Hello! I am looking for some advice before I buy an e-cigarette. My coworkers and I decided to quit smoking at the beginning of the month. I've been vaping the Blu disposables since then. I tried a couple other disposables but like the Blu the best out of what is sold in the gas stations around here. I'm thinking it's time to move on from the disposables though. I read a bunch of reviews and am a little unclear on a couple of things. I was thinking about getting the Halo G6 Starter Kit. If I get it with the Blank Cartridges, can I fill them with any e-liquid? I am assuming I can but I just want to make sure before I go buying stuff. Which e-liquid vendor is recommended for starters?
Thanks!

The Halo is a decent system.

This is another very good system, branded and sold by one of the most respected vendors in the business.

DV eGo-T Starter Kit - Stainless - 900mah

I wish I had found that setup when I was looking for an upgrade from Blu disposables. I spent too much and got too little.

I find it interesting though that Halo does'nt want any one to know the PG/VG percentages in their juices, seems a little stingy on thier part. Does anyone know what the ratios are?

This is part of the reason I didn't want to use their e-liquid and just wanted to get their e-cig and order e-liquid from somewhere else. I read good things about their system but it did seem a little shady that they don't give out the PG/VG percentages when I've seen so many other places do so.

Halo G6 and Smokeless Image Volt are probably the 2 most popular starters for cigalikes. I started with one but upgraded to a variable volt / evod setup within a week. My wife used her cigalike for about a month or so before doing the same thing. Some people simply prefer a cigalike and will use one for years. I posted a short list of pros and cons a month ago and dug up the post.

Get a very basic kit if you go that route. Chances of outgrowing it are pretty high. Perfect transition from regular cigs though for many. Just don't spend too much on a high end kit. 2-3 batts, usb charger, and 10 blank cartos and some juice is all you need to get going. Volts from Smokeless Imgage perform great for cigalikes. Lots of vapor in a little package.

One downside to 808's is the threading isn't compatible with the widely used 510/ego stuff (without adapters). Keep that in mind.

Positives:

small and stealthy
simple maintenance
close to the feel of the real thing
not expensive if you do your homework

Negatives:

Really short battery life (2-3 hours tops for moderate vaping)
So-so vapor production but not bad with a good cartro
Difficult to tell when you need to add juice
Small juice capacity so lots of refilling

Yeh, seems a little odd to hold that info back, especially considering some people have sensitivity issues with one or the other ingredients.

Yes, if the atomizing attachment can be refilled, you can use any liquid you like in it. Halo's devices are solid. Their liquids, some are decent, some are not. Remember, with liquids, taste is subjective, and unique to the user. Fruits and tobacco flavors are my prefered types, others can make me cringe like cinnamons, though a good tea flavor or creamy bakery flavor is a nice change up. You might like beverage flavors or something else. Best advice, try something that you think could spark your interest really well, check for vendors that offer sample packs to start, and look into a basic dripping atomizer for juice testing before commiting a flavor to a cartomizer or tank. Cig-alike systems are nice for being out and about and being stealthy, but most times have short legs, very low vaping time before you are swapping out a battery and putting the old one on to charge. Looking at one of the Halo systems, I'd suggest look at the Triton system, with the G6 as a backup system. You'll learn quickly in vaping, backups for your backups once committed, battery or atomizing device gives out, you always should have a fall back system until you can get the other replaced to keep you off tobacco, even if that backup initially is a disposable. Good luck on your own journey to freedom from tobacco.

I agree with IMF. Juice is the biggest wildcard. And the biggest money waster by far. I have a juice failbox with at least 25 bottles of juice in it that I will probably never touch again.

Always buy the smallest available quantity of a new juice. Never ever read reviews and automatically think you are going to like it. Sample packs are king. Lots of vendors do sample packs and those that don't, stick with 5-10mls tops of any new flavor.

Looking back I should have gone with the winder/evod combo first. Once I bought my first variable volt battery I basically stopped using my cigalike. It wasn't like the cigalike was bad or anything but it couldn't compete. But I'm still glad I did get the cigalike because every once in a while I load it with some high nic and can vape anywhere and not a single person will notice.

I too started out with blu, hated it though. I would suggest not to go the cig-a-like route. Most likely you will want something better later on. I have never tried Halo juice so i can't give you advice on that. I would suggest skipping their g6 system and instead get the itaste vv version 3.

You can get one at fasttech for $39.54 with free shipping. Their stuff usually takes a little over a week to get to me in NY.
$39.54 iTaste VW V3.0 7-in-1 Variable Voltage Rechargeable 800mAh Electronic Cigarettes Set - vv-3.0 at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

it comes with 5 tanks that are really easy to use and have worked great for me.

The device is variable voltage and wattage, this will allow you to tailor your vape to your liking.

It is also rechargeable via micro usb, so if you have a smart phone that uses that connection you already have charging cables, even though it comes with one.

I have 2 of these and they work very well as a on the go setup, very light and pocket friendly.

My personal opinion (if THAT'S worth anything) is I don't like the cartos. You will more then likely get this kit, then find one of the clearomizer tanks that you would like better. Then wish you did more research. But that's all personal preference. You may love your refillable cartos.

My advice. Look around at some desent web sites like DiscountVapers - Your source for savings on electronic cigarettes and accessories, Go-go eGo, vGo , or http://www.vaporbeast.com/# .

Do your homework.

Some people will lead you towards this site 3085 Electronic Cigarettes at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping . They are great place to look to find out what is out there, and their prices seem great, but some of their stuff is factory seconds and knock offs. So I would suggest you deal with a reputable dealer that sells the name brands until you get fimiliar with what is good and not so good from that last site. I'm not saying it's all junk. I'm just advising you that buyer beware.

Oh, and if you do like the clearos, look for a glass one. The plastic ones like the Evod are nice. But there are some juices you can't vape in them or the juice will erode the plastic. And if you do find a couple that you like, and have more questions, you can always come back into the forums and ask about them.

Happy Hunting.

I started about a month ago with cigalikes...Logic brand. No complaints, until I need new cartomizers. In this underpopulated part of the world, I couldn't find anything that fit the rn4801 battery. I went to the vendor's web site and wasn't happy with the prices. I did some quick searching and found a couple of very good online vendors with clones at half the price. I was happy with both vendors, themagicmist and easyvapors. Then I read lots of threads in this and other forums, and decided to upgrade to something that would last more than a few hours.

I have ordered variable voltage eGo batteries, protank II clearomizers and e-liquids from china, all good name brand stuff at low prices.
Unfortunately, the Hong Kong post office is, as of the day they got my package, x-raying and rejecting most lithium batteries and liquids!

I suggest you avoid Chinese vendors until that mess gets sorted out.

Personally, I would skip the cig-a-likes but that is just my opinion. Nothing wrong with traditional eGo batteries or kits either, but this is the kit I recommend to new people or people looking for the next step after a cig-a-like.

ElectronicStix.Com · Kanger EVOD 650mAh Starter Kit

650mah battery, regulated 3.7V (as opposed to 3.3V of traditional eGos), and a great clearomizer--the eVod. It's simple to clean, easily see your remaining juice level, and replaceable coil heads make this setup a no brainer to me. This kit includes everything you need, 2x batteries, 2x evods, 5x replacement coils (for a total of 7 coil heads), charger, wall wart...just need to buy some juice to go with it.

In my opinion the ego-like ecigs are ok as a start. But if we share the same tastes you can get tired of them pretty soon :D
So I wouldn't spend too much on them, even because you can find vendors that sell them very cheap.
After a while I'd rather get a BB. No need for an expensive one. For instance I really love to vape my Innokin iTaste SVD with a iClear 30 clearomizer. It's a chinese brand but they managed to build this one pretty good. The only downside is that it's huge :D

I appreciate everyone's suggestions. It seems like the general consensus is not to go with the cig-alikes, but I'm kind of leaning that way just for now. I'm better at working my way up to the big stuff than jumping in feet first. I hope I don't offend anyone by saying so. People seem to say that the Halo G6 is good for a cig-alike. Right now, that seems the easiest route to use while at work and not smoke cigarettes. Once I decide if I really like vaping for sure, I will probably get more into it and take a look at some of the better systems. I've read a bunch of stuff but I'm still not sure exactly what makes one kind better than another. Is it just that you have more control over your vaping with the variable voltage batteries and such?

Someone mentioned getting a basic atomizer for testing out e-liquids before committing them to a carto. Can someone give an example of such?

Thanks!

@ Randomnumbers18. Nothing is easier than going to a legitimate e-cig shop where you can actually see and try out devices before you buy from knowledgeable and experienced sales staff. You can also try out flavors of e-liquid before you buy.

You have a new vape shop in AltSmoke E-Cigarettes right there in Lexington. They have a full line of e-cig products, from cigalikes to eGo to mods. They also have over 100 flavors that you can sample in the store prior to purchasing them at their juice bar. I'm not affiliated with them, so this is not a shameless plug. AltSmoke has their flagship store here in Cincinnati and I visit it at least once a month for supplies or to just hang out with other vapors. Try it, you'll love it.
