I'm sure you are doing what you can to encourage her to try again. Do you have any spare equipment and/or eliquid that you can "loan" her to try?

My daughter's boyfriend, like us, is a former smoker. He was using disposables when he was hanging out with friends who still smoke. When my daughter and I moved up from cigalikes to Evods, we gave the boyfriend one of our cigalike kits and some eliquid. He was vaping in front of his grandfather, a long time smoker, and Grandpa expressed an interest in trying to quit smoking. We got an Evod setup for the boyfriend so that he could pass the cigalike kit, along with some eliquid, to Grandpa so he could see if he likes it - Grandpa thought he would rather have a cigalike for now, and we know that the cigalikes we were using are pretty decent.

Keep encouraging her, and steer her here, if you can. There are so many people here who will try to help her find the setup that is right for her.

Personally 'guide' her if you can. A new vaper coming to the ECF for info is like trying to take a sip of water from a fire hose!

Herb, it took me 3-1/2 years to finally put down cigarettes in lieu of a (IMO) safer habit. I started with cig-alikes in 2010. The batteries didn't last terribly long; the flavor cartridges tasted only moderately good - then they changed from using poly-fill to some crappy sponge that held the liquid. I tried again in 2011 (with same setup, but "newer" cartridges. Still same battery issue, less-than-adequate flavor. Fast forward to February 2014. ONE MORE TRY - however, blank cartridges with pre-bottled liquid. I could "mix" my own flavors (Apple Pie with Cinnamon or Caramel; Peach and Pineapple, etc.) Hey, this is not as yukky....

However, I STILL have a battery that won't last all the way on my drive to work - I normally would smoke 2 cigarettes from the time I left the house to the time I pulled into the parking lot at work. Plus, I was constantly having to refill my cartridges (and they didn't fit all that well in the cig-alike pack that carried the two batteries.) Now that I have liquids that are somewhat fun, let me upgrade to a bigger battery with this tank-thingy that sits on top. Hmmmmm, now, I don't have to refill as often, and the batteries work 3-5 times longer between charges.... NOW I'm getting somewhere....

FINALLY, I am rifling about on the internet, and I come across this strange website called e-cigarette-forum.com. And hey, someone in the forums posted about this Vape Shop - IN MY OWN TOWN?!?!?!?!?!?! Whoda thunk? I start reading more in this wonderful world, and even visit this mythical store that's down the street from my office. Oh my.... The place makes its own juices (to order) and has lots of gizmos and gadgets. Let me get one of those variable voltage batteries that lasts EVEN LONGER than my other ones (and tanks that are less prone to gurgling....)

Couple weeks later, I finally smoked my last cigarette. Just told myself that I wouldn't buy any more. I haven't missed cigarettes; I finally have found my viable smoking substitute - yes, I have an addiction, and yes, I have substituted cigarettes for something different. However, I breathe better, I smell better, I taste foods better, my car doesn't smell anymore, etc. Please tell your friend that if she REALLY wants to make this work, she can. There may be bumps, and less-than-adequate equipment choices along the way. But if she gets on this site, she can see so many other testimonies from so many folks who previously smoked (for many, many years) who have opted for vaping as a way to get away from all the nastiness of cigarettes.

I'm working on a couple of friends too. Hopefully, one day soon....

When I first tried to quit, I tried Blu e cigarettes, I didn't know better but I was miserable. I didn't get enough vapor, or throat hit and was still smoking. I knew their had to be a better way so I went to a shop and asked. I ended up getting a ego type which compared to those blu, was great this is when I quit. Then I stepped up my equipment and I am very much content making my own coils for my rba and using a dna 20 mod. I make my own juice now and I feel very happy with my vaping expirence. Thing is know their is a lot of choices out there and if one is not working for you then try another that will work for you. But you must be ready and willing to try. There are so many things to choose from out there. Find what she is looking for in particular and match that with a device that will satisfy. Hope this helps and best wishes.

I think i know what she and possibly her husband who still smokes analogs would be very happy with . They will most likely want something that is reliable , provides a great vape , is durable and requires no maintenance . I really don't think they have any interest in building their own coils or anything along those lines.

I should also say i do not think money will be an issue when it comes to finding something that works , these folks don't panhandle like i do (kidding) and spending the cash for a quality trouble free experience i doubt will be an issue.

I rarely recommend a Provari to new vaporers but it really does suit their style imo and her husband once told me "he who dies with the most toys wins" which tells me they like nice things.

As for a trouble free topper that provides great taste , will hold plenty of juice so she doesn't have to refill a couple times a day and has easy to replace head's i think maybe an Aerotank Mega .

Anyone else have some suggestions, of course she can just get an MVP like me but these folks are high end , meaning they don't haggle over a few bucks.

Must be nice

For a topper I recommend something pyrex but with something over it so breakage is not an issue. I don't have a Nautilus but there are other tanks for them with both glass and metal, easy to change coil, lots of fans. Aerotank has lots of fans too.

Thanks Paul , i was also thinking Nautilus .

I didn't expect vaping to actually work. At best, I thought it would help me cut down my smoking. Mostly, I'd tried quitting cigs many times without good results and I was just trying again. I spent around $125 on "day one", and I told myself "You don't have to quit, but you *have* to reduce your cigs enough to recoup that cost." I was smoking 3 packs a day or more, so if I cut out half my cigs in favor of vaping, it wouldn't take very long to recover that much cost.

That was 3 years ago, and for 2 and a half years, I've been off the cigs. It did take me some time to make the switch. Cutting down massively on the cigs wasn't hard, but getting off the last few a day was very difficult at first. Eventually, I learned that I needed some juice with a higher nic level, and the day I started using it, I quit smoking. I still had most of a carton, which I eventually gave away to friends.

I wouldn't have made it without the support of ECF. There is a sub-form for "Success stories", and reading those helped a lot. Any time I had a problem or a question, ECF was quick to answer.

So I agree with those above that suggest you try to get your friend to join ECF.

And I think that "I'll buy the cheapest gas station e-cig and see if all this works" is unlikely to work. I know it's helped some people, but percentages taken into account, I suspect that most who started trying to vape that way ended up thinking "Well, that was a waste of money, I'll not do that again". Decent equipment, the right juice, and support from ECF will make a big difference.

ECF is easy and cheap. Decent equipment (say an eGo twist setup with a Kanger protank) does have some up front costs. Juice is the hardest part, because you may need to do some trial and error. I recommend small bottles until you know what you like. You need a flavor you enjoy, which is easy for some people and harder for others. And you need the right nic level. When starting, I recommend experimenting with nic levels and buying juice in very small bottles.

Good luck.

Hmm... Provari would fit the bill for hassle free, but there's something to be said for things in a smaller form factor when discussing those who are just making the switch. I almost stuck the ego kit my mother got me in a cabinet to collect dust because i though THAT was too large. Curiosity got the better of me though, and I had to try it. Once I tried it, I was hooked. Add in the gadgets and gizmos and toys to but and fiddle with... This was right up my ally. Would it be possible to get them into a shop? Where they can hold them, see the sizes, etc..?
