little bit of learning. For me the SS is perfect because I use it most of the time and want HD streams that work and like to get it updated without a lot of work. Kodi 17 is finalized and for me when the SS techs get it worked out so that it will work seamlessly with the addons they will update it. I will be able to do it easily, probably will be a video on how to do it but they will do all the work so it will be an easy update. There are differences in boxes like memory, processors, versions of android. Don't get one with less the v5.1 and the big one for me is support and more people to talk to about things concerning streaming. I have heard that the 905 is the best processor the 912 has some problems. If you don't mind spending some time getting it to work properly and are able to get help the cheaper box will work. If you want easy Netflix, Amazon, HBO go if you have an HBO subscription. An Amazon or Roku works really good but you have to watch what they have to offer if they don't have it you don't get it. But they are really easy.

I realize I am not going to convince anyone to buy a SS because of the price but I figured I have a few mods that cost more then it did so what the hell. I have never regretted it. the most advanced box out there right now is the Minix U1 but they are supposed to come out with a U9 pretty soon. Has some support available but also expensive. Get a <then $50 box and see if you like it and can get it to work for you. You can always get another.

How are they working. I was told to stay away from the rock chip processor but don't know.

For those that have only a TV and Fire TV Stick/Box combo(s) and are tired of remote shuffling, try a SideClick (SC)...

I have two Harmony programmable remotes (520 & 676) which, unfortunately at last check, can not be programmed for the Amazon Fire TV (diff 'language'?) Therefore the SC meets my single remote needs. Luv mine...

My programming from top to bottom:

TV power (Fire Stick always plugged into TV HDMI)
Chl up
Chl down
Vol up
Vol down
Mute
TV source
currently not programmed
