Okay, here is my objective review of the Provari.
I'm not coming from a fanboi perspective in any kind of way.I began vaping in August of last year. I've had, and have, several types of devices, from straight batts to VV to VW. I have no slavish allegiance to any of them. I don't give a rat's behind who makes em or where they come from, though I do aknowledge the difference in QC between USA made products and those manufactured in, particularly, China.
Here's my take then. The Provari is well-made. No question. I have no long-term experience, but it, feels, handles, and performs - so far- solidly. That, and the repution of this device, gives me a positive impression.
The Pros: Solid, exacting machining and manufacture. Excellent electronics that perform as expected. I've heard that Provaris are the gold standard of VV devices. I have no argument with that, fine. It is not nearly as big or heavy as I imagined. It has a pleasant, businesslike heft. The feel in hand is nice, finish is near flawless, and this is a blem (which I can see in the right light, a rather minor variance in the ceramic coating in one spot). With my delivery device of choice, I get a smooth, consistent vape provided I set it correctly in regards to the ohms of the atty. There is no "rattlesnake" effect that you get with some mods. I feel very confident that I get what I'm setting. Also, this is a very attractive, upscale-looking device.
The cons: There are a few, which may upset some folks. These seem to be known quantities though, so let's not get carried away. Okay, I may have ruined that pristine Provari experience by using some more advanced tech first. Yeah, I said that. Did I say BETTER tech? Nope. I said more advanced. I'm talking Variable Wattage. I'm talking multiple button ease of use. There is something to be said for "set it and forget it" VW operation. I love that. Provari does not have it. There's something to be said for pressing a button once and getting your atomizer ohms. Or your battery charge. Or switching between VV and VW. That's nice. Tell me it's not.
The provari is also not ego-threaded in its very-shallow drip well. Don't need that? Bull. I do. I have a few ego-threaded sleeves that hold my preferred Vivi Novas stable on my other devices. Without those sleeves, they are supported by only their rather sloppy 510 threads. Which will bugger up your Provari, I bet, and be VERY unstable and wobbly. Too bad they work so well otherwise. That ego connection solves that problem easily, using one of those sleeves, making a secure base for any delivery device. My Vamos are rock-solid with a Nova attached. That Nova is not going anywhere. It will twist and break off the Provari. Yes, it will. In fact, any device has only those tiny 510 threads to hold it on. Provari fails here. (In truth, Novas are the fail, but other mods are capable of mitigating that, witness the 1/3 price Vamo, or the Lavatube.)
Now, technology. I mentioned advanced tech, and I bet ProV peeps are railing. Surely Provari has better tech. Depends how you look at it. Is Chinese tech more advanced? Is Provape's tech more solid? Yes and yes.
Let's use an analogy. Provape is making the absolute best tube televisions. China has come out with some really cool flat screen HDTVs with questionable QC. Provape doubles down on those tube TVs, resting on their well-deserved laurels. China improves their Flat screens.
How many of you are still watching tube TVs? For how long? Provape better up their game, cuz I for one like the new tech. As good as theirs is - and it's terrific, from what I can see - they are gonna get run over. And soon.
Provape can dominate the market. They can hold on to their reputation as the Cadillac of Personal Vaprisors. (Wait a minute. Isn't Cadillac a bit of a dinosaur?) All they have to do is get with the program and upgrade. If they go VW, even with their clumsy one-button menu system - which is a pain in the ..., by the way - they will continue to dominate and demand their premium prices. If not...
So, do I like the Provari? Oh yes, it's a nice piece of kit. Folks had some extremely nice things, years ago. Like gaslights. We have LEDs now.
