So i've been using an ego for about 3 weeks. I'm a fan to say the least, but I run out of battery throughout the day and have to keep one charging. I work on a drilling rig and probably need something that will be strong enough to get dinged a time or two. I also want something that will last 12 hours on battery. My ego 650 makes it around 4-5 on a stressful day sometimes longer.

I'd like something maybe less expensive then a Provari but lemme know if that's what I should get anyway.

Thanks guys.

you could upgrade to a big battery mod...

there are a lot of VV mods that take 18650 sized batteries, but due to your work, they may get damaged... dropped in water causing a short, or enough of a hit, that the circuits could get damaged.
If you are willing to take the risk, there are many on the market to choose from, below the Provari Price point.

a rugged mechanical mod may be a good choice for you. (my preference)
a large variety coming from china, so you can pick them up for cheap. some complain on the build quality so that may be something to look out for, if you are worried about a long life of durability.
if you go to the scale for the better machined items, you will most likely be able to a buse them a bit more.

I think the mechanical stuff by Super-T Manufacturing can take a beating. But you are looking at the $200 range for a mod.
I had 3 of them at one point before i moved on. They are a quality item, that can take an unseen amount of abuse, quality steel is used for those suckers.
worth it for me, but due to the price it may not be worth it for you.

Precise+18650 is what i upgraded to from the eGo, and i havent looked back since.

Become a verified member and you will be able to pick up some quality stuff for cheap on the classifieds ;)

A 1300 mah battery should last a 12 hr shift, mine go 10 ~ 15 hrs between recharges depending on usage & resistance of delivery device.

Just me, I found out the hard way it is better to buy as high a mah rating as you can find inexpensive ego, kgo or go go to use while working, that way when not if it gets lost or destroyed you aint out much.
Twists & spinners are too delicate for me to use while working.

I can tell you from experience there is no such thing as an unbreakable submersible high heat shock vibration chemical & sweat resistant (aka extreme environment) ecig/pv/apv/mod.

I went from a kr808(aka POS ;) ) to an eGo, to an eGo twist, to my current device- The VAMO.

If the 650 isn't lasting long enough I strongly recommend you get a 1000mAh eGo twist.
I'm hesitant to recommend the vamo to you since you work on the rig, if you drop it one too many times there is a good chance it might get busted. But it is a very good device and well priced too.

Buzzkilla said a mechanical mod would be good and I can't agree more. Make sure you do your research and get a rugged one.

I just upgraded from the ego to the provari, and am waiting for it to be delivered. After all the research I did, I decided to make to provari dive early and hopefully avoid the long expensive path that ultimately leads to the provari. Lol! But I don't care about VW, so it was a no brainer once I brought it into prospective that the provari was only equalivent to ONE months worth of analogs for me. After I thought about that I added it to my cart lol!

well I treat my equipment good and If I think I'll be outside swinging a sledge or jumpin down in a pit of mud then I'll run and put it in the doghouse. I'm the Derrickhand so i'm not on the floor much. Most the time I'm in the mudhouse mixing chemicals or high up in the derrick tripping pipe. When I'm in the derrick I keep it tied off to the handrail and just puff on it when I get the chance. I like the APV's like the Vamo and the Lavatube and whatnot just dont know which to get. I may get a good mech specifically for when I'm at work and maybe a vamo for the drive/motel/home times.

The legacy also gets good reviews and is one of the less expensive "high end" mech mods. LEGACY [USA]

For a vv device the ProVari really is top of the line, I've had a few of the lower cost vv & vw devices and they just don't measure up. One died falling from waist high on to a linoleum kitchen floor, it was the first time it had been dropped.

I would say a silver bullet for durability or if you're a fan of the ego, then get a 1300mah vision spinner. You can get either at Altsmoke.

The spinner will be more of what you're used to, but a tiny bit fatter with VV capability. The silver bullet uses replaceable 18650 batteries and is much beefier. The silver bullet should last you years. The spinner like all China made devices could last a long time or could crap out after a month. Oh then there's price. The spinner is about $25. The Silver Bullet will be over $100 after batteries and a charger assuming you don't already have any of that stuff.

So far im leaning towards the silver bullet for work. And maybe once im caught up on money a bit the provari for leisurely use at home and in the car. I want a vv to play with at hone so ill probably get the SB since everyone says its pretty durable. I like the egos but also want a bigger device so it sounds like SB might be the way to go

There's also always the oyetech eGo-T Upgrade 18650 Battery MOD :) See: JoyeTech eGo Monster Battery (2600mAh) - Complete Battery Unit
