Some people disagree with the op's attitude but I would have done the same thing. Sticking up for yourself is not going to give ecigs a bad name or create chaos around the world. In fact, more people need to be like this instead of rolling over like a little puppy. That's what's wrong with today's society. Everyone is in love with 'authority' figures. And if they aren't successful being one themselves, they go tattle and try to earn brownie points.

Someone's first approach to me determines how I deal with them. "Excuse me, I don't think smoking is allowed here." calls for a MUCH different response than "Hey! Put that out! You can't smoke here!" And it's not all vapers' responsibility to try and sell ecigs to society. If someone wants to learn about it, I'll tell them everything I know. If they come up to me and start bossing me around, (which is what some people just enjoy doing) then the response will be me telling them to...well, you know.

There's a difference between sticking up for yourself and sticking it to someone else. The OP's post, in my opinion, is the latter not the former.

I disagree. I believe it is our responsibility to educate and inform. I do agree that the way people approach me will determine my response, but I wouldn't turn somone out of hand simply because I didn't like their attitude. Since I'm the one trying to change public opinion my attitude matters just as much as the person approaching me.

We, as a community, can't ..... and whine about not being able to enjoy vaping in public if we refuse to take on the responsibility of dispelling myth and educating those that don't know what vaping is.

This is where I differ from most. For some reason, some vapers seem to have this feeling of responsibility of changing the world view on doing this in public. If you yourself are trying to change public opinion on vaping in public, then that's another story, and I respect that. You shouldn't react the way the OP did. But for the rest of us who believe we should just be left the heck alone, the OP's response was on cue. The person being accused of doing something wrong has just as much of a right to say they aren't.

We can - because the people who are going to listen to the real discussion about vaping in public are NOT going to be the same people that just come up with a holier than thou attitude trying to tell everyone else what to do. The OP told the perpetrator that he wasn't smoking, which he wasn't. That's all that he was obligated to do.

i just wanted to claify things even thought this post was started a while ago. i never acutally told the guy to "beat it" but that's what i was thinking. i dont always say what i am thinking. my device should have spoke larger then words anyways. does a stainless steel provari with a kanger on it look ANYTHING like a cigarette?? unless they started making some new fangled cigarette out of stainless steel i dont think so. if he would have said i dont want you vaping here or i dont like your ecig here maybe i would have responded differently (i still would have continued right after he turned away... he is under no authority to tell me what HE thinks i should or should not be doing, i paid for my admission same as him and there wasnt a no vaping policy so it was none of his buisness.

most places i go to i ask if it is acceptable and usually i get the OK.

when he said "no smoking here" that opened the door, he got a simple, and very accurate response.... i am not smoking. he didnt like that, OH well. i proudly quit smoking 2+ years ago. that's right its been 2 years since cigarette tar has filled my lungs.
