THE VAPERS PRAYER.
This is my vaporizer
there are many like it,
but this is my mine.
my vaporizer is my best friend
it is my life.
i must master it, as i must master my life.
without me my vaporizer is useless.
without my vaporizer i am useless.
i must fire my vaporizer true.
i must shoot straighter than my enemy(tobacco), who is trying to kill me.
i must shoot (tobacco) my enemy before it shoots me.
i will.before god i swear this creed.
my vaporizer, and myself are defenders of my country.
we are the masters of our enemy(tobacco).
we are the saviors of my life.
so be it. until there is no enemy(tobacco).
but peace. AMEN

I call it an electronic cig because ppl who dont know about what im holding tend to think im smoking some sort of pipe and i dont like being look down on as a pot smoker. Most ppl know that ecigs are safer and healthhier that cigs so im proud to say what it is. Others opinion of me doesnt matter because im not doin it for anyone but myself. Stick with whatever makes you feel better and happy n VAPE ON :vapor:

Heh, what's in a name.

This topic comes up once in a while because the basic idea is extremely relevant. Basically every idea or movement that managed to change the tide of public opinion in its favor did so, in some part, through re-branding. I'm not exactly sure we're there yet, though.

The truth is that the term 'e-cig[arette]' started out as a bizarre novelty and still has that feel. It is also constantly accruing negative image through 'floating' semi-digested factoids. The word cigarette, I bet, contributes every day to lazy legislators assuming they're 'just as bad'. Like someone suggested, imagine pharma trying to sell their patches as 'sticky cigarettes'. The other truth is, also, that '[advanced] personal vaporizer' is automatically associated with the vaporization of other materials by many non-vapers. I fly a lot and I experimented with many combinations and, to my dismay, 'it's like an electronic cigarette' works best with TSA. With the exception of an old ProVari, none of my gear is 'electronic' anyway :) 'Smoking cessation device' was a close second. Anything with the word 'vapor' raises eyebrows.

Finding the perfect word takes a strike of lucky genius. Turning that into a household name takes a whole different level of campaigning.

In defense of the OP, he's new to the *new members* forum and it appears that some of us have already rolled our eyes, sighed, and told him he's beating a dead horse for posting an honest opinion and question about a subject. A search box query of 'Why are they called e cigs?" brings up 1988 pages of threads. No wonder he came to the new members forum to ask. :) He probably did not even know that Mr. Hon Lik invented the device, when he posted.

Personally, I call mine a PV if someone asks me about it , then if people give me a confused look, I say "its like an electronic cigarette, but "vapers" prefer to call personal vaporizer....PV.... it vaporizes liquid with nicotine (or not) instead of burning tobacco. Its helped me quit smoking cigarettes". Then if they inquire more then I explain more. I personally don't "correct" anyone who calls it an "e-cigarette", because I don't want to seem as if I think I belong to some elitist club or whatever. If asked, then I give all the info they want, and if they want to get into vaping, then all the better.

In a way, "E-cig" is the term that non vapers understand....."PV" or "Mod" or "APV" is sort of like vaper's lingo that is learned when non vapers turn into vapers. :)

ive had the same issue with the hybrid mod ive been developing, unfortunatly when you tell someone unfamilier with vaping other than seeing an ecig, its the only way you can give them a quick idea of what it is without a long explaination, telling them its like an ecig clears it up to move on to explain what vaping is and the device you have in front of them,as it grows in popularity im betting ecigs will be looked back on as the old style, till then, its the shortest answer to the point :)

:toast::toast::toast:. SALUTE WHEN YOU SAY THAT NAME. thanks, i never knew his name. may he and his enjoy riches, and happiness beyond imagination. the only other thing i can compare it to is the invention of the electric light bulb. the man is literally responsible for saving millions of lives. quite the accomplishment.

Well. The yungins at my job calls them hookahs . The a-holes call it an electric d..k. Me. E-cig or vaporizer. Quite a bit of people there are curious and ask a lot of questions. I answer them as best I can but usually direct them to Google to find out more about my setup.

It seems more and more are trying disposable ones and say the don't like it and I'm wasting money.

Eh. I don't really care what they think. Its my money I'm saving.

My electric jam stick o_O. Got a raised eyebrow from a co-worker when I said that. But then again he came up asking if I was vaporizing wax or some illegal form of usage. "Nope just my electric nicotine jam stick," I replied and he looked at me funny. But I was in a stressed sarcastic mood at the time so didn't much care.

On topic, e-cig, personal vaporizer, electronic nicotine delivery system, what would we call it then, electronic cigarette simulator??? Yeah the stigma we have to shed from the bad image analogs have had for years, meh, people will be people trying to be judge of everyone not in their set little niche of society as heathens, sinners, whatever. Just give them back silence and be on my way if I know by their tone and body language trying to enlighten their closed minds to truth and fact, a little cynical, but I choose which battles I wish to lock horns with someone on more wisely anymore compared to when I was younger.
