I'm going to Lowe's today. If they have any steel cable, I'll give it a shot. FYI, depending on the size of the wick hole in your device, different thickness steel cable would be needed.

.094in. = 3/32 = 2.38mm

.109in. = 7/64 = 2.79mm

.125in = 1/8 = 3.18mm

Yes that is correct but it seems 7x7 strand core cable works best for wicking.

I got mine here http://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Str...are+OD,+25'+Length,+700+lbs+Breaking+Strength

Also make sure you do not get galvanized cable that would not be good.

I am intrigued by this. I am shocked that this would wick. I mean I love learning about this. Had no idea that this material would be porous enough to wick a liquid. Crazy.

Not only does it wick, it wicks amazingly! I've never had a mesh wick like this. I need to order larger cable to do my original agas. I'm done with mesh wicks

The originals are 1/8 hole. I have 2 T2's coming with 1/8 holes. What size would those take? I really wanna try this.

One more thing if any of you try the wire rope wick. There is a tiny piece of nylon string in the center of the cable from amazon, to get rid of this you and untwist the cable take it out and then twist it back up. It is fairly easy to twist back up, or just burn it out. I burn the cable to red hot anyway to make sure all the tooling oil and whatever else is in there gets burnt out.

That was my plan. Thx. How in the effing world did you think to throw some stainless steel rope cable up in that piece? That just kinda blows my mind.

Here is some 49-strand bright stainless steel used for making shark leaders. I know the 400# test is .054". They go up to 900# test so you ought to be able to get the size you want. Just contact them for diameters. I'm sure they'll tell you. And 49 strands...I'm guessing the more strands the better the wicking? Just a guess.

It is amazing. Not only does it wick better than mesh, the consistency factor is great. No more rolling the occasional so so wick , they will all be the same

The only issue I'm concerned with is the quality of the steel. SS mesh is made from 316 stainless, aka surgical grade. I highly doubt if steel cable is of the same makeup. It is more likely 302 or 304 steel which are more industrial. I'm a little hesitant to vape that without knowing more about potential chromium toxicity.

I agree X. Got to be careful with this stuff. Most of the steel leaders in fishing is 304.
