I'm constantly reading about dead atty's, and atty problems. I would like to hear from only the folks who are not having atomizer issues in an effort to inform the people who are having trouble. Please mention type, length of usage, juice or no juice, proceedures, etc. The more information you list, the better it will be. I hope we'll se a pattern here. I'll start;

RN4081 and M401
Atomizers from Ruyan.
Heavy usage.
Using Auto batteries, and auto passthrough.
Atomizers last for months on both.
juice (Different Suppliers) 36mg cut 50 / 50 with VG.
I take gentle long drags.
Stop when I feel heat from the atomizer, and allow it to cool.
Refill cartridges when I see a decrease on vapor or sense a burnt taste.
I never clean or drain them.

I've been using the DSE901 for 6-7 weeks and have not lost an atomizer yet. Running 3 atomizers in rotation and switch minimum 2 times a day, when switching I will blow it out from the battery end and leave it to dry. They still perform just as well as when I got them. The juice running through them are mostly uncut 36mg, PG based. 50% of my vaping is with a 5v usb manual passthrough (homemade mod)

Manual batteries and passthrough
Attys seem to last about two weeks
36mg cut to 24 with VG
Long multi drags
I use two to three at all times a few drags and then use the next

I took apart an atty that failed in the same manner that all have. First the drag gets hard and a burning taste starts after only a few drags, top off only holds 3 drops or less at this point. I found one thread of wick under the bridge, the rest was wraped with a thin wire(about four strands) inside on a plastic insert. It was surprisingly clean except the ends of the strands that were burnt black. No great globs of crud like I have seen before on this forum but just a few crumbs of black specson the wire and plastic insert. I found no reason that it quit working , all connections were intact. What I did find was what looked like a buger formed in the middle blocking the center hole on the positive post. It was larger then the post and extended to the threaded area. It was either melted plastic, epoxy or melted wick. It was the obvious problem of the hard draw and could have caused some kind of burn out because of lack of air passage. I burned the wick with a lighter to try and identify what it was. It more dissappeared then melted and looked like an acrylic thread.

I have used 2 510's for 5 weeks, my wife 2 more.

one from ecigsales,1 eastmall
heavy vaping
juice from everywhere, mixed, stock, loranns, with vg, with pg,
No failures or reduced perfomance to report
I top off all day because I run it hard
wife tops off much less
If the draw gets hard I blow threw it both ways(mostly clear the 2 little holes) and sometimes a quick rinse and blow under the faucet and right back onto the battery)

they all vape great and are all still under 3.8 ohms...........2.8-3.1 being optimal
I only run one at time for a week or so
Now that I have more new ones, I will not rotate them in until these are dead

I've been a PV user for a little over two weeks, but here you go:

JOYE510
  • Atomizers from VaporStation
  • Heavy Usage
  • Using manual batteries (haven't touched my auto battery since day 2)
  • Occasionally use the passthrough, when I can find it among all the USB cables cluttering my desk.
  • Juice (various suppliers) 11-18mg, but mostly 11mg
  • Long, slow drags
  • Top up when flavor starts to wain
  • Routinely drip 1-2 drops of juice on the atty when topping up
  • Sometimes only drag once, then rest the PV for a few minutes; other times will only stop once the atty gets hot
  • New or freshly cleaned cartridge every other day
  • Use compressed air to clean atty, along with a gentle swab at the inside walls -- but ONLY if I'm going to using a different juice flavor and don't want some wonky flavor coming through.

I have two attys I tend to use most -- one for my "main" flavor, and one for those fun "Think of the Children!" flavors. No dead attys yet.

The only attys I've had go bad were due to user error and my being a noob to it all.

There are three of us that vape in my house. We use the DSE901 and we are really happy with them.

We each have one atty for "normal" flavors and one atty for things like menthol for my son, cinn for the nubby and sassafras for me. Those are the flavors you can't get out of them without cleaning.

At night, we blow out and drain the ones we have used, standing them battery side up with a cart attached so the juice goes back into the cartridge and is not wasted.

My husband and son are what I would call medium vapers and I am a very, very heavy vaper. If I'm awake, I'm vaping.

I started vaping first on April 10th. I'm on my 4th atty but that is just because I can be a real dumb@$$ sometimes. My atty for my sassafras is still going strong too. It doesn't get used near as much as my other one.

The hubby started vaping about a week after I did. He has only lost one atty and again, it was my fault.

My son started about 2 weeks after I did and hasn't had one go bad yet.
Every now and then I will clean them using a little lime juice, let them soak for about 10 minutes, then rinse with really hot water while holding with tongs. Blow out the excess water and let dry over night. Use about 3 drops of juice to prime and let set about 10 minutes before we use them. So far, so good on the atty front.

Had one that was bad out of the box -- never worked. (June 1)

My workhorse is a 401 from Litecig. I've got a VX2, but I don't use it as much -- I don't like the mouthpiece and I prefer carts with caps. I also have a Blu, but it gets used mostly when I'm out.

Liquid at this point: Eastmall, a couple of home-brews (some VG, but mostly PG since it doesn't bother me), Eliquid Planet (my preference) and Litecig.

Right now, I'm using 2 401 atomizers; the others are in a box, waiting.

When they arrive, they go into an ethanol bath -- 2 hours minimum. No agitation, just a soak. That gets rid of the primer fluid. Blow out with compressed air from our air compressor (we have a nail gun). Let them dry completely, then stored. I live in a dry climate -- they're not going to rust on me. (For someone who doesn't live in a dry climate, I'd probably say skip the bath until you need the atomizer.)

Daily use: I have one set-up that still uses a cart; the other, I'm dipping. This is an intentional experiment. I'm also (technically) trying to kill an atomizer, so I'm abusing them, testing limits (better to do this now while I'm learning). I do not blow them out at night. I do not rinse them, sometimes not even when I change flavors. (While I was waiting for the packages to arrive, I read this forum exhaustively...) Water never touches the atomizer. (This is me being a computer and hardware geek -- water will find a way to #$^k something up. Alcohol doesn't.) The coils stay moist all the time. I constantly top off / dip.

At night, both complete devices lay flat on my desk, in a ziploc bag to prevent evaporation.

So far... no dead atomizers. No finicky ones. When I finally bust one, I plan to dissect it, take photos and get it under the microscope.

I have a feeling that the poly-fill fiber might be a culprit; it does get burned off. This is why new cartridge's fill is a bigger lump than a used cartridge's fill. Cartridges, I've also noticed, require a firmer draw to produce the same amount of vapor. That would force the atomizer to be heated longer and possibly hotter. (I notice heat on my hand with the cartridge far more often than when dipping.)

801 and 901. Zi Moshi LV's and GG
Atomizers from Bestecig.
Heavy usage.
Zi Moshi LV's and GG. 3.7V - 6.0V
Atomizers last for months on both unless I get stupid with the 6V. Bought 25 801's a month ago. Still have 25.
Juice 48mg cut 40/40/20 with VG and flavor.
I take gentle long drags.
Stop when I feel heat from the atomizer, and allow it to cool.
Don't use cartridges I only drip
Just blow them out occasionally.

901's : Same 2 atomizers over the last 2 months, cut my liquid with shop bought Glycerine. I often 'burn' my atomizer to clean it or when I'm changin flavour, i.e. hold the button down so it glows, that's 5 volts @ 10 seconds. Vaping is a 3-4 second push. The two I lost in the early days; one was from soaking in coke, not sure how that happened since I've boiled one of my atomizers in water and it's still fine. The other was just a random death. I've got a shed load now thanks to TW's multi-packs and wouldn't bat an eye if one or many died. No cartridges, only dripping.

Hmm... I actually read the manual on my 510. It stated to blow out the atomizer and if it was really gunked up to use a drop of rubbing alcohol to clean it. It also said as a last resort you could run it under water but to allow it to dry before use. I'm not really sure how long mine will last but I am going by the manufacturers suggestions. I will let you know how it goes. But I can tell you this if I choose to use water...I am going with distilled and only as a its pretty much dead can I keep it alive for a little longer. All the crazy things I have heard about cleaning these things seem a little dangerous. We are talking about a tiny little wire that is constantly heating up and cooling down. It just takes the smallest bit of corrosion on the coil to cause it to burn out. Look at a lightbulb there is a reason why they encased it in glass and filled the bulb with a noble gas: To reduce the the chance the coil reacts with air or some other impurity. Plus it would be scary having a hot coil out in the open like that.

I got 3 901 attys and all had the burnt taste/smell within one week of use.. I only use for a couple of hours at night. I only drip and never use cartridges. I let them drain at night but I am having NO luck! My last atty only lasted 3 days before having that burnt taste.

I've tried boiling in water, soaking in cola, and even alcohol..
I drip on my 801 and it never has this problem..just my 901

I drip, no carts for me, they are just a loss of time, 2 drops in the atty and I'm good to go. 2 drops are around 15 puffs and equals 1 cig for me, that way I could keep track if I ever felt the need. RN4081's are used with regular bought juice (PG based).

I started with a RN4081 kit. It worked fine for 3 weeks with just blowing out the atty 1-2 times a week. It died and I learned the hard way how bad it is without an e-cig.
The same day I bought 10 attys and 4 batts (local and expensive) and ordered another 20 attys.
The next one I've tried died at once due to battery failure. So I lost at once a new batt and atty, these things happen.
The third I've cleaned every night with hot water and after 5 days it stank so badly that I couldn't use it.
I then used 2 more and rotated them. Every night I would clean the used one with hot water and leave to dry for a day. After 2 weeks both were stinking and could not be used.

I decided to try the burn method to get rid of the stinky gunk and it worked. I now burn them every now and then when I feel like it and keep them on until the wires can be distinctively seen and they are red hot. This way I cleaned the smell out of those 3 stinking attys. I had nothing to loose anyway at that time, now I burn them because the juice tastes better after burning the atty.
I've been using them for 2 more weeks without any problems now. I just blow the juice out when I remember. During the night they just stay connected to the batt on the table.

DSE901 came in the game around 3 weeks ago, I use it with a 3xAA Ni-MH nicostick mod for puffing 0 nic VG clear juice I bake myself (VG and clear PG based aroma). I also burn it once in a while (1/week at most). Because it runs hotter then RN4081 it's not my favourite. Still my VG juice seems to taste good only in the 901.
The 901 gets used in the evenings to taste great aromas.

I have both DSE901's and JOYE 510's. I have been using one atty of each for the past month and a half, only rotating when I feel the attys are getting really hot. I top off my carts, and occasionally put one drop onto the atty itself.

I have not tried cleaning my 901 yet, but I may tonight. I have cleaned my 510, and it made a difference in the draw. I cleaned it by just holding under the hot tap water, then blowing it out onto a paper towel.

I hope this remains to be the case!!

I do have one other 901 atty that I use only with my 6 volt mod, and that has been going strong for the same amount of time.

Same 901 atty(Eastmall) for 50 days. I use it alot(3 to 4 batteries a day). i learned from my awesome friend(ikenmoke) to soak an atomizer in EVERCLEAR. Obviously it works...50 days and counting:) Cannot wait for my Prodigy to see if 5volts will kill it:evil: By the way i bought 4 spares,so im not stretching it on purpose:p

I have also heard about the wonders of everclear. I'm gonna try to pick some up today. I'm trying to find out exactly what's going on with my two joye510 attys. I've had them for three full days. Atty 1 produces a good amount of vapor when puffed, but no throat hit and no vapor on exhaling. The flavor of the liquids (from both prefilled and liquid filled) do come thru nicely, but just no vapor once inhaled. Atty 2 is the exact opposite: I'm getting great vapor production, but the flavor of the liquid is being drowned out entirely by this very metallic taste/burning feeling in the back of my throat. It has never gone away for the past threedays. I haven't yet washed it so well see how it is after the everclear.
These 510 are hard for a newbie to keep up with. A lot of topping off or the metallic taste gets even stronger and harsher. Can't wait for my 801s and 601

I've never soaked or cleaned mine. They last for months. I do have to do a rinse every month or two to clean the cigar switches, just water, and that runs through the atomizer.

The only thing I've ever done is give them two shots of power after the first couple weeks of all day usage, and about once a week after that. With the cigar it's easy, while watching the atomizer, push the button until you see red then count to five. Repeat.

My m401, for the couple months I used it, same process but I'd blow on the LED end to power up the atomizer. That woke them back up after being wimpy. Never wore any out though.

I don't baby my atomizers at all. Big looong heavy drags ONLY. I run the carts till they are empty, when less vapor comes out and it's a bit hot. And they last a long time.

I don't know what I'm doing different than some, maybe it's just the burning off? I don't drip either, that could be a difference too.

Hope that helps.

RN4081, Npro/Njoy, for about 3 full weeks.
4 batteries/4 atomizers
Reuse carts and refill with regular Tobacco and Vanilla juice
I don't drip, haven't tried it yet.
Only had one atty go out, the first one that came with the kit. It worked fine, until it didn't then it just stopped working. Tried a new battery, etc. I cleaned it out, soaking with 50/50 hot water and hydrogen peroxide and blew dry with a hair dryer on low, shook it out, etc. It started working again and has worked since. They all seem to work about the same, and the draw is smooth. They heat up sometimes, and I let them cool for a minute.
