just reading through the post and making my list to checkout... lots of books I've read and got me wanting to read them again.. They do have a free software download Kindle for your PC.. I like it... I find shoping for a book at the kindle store a nigthmare if you don't have a book in mind.. What I like is that you can download a sample of a book you think you might like that is nice...

Waitting on the Harry Poter books to come out in audio.. And currently thinking of getting the last two books in the Dune series..

Saw this link, had to check in! I prefer the good authors, character development etc. Am a huge fan of Ayn Rand: totally disagree with her basic premise, but man o man, that gal could WRITE!
For easy reads, Jonathon Kellerman.
If you want a FUN read, pick up just about anything by Mark Twain, yes, Mark Twain. A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court will have you in stitches, as will Innocents Abroad. I didnt start reading him til I was 45 and I was so mad at myself!
About the library: most local libraries have the R.E.A.D.S. program, where you can download either a .pdf or an audio book to your computer. That is how I found Kellerman! Great audio books! Oh and it is FREE! WOOHOO!
Thanks for the thread, MaryKay, I have a new list to work on!

Have you had a chance to physically handle both of them? If at all possible that's what I'd recommend. I got my Kindle 2 just a few months before the Nook came out and I was kicking my own backside thinking I'd probably want the Nook. A few weeks ago I finally got to handle a Nook and see how it worked. I don't think they are all that much different and so it comes down to personal preference. To me, the Nook seemed slower than the Kindle and the color graphics on the bottom were nice for about a minute and then didn't matter anymore. So now I know that I'm happy with my Kindle and don't need a Nook.

But, like I say, I think it's all personal preference. I know next to nothing about gadgety things but, all things being equal, I'd go with the second generation Kindle rather than the first generation Nook. But that's just me.:)

Thanks so much for your feedback, Lioness! ;) I was kind of wondering about that - 2nd generation vs 1st generation and all. The guy at B&N was telling me that all modifications (software) are automatically downloaded into the unit each time you download a book or something to that effect. The fam pitched in and bought a Nook for our oldest sister's bday/mom's day. I'm just debating over which one I want for my Xmas present this year .. I am leaning toward the Nook for various reasons but they are pricey! More research ...

I usually read 2 or 3 books a week and some of my favorites recently have been

"Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen. Loved this book - although I have read reviews where some complained that from a veterinary perspective it was historically inaccurate.

"The Sugar Queen" by Sara Addison Allen

I predominately read Fantasy, Sci Fi and Paranormal stuff ( often read stuff from the young adult section too)- Urban Fantasy is my favorite and I love a good series!

Some of my all time favorites

Mercy Thompson Series by Patricia Briggs - love these, story has a bit of romance woven in but it's not one of those absurd bodice rippers! Mercy is a Skin walker (changes into a coyote) who was raised by werewolves, she's also a bad@ss tatted up VW mechanic. You also get some Vampires and fae mixed in.

Sookie Stackhouse - Charlaine Harris (harper connelly series was good too)

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater - YA book but very good!

Juliet Naked by Rick Hornby (he wrote High Fidelity)

The time traveler's wife : a novel by Audrey Niffenegger - I wouldn't bother with her second book though it was terrible.

The book of the maidservant by Rebecca Barnhouse - also a YA book but based on on a true story. Told from the perspective of Dame Margery Kempes servant on their pilgrimage to Rome. Very quick read - but interesting, I thought.

Bitten (bk 1) , Stolen (bk 2), Broken (bk 6) & Frostbitten (bk 10) - by Kelley Armstrong. I usually don't read series books out of order but Armstrong switches between story lines and characters ... these books are werewolf based on the characters Clay and Elena.

Love this thread!

http://www.goodreads.com is a great place to find new authors and read reviews.

Currently Reading :

The Sandman Vol. 1 by Neil Gaiman

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (don't know how I managed to get through school without reading this!! everyone else seems to have read it!)

Any of the Michael Crichton fans read State of Fear? I really didn't think I was going to like it but I did. I've always believed that the media and certain groups blew the environmental issues out of proportion. This is a good story about that WITH references.

I liked it too! I tend to agree with him that, yes, we need to clean up our act and be good to the earth but when it comes to global warming and trying 'fix' things, we simply don't know enough!

I like Dean Koontz, but mostly his older novels. My two favs of his, he wrote several years ago: "Strangers", and "The Watchers". They made The Watchers into a movie and it was just awful!! Completely different story line, and characters than what was in the book. It was almost unrecognizable! They truly ruined a great story!

I would love to see Stephen Spielberg or George Lucas make a movie from "Strangers", and just leave the story exactly like it is! I've re-read that book many, many times, and I think if done right, it would be a fantastic movie!

I usually read fictional crime, and medical thrillers. I really like Iris Johannsen, and Lisa Gardner books. Keeps you turning the pages!

Watchers is a good movie! Well an ok movie. I have have seen much worse. Pluse it had two of my favorite actors in it. Cory Haim (RIP) and Michael Ironside (best bad guy). There was also Jason Priestly who played Cory's Brother in Lost Boys.
There is another "Watchers" with Keanu Reeves. No relationship to Dean Koontz.

In my opinion they hacked up the Watchers because the theme was a bit much for the 1981 teen audience.I am not sure why they chose to make our hero a kid instead of an adult..maybe because in the 80's there was an overabundance of Teen driven movies. Anyway it's not just like the book but on it's own it's fine.
Maybe one day it will be done agaim..using the original people.

What I would love, is to see "One Door Away From Heaven" in a movie form.
