Hi there,

I am new to the whole e cig thing (I've only been researching for about a week) and I have a rather specific question.

What would you suggest for someone new to e cigs who a) only needs a puff or two at a time (but has about 10 smokes in a day) b) would like to be able to find reasonably priced blank cartridges for whichever model i buy c) has a smaller budget and d) has a very weak left hand (i know that this will make filling certain lengths of carts a challenge, hence why i need the specific help)

TIA

I'm pretty new to vaping too.
I started late November 2009.
I'm not sure what you mean by a "weak" left hand.
Do you have proper control? Or do you have dexterity issues as well?
If I were you I'd research M401 (includes M402, M403). These look exactly like an analog.
There's a little cartridge in the "Filter" part that you fill with juice. It's not hard to fill but a steady hand helps. But I'm sure you could get the hang of it.

Another I would look at is a KR808-D1. These are two part systems where the cartridge and the atomizer are the same piece. You can get prefilled "Cartomizers" and not even worry about filling them.

And finally the 510 series. I don't have one but they're one of the most popular e cig styles and they too look a lot like a traditional cigarette.

Anyway, hope that helps.

Welcome to the forum! :)

I'd suggest you look into the KR8 (aka KR808D-1, KR808d-1, KR808, Vapor King, or Ace).
It's a simple two-piece model with just a battery and cartomizer (a unit that has both the cartridge wick and atomizer built in). You can buy cartomizers prefilled, refill them with eliquid if you want to save money, or buy blanks and fill/refill your own.

It's also got the longest battery life of all the analog-shaped PVs as far as I know (regular KR8 batteries are 280mah, XL or "mega" KR8 batts are 380mah...I love the XLs).

One of the reasons I think you'd like the KR8 is the fact that the all-in-one cartomizer unit is less mess to just puff now and then, in my experience. If I'm driving and just need to take a few drags occasionally, I can set down the unit for a good while and it won't leak or get the liquid flooding into the atomizer. (With the three-piece models, you start dealing with cleaning the atomizer, changing the filler, etc. too.) Just my experience...you'll get plenty of varying opinions here, of course.

There are a lot of KR8 users here to help out with questions, and lot of vendors to do comparison shopping. You can get a good starter kit for $40-50, plus some for extra cartomizers (a good idea - though once you get to buying eliquid you have to shop around a bit because they vary so much).
Good places you can get starter kits for KR8s...I'm sure I'm leaving some out, but off the top of my head:
Vapor4Life (called the "Vapor King" there; they have the biggest flavor selection of prefilled cartomizers - and they do ship to Canada I know)
PureSmoker (they call cartomizers "Atomz")
Nhaler (great eliquids, available in sample sizes ... I don't think he does int'l shipping though)

Each of these suppliers has a supplier subforum if you scroll down in the front page of the forum, so you can ask questions or check out what people are saying about the business. Most of them have an ECF-exclusive coupon code you can find in their subforum, too.

I've heard amazing stuff about Shawn at litecig ever since i've joined the forums.

Another excellent supplier that i've personally stuck with for more than a year is www.absolutelyecigs.com

Definitely the best stocked for everything Mseries. Prices are good especially for the bulk items and the best CS one can receive.

I definitely second Madame P's opinion. Long lasting, easy to use and compact.

I would throw www.vaporkings.com in there for a reliable supplier also.

Hey ames, welcome to ECF!

I'd recommend a Kr808 as well. Honestly, I don't think you want to be fiddling with the M401. It's quite a challenge to refill the carts because they're small and recessed, and dripping sounds like something you won't want to get into.

A two-piece system is what you want. There are 2 really easy ways to refill them - this is what I do with my Kr808.

I think the easiest for you would be to drip into the hole on the battery end of the cartomizer. 20 drops to fill a blank, and 12 to refill. Drip 4 drops, then shake it a bit to get it to settle. Drip 4, shake, etc. Only requires one hand, which either is dripping, or shaking the carto.

The other way is called the condom method. The cartomizers come with a rubber stopper on each end, one of which has a prong in the middle. You use the one with no prong, set it on the table with the open end up, and drop 20 drops for a blank carto, or 12 to refill a carto.

Then, you slowly push the cartomizer into it, and it will suck up the liquid. If you see it start to bubble out the other end, stop.

Shake it a bit and there ya go. Some people recommend waiting a few minutes - I don't do that. I just use it after shaking.

I don't get any leakage when I put mine in my pocket or set it down or whatever. A full cartomizer will last me for about 4 hours of medium-heavy vaping. It is possible to mod them and get all tricky, but you really don't have to. The 2-piece system is designed to be simple, and sort of "get up and go."

A pack of 5 blank cartos will cost you $6-$8, and each can be refilled several times. If you want, they can even be washed after several re-fills, and then refilled a few more times. Some people get over 20 uses out of each one.

A Kr808 starter kit costs $35 at ElectroNicStix.com, which is where I got mine. Really great customer service and fast shipping - they're great.

They also sell "hybrid" kits, with one automatic battery and one manual (which means you press a button to activate it). You can see which one is easier for you, and then order another battery of whatever you prefer, auto or manual (about 10 bucks), since it's always good to have a spare anyway.

I'd also buy an additional pack of 5 cartos with it.

Good luck!
