Somebody posted somewhere on the forum (without knowing what they were even talking about):

"The artificial vanilla flavor (often referred to as vanillin) is a benzaldehyde which some feel presents a health hazard, although there is debate on the matter. Safety (MSDS) data for vanillin"

The reason for the confusion is that what they were actually referring to is
ETHYL VANILLIN (3-ETHOXY-4-HYDROXY-BENZALDEHYDE).

If you search my own discussions about vanilla flavoring you'll discover that ethyl vanillin is actually what is used the the manufacture of our commercial e-liquids often in combination with some other form of a vanilla extractive.

They are all very dark liquid and appear to be the viscosity of normal nic juice. It also looks like the sugars are a no-no for vaping. Invertose and caramel.

INVERTOSE Corn syrup

Naturally, the discovery that high fructose corn syrup is used in the ones you've examined is disappointing. It would be nice to be able to find some justification to suggest that this and the caramel coloring in the amounts we would use would not present a significant problem for the atomizers but I doubt such justification could be substantiated. It seems that the only remaining options in this line of inquiry would be experimentation or alternately, investigation into the formulations of other flavors or brands to determine if any of them offer a more benign selection.

Ingredient lists are disclosed in order of predominance, thus the amount of invertose and caramel color in the formulations reviewed comprises a small proportion of the ingredients, although in an unknown quantity. This alone may not provide anyone sufficient justification to consider experimenting with the ones reviewed so far.

I have sent out several email inquiries to some of the vendors specifically addressing the question of whether, of any of the available brands, any of the formulations do not include these ingredients. Hopefully someone will be able to provide an informed response.

I got a response today that offers some promise and will try to get more specific information that is useful to us soon.

Hello Jeff,
We have a number of essences that contain neither of these ingredients. If you can give me an idea of what types of essences you are looking for I can respond more specifically.

Rick

Another vendor replied that there were no options, such ingredients were included in all their formulations.

Here's was my most recent reply from Brewhaus:

We offer nearly 200 different essences, so it would be best if you could check our website and let us know the specific styles that you would be interested in.

Rick

This was an interesting thread that petered out in April and, it appears, wegster attempted to revive in late May. I will now attempt to do so in late July.

Has anyone tried using these liqueur (and liquor) essences (e.g., from Brewhaus) in their DIY e-liquid?
  • Did it taste good? Did it vape?
  • Did you get drunk? Or did it blow up your e-cig?;)
Anyone (not only the original thread contributors) may chime in.

Hmmmmmm...2 years later, so either the answer to your first question is NO or the answer to your last question is YES! lol
