Hey.. I didn't get any nibbles on the main post.. but can anyone answer my coil question? That is.... Does going with more wraps leads to a better vaping coil? Say... at the same resistance... would a higher wrap of a lower resistance wire come out with a better vape (better heat distribution, fewer chance of hot spots, allow for higher voltages and power without burning?)

You are correct. More wraps will give you more surface area and more vape. So a 1-2 wrap of 32 awg wire will not vape as well as a 3-4 wrap of 28 awg. Even though they might be the same resistance the 28 awg will have more surface area and perform better. IMO

Well... more wraps = higher resistance... sure... what I am looking at is comparing, say a 5 wrap 32g coil to like a 6 or 7 wrap 30g coil... Let's say they end up at the same resistance (for argument's sake)... will the coil that is wrapped with more coils perform better?

Maybe I am going to answer my own question... But really what we are all getting after is heat on the juice. The little goldielocks zone where there is enough heat into the juice to vaporize it, but not too much as to start burning it. If you have 8w going over a 5 wrap coil and 8w going over a 7 wrap, the 5 wrap coil will be 'hotter' in the sense that if you look at a given section of wire, it will have a higher temp.

With more wraps, it should accomplish several things... first, more surface area in contact with the wick and juice, so there is the potential for more vaporization (not in the cloud-chasing aspect, just more flavorful, fuller draws)... secondly, the heat is distributed over more coils, so that should allow you to increase the voltage (and therefor total power). More heat over increased surface area should mean more juice vaporized and a decreased likelihood of oxidizing (burning) it. End result is a better vape.

Awesome... I am finding that RDA/RBA type devices might be a better option for me.... I recently picked up a humble littke Smoke 'octopus' RDA, and I find it just easy to deal with, use and clean... just pull the bell housing, rinse and dry the wick and prime with the new flav. Not to mention giving a really good vape. I see myself phasing out my trusty Evods as my go-to device and going to a rebuildable heavy lineup... I like the RDAs for the simple grab and go... and maybe something like an RSST as my workhorse, sit-and-vape piece of kit. So I don't have to stress out so much making as compact and tiny a coil as possible to fit into that Lilliputian coil body ... with more room to play with, I was going to pick up some lower resistance wire than the 32 I have now and start wrapping larger coils.

I think I might do silica to start... Don't know anything about SS Mesh wicks and wouldn't even know where to start (which to pick... 400 or 450... no idea)

Hey Leo. Just remember all these devices have their pros and cons. Lots of these RBA/RDA's have little capacity compared to a clearomizer. It's kind of a PITA to be tethered to your juice bottle. This is why I got a Genny AGA. It's a tank and holds lot of juice and the flavor quality approaches that of an RBA. I use an SS wick with it but it can be outfitted with silica as well. My AGA is very finicky...the resistance likes to climb as I use it. Additionally, there are just times I cannot hack an RBA (like now). For some reason, it's too much and I hack my head off. So I switch to a clearo (like now) such as a stock Vivi Nova. It's a lighter hit and is serving the purpose very well.

Just saying you don't want to be too anxious to ditch your Evods.

Overall, I prefer the RBA's too.

If you want help with SS wicks, just ask. There are plenty of us here who do it. You can also watch some vids on YouTube. It's not hard. Get 400 mesh if you do. Good standard mesh. I think GT uses 400 and he vapes 100% VG. I use it for 70/30 and it's fine. Some people use SS cable and put a diaper on it. You can go to any extreme you like. :)

Then you have the other end of the spectrum. Once I started on RBA it has now become all I vape. I have 2 cobras on mechanical mods and 2 hybrids and an agt on my simplicity. Once I started on rebuildable I couldn't go back to cartos or. Clearos

RBA's are addictive to be sure.

Oh, I am not ditching them... they will always have their use. But I think I might end up putting my 'dessert' stuff in there to vape a few times and put down. Capacity on the little RDA is a bit of a pain sometimes, but the performance far outweighs that limitation and that is why I was looking at the RSST. Seems to be highly regarded, easy to deal with and it has a 3ml PP tank, so capacity wouldn't be much of a problem. I know it'll require some fiddling, but that's kind of in my wheelhouse. I fiddle with everything that I own that can be fiddled with, my laptops, my smartphone, my tivos, my cars... if something is messed up, I like to be the one fixing it.

It's funny, just a couple of weeks ago, I didn't really give mechs or RBAs the time of day... didn't have much use for them. I hadn't rebuilt anything yet, so the battery-dependant voltage of a mech meant that most of my gear wouldn't be much use as they stood. And I hadn't yet tried a dripping atty or an RDA... so ignorance was bliss.

But recently, I think my vaping tastes have developed and the "RBAs on a mech" is the next logical step forward. Guess that's kind of me graduating from vape school, taking off my training wheels and putting on my big boy vaping pants. I guess I was lying to myself if I thought I wouldn't end up there.

Maybe I'm a snob... I see no point in any other vape anymore.. Yep I'm a snob.

Nah... you only become a snob when you start to act stomping around and telling people that what they vape is crap and the only correct way is your way...

You'll know you've reached that stage when your topics end up always becoming discussions about waffles and tacos.

Well, the other point is sometimes an RBA can be a bit too strong and I work on my clearos until my lungs straighten out. But geez, in terms of quality vape the RBAs can't be beat.

Torched my m16 clone last night. Came out decent but I want it more charred. Took the sentinel clones base and swapped for color. I think it looks awesome for a 15$ dollar mod.
Looked good when I polished it also but this looks better.

Well... I done gone did it...

Ordered a K100 mech, an RSST, a spool of 28 gauge, 4 #400 SS mesh wicks and a couple of IMR 18350s (not sure if I'll use this on the K100 or swap them with the 18650s I use with my Vamo).

The K100 came with a fuse, which is nice, couldn't find the blasted things and figured I might want to have on in there just in case. And the RSST came with some spares...

Maybe they'll be here by Friday.

Good thing that my taste has gone into the toilet again and I'm teatoddling juice again (you can roll your eyes Bronze... I was doing better, but I lost my patience and started vaping like the world was ending and had a setback). I just ...... away another $100 on vape gear. HA! My supply is going to need to last a couple of weeks, at least.

I believe you are correct, Leo. You can also increase the heating area by using ribbon wire instead of round.

Lol, you will love the mechanical and RBA combo. Then soon you will graduate from the k100 and start getting high end mods and atties and your spouse will want to kill you and wish you would just go back to smoking. Well, that's my story anyway lol.
