Know Your Enhancers

Interesting list. I was wondering from your previous post with your tobacco recipe if you were a chemist, and now we know you're a chef. Do you know what the ingredients of Inawera's "Sharp Taste" is by any chance, and how it should be used?
"Sharp" is mostly tannin, the stuff that gives tea, dry wines, and beer their sharpness. I could be wrong, but I think they add a little 1-pentanol, which smells like cabonation or leavening.

Piperine- Sold as flash by fa. This is what gives black pepper its spiciness
Can be used to add throat hit or mixed in equal measure with fa pepper black to
add the taste of fresh cracked pepper to your savory mixes.

Great to know; I had wondered exactly what the chemical is, to make it enhance TH -- I use it in everything. It seems to work best if there is *some* nicotine -- it enhances the natural TH of nicotine. Without any nicotine, it doesn't seem to do much.

That effect is known as synergy. It's not so much piperine plus nicotine, but more like piperine TIMES nicotine. Weird, wild stuff!

It's been a godsend for me since I started, since I've always had to stick to fairly low nicotine (10mg max); now that I'm decreasing, it's even more helpful.

Just wish someplace other than ECX carried it (someplace like BCV!), since I really don't get anything else from ECX.

ODP, what say ye on the effects and notes of vanillin crystals? I'd like your input regarding percentage and use. I normally add 1-2drops per 10ml and wonder if adding more is beneficial. TFA only offers 6ml bottles @ 10%, but I'm looking at getting lab grade crystals for cost-effectiveness.

Malic Acid- Sold as sour by tpa. This is the sour note in old fashioned sour
balls candy as well as salt and vinegar crisps. I'm sure you get where this is
going regarding ejuice. It tends to form crystals on coils. WARNINGS: Like any
acid, this stuff eats kanthol, albeit slowly, and when used with nickel coils,
produces nickel compounds classified as class "A" carcinogens (sorry tc fans, and
no, I'm not showing any documentation, as it is simple chemistry: nickel+acid
+air=horrible, dangerous stuff; read a ....ing textbook)
Do you happen to know how it reacts to Titanium or Stainless Steel coils?

I buy crystals on ebay (after messaging the seller with the pertinent questions). I simply make my own extract with pg, same as I do with menthol, syringol, etc.. I've been making my own extracts since back when I used to process my own tobacco. (about 17 years)

Acids do not react with stainless steel, only alkali does. As far as I know, there are no known titanium compounds which are that harmful (in spite of all the scaremongering regarding titanium dioxide). There shouldn't be any reactions involved in vaping that would produce much of anything with titanium coils.

Oops! Dind't answer your actual question, did I? Vanillin is the purer form of the chemical that gives vanilla its characteristic flavor and aroma. At a 10% dilution in pg, such as sold by tpa, just use like you would vanilla flavoring. It is a bit stronger, but also cleaner tasting than vanilla. Vanilla bourbon, vanilla tahity, et al have different characteristics that reflect where they are grown, making each unique. Vanillin lacks any of these notes, and has a more generic vanilla flavor. It is used industrially to extend other vanillas, as it is cheaper.

Thanks for the info I guess if I want to use Malic in my mixes the I will stick with the Stainless or TI.
Good idea all around. My brother gave me a stern warning on nickel coils; he has Ph.D.s in both pharmacology and toxicology, and works on respiratory diseases at Baylor. I trust his assessment.

I regret that after only 9 days on this forum, I feel it necessary to abandon it completely. But before I go, are there any last questions I can answer?

Only one I can think of is, will you stay? You're already a valuable addition to ECF!!!
