I promise I won't bring this up again, I'm really just trying to help. My order of TEMCo Kanthal showed up today, 4 days from placing the order through Ebay. Still no sign of the order I placed directly from TEMCo 7 days ago.

Time to get a butane refill can for the torch. Anyone here roll solid mesh sticks instead of hollow straws? I've been reading a bunch of info from BJ43, that guy is a smart fella. Not as adventurous as scubabatdan, but still very knowledgeable in the world of wicking.

sigelei #19, less than $30 to my door. Took some modding to get it to fire up to spec.

It went from this:

to this:

Torched one of my AGA-T2s to match the job. Worth the effort. What's next? :p

Up till now I've been using prerolled mesh to make my coils. Early on i struggled with mesh which is why i gave up on gennys.
Finally made my own from start to finish.
28 gauge with 7 wraps i think posted at 1.4.
After 5 minutes i took it apart and undid one coil. Loving this sheet now CLOUDS!
If my current mood sticks i might not be using carto tanks much longer :)

Less wraps works best on gennys. The coil heats up faster that way. I always try to make sure I'm at 3 or 4 wraps max depending on the device, mod and gauge wire. If I want more resistance, I use a thinner wire, not more wraps. That's brought me the greatest success.

As for your carto tanks, don't shy from them so quickly. Some juice doesn't translate well in genesis attys. Cartos may mute some flavors, but you always get a moist and saturated vape which lends itself to certain flavors. Then there's the silica attys like the Odys and RDAs. Those definitely have their specific place among the gamut of flavors you may be into. Every flavor reacts differently, so pay attention to the subtleties of your own palate.

Ordered me a VAMO today. Finally convinced management (a.k.a. The Wife) to let me get one, although I was not able to convince her to get batteries for it...just the SS VAMO from FastTech since it was only 27.99. At least I got the unit so next payday'ish I can get the batteries and hopefully a rebuildable to get started. I love the tinkering side of things, so I'm looking forward to that.

P.S. Now if she only knew that I'll have to get wick and wire soon.

I'm stuck using what i have on hand.
Friend gave me some 32 so i just redid the coil a tad and now it's only 4 wrap. 1.0-1.1.
Have plenty of 32 so I still have to make a braid when i get a chance.

Does the ss mesh aid in vaporizing more than other wick media? I mean, it is steel. Does the coil heat the surrounding mesh to increase vapor production (relative to glass or cotton or others)?

Not really. Actually you want as little heat transfer to the mesh as possible. The point of vapor occurs on the coil. That's why you want the coil to heat up quickly; so the wick doesn't have time to absorb the heat and disperse the energy back into the deck. This is exactly why sub-ohm coils work so well on genesis attys. Ideally the mesh acts as a wick and nothing more. The only thing that should get hot is the coil.

4 wraps of 32 is only giving you 1ohm? That must be a thin wick. What tank are you using?

Friend gave me more 32 which i already had but the coil i just did was with the 28 he also thru in.
Not wicking right though so I'm gonna redo it later or tomorrow.
I'm referring to my rsst..

Ahh, got it. You gotta join the cable wick clan.

Is it working that good? If you have a wick set up take a pic of how your running if possible.

I only use cable now in my gennys. All are 3/32 width, 304 stainless, 7x7 strand.

AGAT2 with braided silica sleeving as a "diaper" and 0.8mm Kanthal ribbon wire (2-3 wrap @ 0.7ohms).

RSST with mesh diaper and 28AWG Kanthal (3-4 wrap @ 0.9ohms).

The "diaper" is used to even out the surface of the wick so there is even contact with the wire. In the case with using the silica sleeving, the benefit is twofold: It eliminates shorts and/or hot spots, and keeps the cable from getting hot. It also absorbs excess liquid on the deck. It's my favorite setup of all. You can literally lay on the fire button as long as you want without the wick getting dry. AND NO TILTING!!

How do you implement the diaper. Braided onto the wire?

So I wrap it around the mesh? Completely? I been meaning to buy from kidney puncher so this works out.

It's hollow. You wet the silica so it doesn't fray, and slide a small piece over the wick like a sock. They have 1/16 size too, but it's too narrow for the 3/32 cable. I got a foot of both sizes to test them out. If you rolled your own wicks and made them narrow, 1/16 would work.
