Y'all make some beautiful coils! I haven't tried a micro yet...I have nothing to make one on except my Phoenix and I put that one away for a while. Maybe I can try one when I get my kayfun counterfeit from fasttech.

Do it carefully. I've been reading about centre posts shorting out devices on the counterfeit ones. Just a heads-up..

Say RJ, how close are you to Lanett, AL?

RJ, I use micros on my Phoenix. I also use cotton on them because I vape my nasty NET gunkers out of them and I can rewick in no time flat.

I'll be honest, micro coils are so easy to make its sick. Wrap TIGHT around a drill bit or a small screwdriver and if they all aren't touching squeeze em tight and torch. Or get on your mod safely! And fire then squeeze with a pair of tweezers.

Agree Smit...microcoils are a cinch. I make microcoils out of my spaghetti before eating it.

Yeah I really haven't researched Kayfuns whatsoever so I have no clue about them. I need to get on that.

Lanett is almost 3 hours away from me. I had to google it...never heard of it. Right on the AL/GA line.

So, I decided to take my Reo Grand out of time-out today and clean/rebuild it to return it back into service. Damn thing fell apart on me. The silicone tube running up the bottle to the connector came apart, and it looks like it's a custom jobbie so, I can't really put it back together.

I sent a PM to Rob at Reos Mods and have asked if I can send it in for a full service overhaul.

Good thing I don't rely on the Grand 24/7 anymore. The last time I sent it in, I used FedEx with a return FedEx envelope enclosed. I had it in to Rob and back to me in 3 days. :D

It did cost me $50 to do that though..

So... If dropping her ProVari makes Robin into 'Spaz', Does this mean you are now 'Sparkey' ?
just asking.....

Has anyone else encountered this :

Rebuilding coils as I do once a week, routine maintenance to me. Both coils meter @ 1.6 ohms before dry firing. After dry-firing, one coils still meters @ 1.6 (normal), but the second meters @ 0.8 ohms. While this rarely happens with my coils, it has happened before. Using 28 Kanthal from Temco. Any idea why a micro coil would suddenly loose resistance ? Both coils hold steady readings, and am using both of them today so it's not hurting anything, just seems a little weird to me...

Hmm.. a short somewhere would potentially account for the drop you're seeing. It would mean that there is a piece of the coil wire touching something it's not supposed to.

What device/delivery system is this happening on?

if I was to do my coils and get em all set up and running and then realize one side has mores wraps then the other would that hurt anything?

Well... remember that electricity likes to find the path of least resistance... what is going to happen is that the smaller coil will heat up long before the other... if the resistance varies too much (1 wrap might be enough), you pretty much end up with a single coil vape that may be way too hot.

Pull the wick and do a dry fire... notice how the smaller coil glows a lot quicker than the other one? When you are juiced up, you'll really only get vapor from the one coil.

With dual coils, if they don't glow at the same time (or pretty close), you need too fiddle with it. Sometimes, even different length legs on identical coils can cause enough of a difference in resistance to affect performance.

RM2 on either a Mini 14500 or a Mini 2.1. I've rarely encountered this, but it does happen. I test ohms before and after dry firing because, as some have learned, mechanical mods don't have much in the way of short protection, and I always trim the backend of the coil legs flush with the back of posts. I'll look a little closer....

EDIT: nope, nothing touching that I can see. Now when I dry fire a fresh coil (after a good ohms check) I tend to hold down on it until the entire coil turns bright red. Is it possible to 'weld' Kanthal together, but then it would 'skip' coils, wouldn't it ?

For an RDA.... if the center post is OK.... it's pretty hard to get a short from coil legs. You would have to have a tail from the negative post coming in contact with a tail from the positive post. That takes a little effort :) The other possibility is if the a positive tail is in contact with the deck or the top, with the former being the higher likelihood.

Most RDAs are pretty spaced out. It's not like a coil head for a Protank or Evod, where the positive leg is extremely close to shorting out even on a proper build. If you trim the legs relatively close to the posts once you are all tightened down, it is damn near impossible to run into shorting problems (unless a coil pops loose).

How does everyone fill their Kayfun 3.1s? I see a lot of folks using those green plastic things...which I don't have. Can I use a syringe and needle? I have to use 14 gauge needles due to 100% VG. Heck, HHV's needle tops won't work with 100% VG...and I couldn't even get Clay's 100% VG NETs out of his plastic bottles. I haven't even tried the 14 gauge needles I have...but I read somewhere that it's best for thick juices. Will those work?

I don't have a Kayfun... BUT...

A HHV NET... specifically Legend... my cotton wicks start to get pretty foul after a day or so (sorry, don't know how much juice... but not a ton). If I pop the top on my RDA, the wicks look really dark and kind of stanky.

On something other than a NET... like Cinful Apple or Angel's Kiss... the cotton wicks last a LOT longer... up to a week.
