I'm a sucker for a nice wood mod also...have had some nice pieces through the years. I have a little Gepetto 18350 that is awesome with the KFL and as part of the deal on one of my Zens just got a Red Sky VV Box mod. Haven't had a chance to fire it up yet but it looks great and has a recessed area for a tank. It's a little big but think it will be a great knock around mod...wood mods are so durable.
By emailing REOS Mods, was able to get Brass Finish RM2 (basically RM2 with exterior chrome finish turned off). Payment made, should receive this week. One step closer, this will be RBA for my Woodvil....
I was wondering if there was a general consensus among the kayfun users here regarding silica or cotton ?
Well built three micro coils with organic cotton. The first one took me well over an hour, but then followed up with two more in about 20 minutes. They all came in around 1.8 which I like. Two of them are vaping fabulous, the third I'm getting a little harsh/burnt taste. Now I've used up my patience for his afternoon so will probably let it sit until tomorrow. I'm wondering if I have a little too much cotton in it? Who knows..maybe after my nap I'll drain it and take a look.
Micro coils with cotton on all three K-Lites right now. They've been easy as all heck to maintain. Open up, pull out old wick, quick rinse and dry burn of the micro coil, insert new cotton wick and you're good to go. I don't know what the heck I'm going to do with all the silica and ekowool I have on hand..
I started off experimenting with Silica and Ekowool. The results were good but I kept having to revisit them every couple days. Since I've never been one to dry burn wick, I used to have to rebuild every time I cleaned the K-Lites. Time consuming, and fussy to setup. The micro coils have made this whole process so much easier.
So, I decided to take my Reo Grand out of time-out today and clean/rebuild it to return it back into service. Damn thing fell apart on me. The silicone tube running up the bottle to the connector came apart, and it looks like it's a custom jobbie so, I can't really put it back together.
I sent a PM to Rob at Reos Mods and have asked if I can send it in for a full service overhaul.
Good thing I don't rely on the Grand 24/7 anymore. The last time I sent it in, I used FedEx with a return FedEx envelope enclosed. I had it in to Rob and back to me in 3 days.
It did cost me $50 to do that though..

Update...after too short of a nap got up and drained the KFL and trimmed just the slightest amount of cotton off each end of the wick, put it back together and it's great. There is a fine line between too much cotton and a wick that works great. I really wish we didn't have to bowl tonight, would much rather just cuddle up on the couch and watch some tv.
Thank's for the update , I've got a lot of cotton but just a little bit of silica left and I was trying to decide if I should order more , guess I don't have to , I'll have to experiment when I get my clone .
Remember with cotton, less is more. the cotton should slide into your micro coil with very little resistance. It should not look clumped up on either side of the coil. If it does that, the cotton will not wick well and will burn almost instantly.
This is so true....what I'm finding is it looks like one cotton ball will be enough to make at least six wicks (and probably more if I was more careful). Now I'll just have to see how long they seem to last for the juices I use.
So I shouldn't roll it too tight then ? I realise it's a totally different system but find if I don't roll tight on a protank it floods .
Well.... those dang BCC coils use the wick as a seal as well as a wick, so you have to balance things. If it's too loose, the thing leaks and it's useless, if it's too tight, it won't wick for crap and you'll burn the cotton.
I've found that as long as you can pull the wick through the coil without it getting messed up, you are fine. But with a bcc, you can use some small cotton wisps, like those flavor wicks, to help seal up that hole.

Ok I am trying my luck with this and I don't have issues building but my question is if I was to do my coils and get em all set up and running and then realize one side has mores wraps then the other would that hurt anything? I got everything done and realized I had 1 side with 10 wraps and the other with 11. Using 28g.

I started with silica, then just last week put in cotton as I didn't want to rebuild a new coil. Can't say which I like better, both are/were giving me excellent flavor.

Y'all make some beautiful coils! I haven't tried a micro yet...I have nothing to make one on except my Phoenix and I put that one away for a while. Maybe I can try one when I get my Kayfun counterfeit from Fasttech.
