The topic of warranty was brought up in the Volcano forum; however, it realy should be discussed under reviews since the warranty is part of a review. It stopped me from ordering a Lavatube to add to my collection of VV PV's (Buzz, Buzz Pro, and ProVari).

It was quite clearly stated by the exclusive supplier to the US (Volcano) that it would not honor the warranty if ANOTHER SUPPLIER'S DEVICES WERE USED ON THE Lavatube.

This means that only Volcano tanks, attys, cartos, etc. could be used with the Lavatube. I have not run across any other PV's, VV or otherwise, that have this type of exclusion. There is the VMod which uses a proprietary atty/carto, but their forum is full of suggestions on how to mod a standard atty/carto to work on the VMod. There may even be some of the cigarette look alikes that use a proprietary thread, but many vapers walked away from these a long time ago.

At first glance, the warranty seems quite generous since it goes out to one year. However, Volcano has borrowed a page from Gillette who gives away razors to sell expensive razor blades.

An atty/carto is nothing other than a resitance wire with a wick of some sort, regardless of who manufactures it. Not to mention the rebuildable ones like the A2! There are some good ones out there and some bad ones. I am not saying that the Volcano stuff is good or bad, but it is expensive. Their attys are $6.99 where good quality Joyes from reputable suppliers could be had for $5 in quantities of 5. How many serious vapers keep only one or two atty's around?

The only way for Volcano to control this is to check your orders of attys/tanks. This could lead to all kinds of disputes: you have not ordered from us, but I have other devices, I don't vape that much, etc., etc.

The Lavatube is an interesting device, but the warranty is a deal breaker for me.

The atty/carto is a consumable-the same way that juice is. Costs aside, if I look at the development in the last 18 months with tanks, feed systems (e.g. Vapemate), CE's, dual coils, etc., do I want someone telling me what to put on my device?
There is no technical reason for such a restrictive warranty. The only purpose is to put more money into the pocket of Volcano.

Some of you may think that this is fine and love Volcano as a supplier who can do no wrong. It will only be a question of time before some other comes up with a similar product, so I will wait.

Others may think otherwise. This is an open forum, so express yourselves!

Caveat emptor! Let the buyer beware!

I was not looking to buy it since i'm happy with my other stuff but that right there is bad business. Giving themselves a back door to not accepting warranty fix and limiting a customer to buy from them only. I know nothing about the vendor and never bought anything from them but that's not how you market a new product IMO.

The LavaTube is also available from vendors outside of the US...
It comes with a longer warranty period and a far less restricted one for that matter (6 months on tube, 3 on batts+charger).

The Australian GG shop for example has the full kit(Tube,2 x batts, single battery charger & user manual) on pre-order for $68AU (almost identical to USD).
No restriction on where you buy your atomizers/cartomizers as long as they're 510 compatible...

I got mine from Vapeking in Australia, mine was an early release so it is not on their site as yet but so far it is a pretty awesome piece of kit for the price. It's a perfect back-up device or good for those wanting to try a VV device before commiting to buy a high end device.

My Provari is still my pride and joy but the Lava Tube is a good substitute. Best way to think of it is like cars... comparing an 1980's car to a Ferrari they will both get you to where you need to go but one has more features, better finish, higher quality and a higher price tag. I am more than happy for my Lava Tube to take all the high risk jobs that would normally have me stressing over the safety of my pristine Provari.

Ideal to use when fishing, painting, gardening, camping, concreating, boating etc....
only because if you scratch it, drown it or otherwise kill it, it is cheap to replace.

No stupid demands in Australia on where you get your accessories from either.
