And given that I am half Frog and half Jew on my mothers side, I can say this...
They operate with a Nazi mentality, and they follow he Nazi playbook to the letter day by day.

You don't have to be half Jew to speak the truth. The techniques used today were carefully developed and worked out long ago. Millions can be deluded by a Big Lie.

The increasing quantities of antidepressant and antipsychotic medication being prescribed to patients with non-psychological disorders (or borderline/behavioural problems) is very troubling. Ordinary people don't seem to know where to draw the line in evaluating their own health - what's a normal part of 'being human' and what's a potential problem.

I have a friend who's on medication to control his schizophrenia and he completely needs it to live a normal and productive life - I also have friends who are completely dependent on antidepressants but I question the benefits - they seem to really struggle with feeling anything - no good days and no bad ones - life slips by and they never have the drive and the energy to achieve anything.

Just not sure what to make of the whole Pharma thing - there's no question that there's drugs and treatments that save lives and bring huge quality-of-life benefits to some people - seems to be a really ugly underbelly to it all though...

It is useful to remember that the ultimate goal of Big Pharm is what they call Maintenance Drugs, where you have to take them for life to have a normal life. I have heard that they really, really want to find a Maintenance Drug for cancer . . . it never cures you, but will keep you alive so long as you keep on with the drug. Just lovely, isn't it?

That's pretty much where there are with HIV now right? Treatable, you can live a longer (and more profitable for them) life - but no cure...

Lol! Have you seen this book? Might be useful to get a few copies for those people you know that don't 'get it' :)

I consider being dyslexic an advantage rather than a handicap. For example your avatar; the first thing I see is the flaw across the second metacarpal. (a deviation from the norm/something that doesn't belong)

Drugs to cure diseases. Drugs to alleviate painful symptoms of disease. Drugs to prevent diseases. Drugs to alleviate unpleasant symptoms. Drugs to improve your health. Drugs to treat "conditions" that somebody says aren't desirable. Drugs to make you feel better. Drugs to make you stop feeling bad. Drugs to alleviate side effects of the above.

    Where does it end?

Back to gateways. IMO, the only people who could possibly believe in vaping is a gateway to smoking meet the following criteria:

    1. Never smoked.
    2. Never vaped.
    3. Believe nicotine is evil.
    4. Have forgotten that nicotine is legal.
    5. Don't believe that parents need to be responsible for their offspring.

Maybe I'm getting old, but I don't see it going any place good. So much of the world revolves around short-term gain that I wonder exactly what it is we're leaving for our children's children...

Big Pharma, w/ willing complicity of the medical profession, has made us (most of us, anyway) believe that there's a "pill" for everything and anything, that one should never have to simply wait for the body to heal itself (or at least give it a chance) and that Rx is always better than OTC.

Aha! So how do you feel it impacts the image of vaping if non-smokers start vaping? I think they should (if they want to) - and I think we should freely share our knowledge and enthusiasm with them in the hope that they'll find whatever it is they're hoping to find (new experiences, the joy of tinkering and experimenting, new friends).

As I mentioned at the beginning of this thread, some vapers seem to see it almost as taboo - like it damages our credibility - from my perspective, I don't see vaping as smoking or smoking cessation - vaping is its own thing and if people want to do it, they shouldn't be tarnished with the prejudices that smokers are already (unfairly) tarnished with.

As long as there are people who just follow and not question why they need to take something in the first place. Don't get me wrong, I believe in medicines when there is a darned good reason to take them. I'm a breast cancer survivor of 25 years and after getting a second and a third opinion, I agreed to the surgery and the chemotherapy and I'm glad I did.

I was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic 5 months ago with A1C of over 12 and received the call from the doctor's office that the doctor wanted me to start insulin shots, take metformin and lovastatin to boot (the lovastatin was for 2 points above the mark mind you). So right off the bat I refused to do the insulin shots as I understand the disease and it isn't that my body doesn't generate insulin, it just doesn't absorb it. I immediately went on a very strict diet of almost 0 carbs, and did take the metforming and the lovastatin for 4 days. I stopped taking the meds because the reaction I had was horrible. To make a long story short, three months later I got another A1C test and it came at 5.8 and my cholesterol was perfect.

I respect my doctor for his knowledge but I will not blindfully follow any regimen if it doesn't make sense to me after thorough research and I fully accept the consequences of my decisions.

Ah yes, thank you, I got distracted by the pharma thing.

I think every adult should make the decision about whether or not to vape (or smoke, or drink, or eat cake or get up in the morning) for him- or herself.

Agree with your last paragraph. The main reason I think ECFers are reluctant to recommend or encourage vaping to non-smokers is the "troll factor."

Good for you - I love to hear when people have taken responsibility for the quality of their life into their own hands - it's incredibly empowering to know that you're the one controlling how much or little an illness or disease impacts your life rather than being reliant on meds.

That's not to say that medication isn't appropriate - in some cases, obviously it is - but sometimes we have the option of taking things into our own hands rather than relying on others - which I guess is why we all feel so good about vaping :)

I have taken no meds in the past other than aspirins and don't plan to start, but everyone I know brags about their meds. Truly I am in the 60's group and do not not know one person who isn't on something.

This is for RoseJ as well. I have nothing whatsoever against meds, *when they're necessary.* (I had a tooth pulled (ouch but bearable. The dentist gave me a Rx for percocet (sp?), 30 pills, "in case I felt uncomfortable in the next day or so."... huh?)

klynn I see exactly the same thing w/ so many of my elderly neighbors, who blindly follow their doctor's orders, most often without even reading the insert that comes with each Rx and who frequently aren't even sure what they're taking them for...)

There are so many spices and supplements that can be used to offset a lot of these meds. My neighbor gets me to take her to the pharmacy once a month. I ask her have you ever tried to see what life is like without this and she is scared to death to even try. I can't say try it but would love to. I guess I just don't feel doctors know as much as they think they do.

Reminds me of my friend on antidepressants - she's convinced she wouldn't be able to cope without them and so doesn't even attempt to. I remember when these things were prescribed to help you get through a 'bad patch' - now they're given out to help you through life.

Us smokers have picked up a lot of bad habits, that came along with smoking, guilt being the biggest one. It's not our fault, it's from how we were treated by nonsmokers, society, and the powers that be - we, as a group, were demonized, marginalized and punished for decades.

After dealing with some minor guilty issues with this myself, I've come around - I agree, if an adult of their own free will want to try 0mg vaping, it's their choice, they own it, not me. I won't push it on anyone, but I'm not going to hide it, like I hid smoking, and I'm not going to not share what I know.

I'm owning my switching to vaping, regardless of who "tsk tsks" me, using the scare tactics the media is pushing right now. I admitted it to my extended Facebook "family" after realizing I was avoiding it. Why? Because I didn't want the COMMENTS. Well, #@#$ that. Make your comments. I'm owning this, it's gotten me to stop smoking, I can FEEL the benefits, and if you refuse to see that, well, too bad. And if someone is curious about it from my post, great, I'll tell you all you want to know, especially if they smoke themselves. I discovered someone else I know was using vaping, too, and we've been sharing our flavor adventures. :)

I 70 and don't take anything. My wife is a year younger and neither does. Many of the people I paddle with are older than me and I never heard anyone even mention pills.

Well actually I do use nicotine.
