I currently have a Revenger X and am getting fed up with prebuilt coils, so i'm looking to start making my own. I was also thinking of starting squonking at the same time, but I didn't know where to start there. Have been considering the Pulse 80W with the Drop, but my main concern is if my Samsung 18650 25R batteries would work in it. Also for squonk mods can you use other types of atomizers or is it only for ones with a squonk pen? And would that even be a good build to go for? Lastly, I would really like some recs for places to buy stuff like a coil building kit, fused clapton, and cotton (and recommendations for specific kinds of cotton would be great).

The Pulse 80W is a great mod. I have one and love it. It accepts 18650 batteries and ships with an adapter. But battery life will suffer if you use it over 30-ish Watts.

It will also fire your existing 510 threaded tanks, but what's the fun in that? ;)

You probably don't need a big coil building "kit." You won't use half the stuff in it. You can use your mod to test resistance and the necessary tools are at your local hardware store. A kit is useful but NOT a necessity.

What would you say are the necessities? Also what batteries should I get if i'm wanting to use the Drop and have a decent battery life? I had 30A 20700's recommended but I don't think my Nitecore D2 will charge them. I guess I could try going with a single coil RDA since its a single battery mod, but I have no idea where to even begin with those.

I would start here:

Liquid Feed APV Discussion

...and here:

RDA

Plenty of answers to your questions.

I have several Pulse mods and use both 18650 and 20700 batteries. The performance will be the same with the same mAh rated batteries. In other words, any 3000mAh battery whether 18650 or 20700 will perform the same with regards to battery life. The difference will be in the max discharge rate in amps, which is most critical on a mechanical mod. With the Pulse 80 as long as you use a genuine, high-quality battery from a trusted supplier, you should be OK. I use LG HG2 18650 or Ijoy 5-leg 20700 batteries in mine.

I only use single-coil RDAs on my Pulse mods, usually built with stainless steel clapton or fused clapton wire. Two of my favorite RDAs are the Pulse 22 and Nudge 22. For single wire coils I like the Hadaly which is no longer available, unless you used, or buy a clone.

As far as necessities, that varies from person to person but if you make your own coils, I would get a Kuro Koiler jig from ebay for a few bucks to wind your coils. You will obviously need wire (or pre-made coils), wire clippers/cutters, wicking material, and a small pair of sharp scissors to trim your wick. Tweezers are nice for pulling used wicks and squeezing new coils.

If you are wanting to use a dual coil RDA such as the drop, I would suggest a dual battery squonk mod. It would let you go up in the wattage high enough to fire the dual coils and not put too much strain on the batteries, and give you enough battery life that it will not be swapping batteries constantly. There are a few options for dual battery regulated squonk mods like the gbox, or the rage mod.

Since making this post I have pretty much decided on getting the Recurve instead. Seems to pair really well with it and i've only heard good things about it. A dual battery with the Drop is tempting too, but I don't have the budget for a Rage and am not sure how good the Gbox is.

SKUONKER MODS use dripping atomizers. Basically any dripper or atomizer that can be fitted with a squonk pin can be use on a Squonk box.. in addition to nearly every other 510 based atty made.

See the only difference between a squonker and non squonk mod is where the juice is carried.... pocket vs mod.

My list of necessities:
  • Any stick close to the diameter you want to build. The shank of a 1/8" drill bit works for 3mm, for example.
  • Any tweezers, but el cheapo ceramics are good because they're non-conductive.
  • Any pair of small, sharp scissors.
  • A set of precision screwdrivers. I use a set from the dollar store. RDAs usually come with a screwdriver or Allen tool. You will have 6,328 of them before you know it.
  • Any pair of small cutters. A pair of nail clippers can work. I use these:
Plato 170 Wire Cutter / Snip Tool

I use Samsung 25R, 30Q 18650 and Vapcell Gold 20700 batteries in my Pulse 80W. I usually use the 25R for single coil devices and either the 30Q or Vapcell for the dual coil Pulse 24 and Nudge 24.

I own the gbox and it's an excellent regulated dual battery squonk imo, even dropped that thing 3 times still functions as new (although the pretty paint is all scratched up :( )

If you're planning on using claptons in dual coil fashion the pulse will probably not be enough since it's 80 watts and claptons need alot of power to function well.
But hey iat the end of the day you do whatever works for you :p

Do you think i'd be able to run a single coil RDA with quad core fused clapton on a single Samsung 18650 20S 30amp battery? Or would that also not have enough power.

30gx4/40g, 6 wraps, 3.5mm, 316L SS. Most likely would only go up to 60/65w max, usually staying around 40-50.
Should work fine for a few hours, I don't think you would get a full day/ full bottle of use from just a single cell.
A spare is easy to carry.
Just to muddy the waters...The Hotcig RSQ is a great little 18650 only device. Solid build and hand feel. No rattles and not plastic. I don't TC but bypass and power modes seem to work perfectly.

Cheers

I could try getting a 20700 if that would help a bit, I just didn't want to buy an entirely new charger for one. Only a few hours sounds pretty rough. The RSQ looks nice but isn't as budget friendly as the Pulse, which is pretty important for me right now.

Buying a new cell size was not in my budget, but a 20700 (21700 with a bit of dremeling) cell will give you more usable life.

I felt the same way and was ready to buy the pulse 80, until I held them both.
Coming from a REO; the build quality, fit and finish of the RSQ won me over.

Cheers

There are a few new dual battery coming out, but then again, they would be new, so getting to know how good they are would probably be a month of online reviews and personal experiences. I ordered a GBOX for the Independence Day sale. I heard its bottle is a little weird and its TC modes not that great. But as long as it lasts me a day, i dont mind that much. And I threw in a Wasp Nano along with it. Coz i heard good stuff about the RDA. Heck, if its crap it doesn't matter, its barely $14.

I can compromise on the vape quality a little bit which anyways more depends on RDA, but I cant compromise on the battery life! The kind of guy i am, if i carry around batteries, I would lose them in more or less a month.
