Hi and welcome,

Any product can be counterfeited.
Joye, I believe is credited with the "ego" moniker (along with Janty), but it has become a generic term at this point.

Both Joye and Kanger have "codes" that can be verified on line to confirm authenticity.

Enter code at Bottom Right:
Support - Joyetech

tesa connect'n'check

Hope this helps

It helps to know that "ego" invented by ovale and joyetech. Has become a blanket term for that style of battery and not just a specific battery model from one company anymore.

The ego name came from the big outside threads on the battery - ego cone threading.

Many companies make ego now.
Joy
Kanger
Vision (love the spinners)
Ego, kgo, evod etc.

Ive had 8 dollar clones from fasttech outlive real ones. In many versions there is very little difference, use it, cell finally dies, toss it.

A Kanger eVod (eGo) e-cig is just as good, if not better, than some of the junk Joyetech insisted on selling to newbies.

Joyetech got lazy (2011-2013) and stopped innovating. They were embarrassingly bad, for a while. Selling "type A and B" cartridges "eGo-Cs" and "Ts" when Kanger already had the Protanks and Innokin the iClears, was pathetic.

Thankfully, as Kanger, Aspire and Innokin all developed clearomizer technology and prices across the board started tumbling, Joyetech came into line.

Everybody copies everybody. Past history is past.
