I prefer the tube over the box, but the length is over the specs.![]()
Wish there were some more regulated 14500/14650 mods around, but not many that I have found.
In the early 1960's, a consortium led by Bill Lear (of Lear Jet) set out to create The Greatest Practical Joke Man Has Ever Known.
The 8-track player they came up with proved to be a resounding success. These things would:
a. Change tracks in the middle of a song -
b. Could not be fast-forwarded or reversed -
c. The tapes ad an average lifespan of approximately 48 seconds, after which they would slow down and start to sound like the adults in a Peanuts cartoon.
And that's not all. Basically, they were simply terrible.
This success greatly angered the nation of China. China was bigger, stronger, older & wiser, yet they were not the ones to come up with this amazing trick on humanity. Since that day they have been focused on an even better practical joke. They've gone to great lengths, and dedicated a tremendous amount of resource, into finally upstaging the hallowed 8-track tapes & players.
Well, the king is finally dead (and love live the king!).
Ladies & gentlemen, I give you The Smowell. I don't even know where to start. Let's see....
OK - the battery compartment. The Allen screws are so tiny that one might require a microscope to remove and replace them. Plus, they don't even sit straight in! You've got to find the correct angle, then HOPE to get them in securely.
Build quality. Oh boy. I firmly believe that if I squeezed hard enough, in one hand, I can crush this thing. It's build like an old, cheap soda can from 1972 ("Tab" comes to mind).
The buttons rattle like a group of kindergarten kids with symbols.
It's a 25 dollar mod that I wouldn't pay 25 cents for (too late now, Bucko!). I'm sorry but the thing just plain bites.
How does it vape, you ask? HOW THE HECK WOULD I KNOW??? I couldn't even get the dang batteries inside.
Kat had originally nicknamed them, "Welly" because she wrestled with the enunciation of the idiotic name "Smowell". I agree, it's a tough-talk. I have now officially changed "Welly" to "Smelly".
And, before I put them up in the classies as a buy one, get one free ("Smelly BOGO Sale, IF YOU DARE!"), I must tip my cap to China. They won.

I can only promise the most honest ad you will ever see. If it sells, it will be (as Kat projected) some up for the challenge and possibly someone who wants to add a good chip or something.Worse than 8-Track? For those of us over 40, that says a lot. I'd feel bad PIFing them let alone selling them.![]()
And DavidOck, I think you misinterpreted my reference to it being a "resounding success." Do not separate that from the original point (practical joke).
Omigawd I had forgotten ALL ABOUT THAT!Nah, I was pretty sure that was sarcasm.
But you did find the only way you could rewind:

You found the undocumented bug, er, feature, for reverse - step a... A sharp whack on the dashboard would change back to the previous track, rewound for as long as you wait to pound the dash in frustration.
I was considering getting a Smelly Welly when I instead decided to be the Guinea pig for the Althea Smart-30. Glad I made the decision I did! Although the batteries are not replaceable, it is a solid little mod that lasted me 3 days (not exclusive use) before I needed to charge it. Build quality appears to be on par with the iSticks.
Still looking for an itty bitty with replaceable batteries. So far looks like the Clouper may win bit I am in no rush. I will wait to see what China comes out with after their big convention coming up.
Just ordered the "authentic" Clouper Mini 30 from FT, to round out an order of spare parts, and the replaceable battery option was important to me.
So maybe a review in 6 or 8 weeks
(Actually, my previous experiences with FT have been reasonable shipping times from China and customs. Not a quick as domestic, of course...)

Hi all
I beg to differ. I recently (couple weeks ago) got a Cloupor mini and a Smelly. Both are working excellently. No issues with either of them. Yes, the screws on the smelly are very small and either they or the supplied allen key are out of spec. I found an allen key which fits nicely and also discovered that a torx number 6 works as well. Some idiot on the production line used thread locker (the soft or temporary kind) on the threads which made the first battery install a pain in the ... No problems with them after the first time. Fit and finish is excellent considering the price. No rattles. The fire button is easy to feel/find with my thumb and has a very nice feel to it and is clicky enough but not too loud. The unit feels plenty substantial to me. I have no worries about mechanical damage. All that being said, the cloupor is the better unit and I won't be buying any more smellies. I just wanted to add a different opinion of the device to the thread.
8 tracks - yes the tapes wore out after awhile. No rewind was a minor annoyance for me. They beat the holy hel out of cassettes for sound quality with a working cartridge. Cassettes sounded like absolute crap in comparison. It would have been difficult to listen to vinyl on my motorcycle or in my car. I was very happy with them while they were available. And no cassette, ever, could do discrete quadrophonic. You have no idea how annoyed I was that quad never caught on. It was Amazing! I still have a quad 8 track player and a few tapes but haven't fired it up since the 80s.
Have a good one everybody.
One of the many reasons I have to NO plans to ever use anything rebuildable. Between eyesight and dexterity, it's just not for me.
I've had plenty of mods that I needed to use screwdrivers with, but this stupid thing is ridiculous.
You want 'em? BOGO, baby!!!! ;-)
I didn't say that. We can't talk about it here. Not that I expect anyone WOULD, given my "outstanding" review (cough).
Kat can confirm that I grabbed one of my iSticks, and emitted the words, "The iStick feels like a {X}ing Provari next to this thing."
Re: the Welly (love the nick). I have one and I, too, love it. Yes, the screws are a royal pain but I am a tool junkie as well as a PV addict. A 1.5mm allen head bit on a screwdriver and I was good to go after I found one of the screws in the carpet. I installed a 35 amp LG battery and will charge using the micro USB port so it was a one-tiime issue. Plan on using flat top batteries to help with getting the cover back on. This order took two weeks and I like it enough that I've ordered another.
I wanted something 18650 that is pocket friendly. I've been using vamo aluminum v5's in 18350 mode and had to change batteries too often. The Welly is about 1" shorter than the Vamo. I also wanted something at least 40 watts to fiddle with RTA building. I doubt I will sub ohm (too hot) but I can try some options.
I can't compare the Welly to high end/high watt mods because I won't spend enough to have one. $30 + or - is good for me.
I was thinking of sending DPLongo22 a Self Address, Pre-Paid, Priority Mail Flat Rate Box.
Ya Know, to save Him/Her 10 Bucks.
