Hey guys, I'm new here (about 30 seconds), and I've been meaning to get into vaping now for a while. I'm in the process of quitting smoking cigarettes (smoked the black pack of the Nat. spirits for about 8 months... I know that's not long at all really, but this will only get worse if I keep doing what I'm doing), so I'm looking for another alternative.

I'd prefer a vape with high nicotine and flavor, if possible. Where do I begin though? Do I simply buy a pen, then e-juice, fill up the pen, then start vaping? Or do I need to start somewhere else?

Thanks

Is there a vape shop anywhere near you? That would be ideal.....you can go in and check things out. You have the right idea....buy a pen (or a basic kit of some sort), get some juice, then go for it. It can get more complicated as you go along because there are so many options and you will gradually figure out some preferences, but we all had to start somewhere. www.vaporkings.com is where I started. check out their starter kits.

Welcome to the forum! I would recommend the Innokin Endura, as it's aimed at beginners and is designed to suit new vapers - higher nic levels usually means you'll be using heavier PG based e-liquid - which allows for more flavour than VG based in broad terms - which also means smaller clouds - but it's getting you past that initial stage that is important - you may decide later that you to change your vaping style, but finding something that keeps you off the stinkies is crucial - make sure you also have a backup - for times when one device is charging - and Good luck!

Thanks everyone!

The Evod kit definitely looks suitable for me, I'll look more into it! I'll also explore the Innokin as well

Both good places to start.

Just beware (if your search leads you to all sorts of online shops) many of us got taken for a lot of money by certain brands.

Kanger (Evod) and Innokin are Chinese hardware. There are not so friendly shops all around the world that will take this hardware, get the items 'logo'd up' with some fancy marketing and BS reviews and then charge you $119 for a $29 e-cigarette.

I was into $800 before I realized how the industry operates. Please be careful.
If a store appears to not be selling Innokin, Kanger, Aspire, Eleaf etc, then get out of there.
And when you do see something made by these vaping companies, then double-check the prices.

*Personally* I'd go with the Innokin Endura. It's more modern than the Evod kit. :)

Welcome and congratulations on your decision to put the smokes down and give vaping a try.

You've gotten some great advice from everyone. The Kanger Evod kit is nice because it comes with two devices so one can charge while you vape the other one. The Endura kit is fantastic too and even though it's just the one device, you can vape it while it is charging! The Evod kit comes with 5 coils which is wonderful because freebies are good. The Endura kit comes with two coils, but the coils that go with it, the Innokin Prism coils are inexpensive and widely available.

My feeling is that the Endura will be more satisfying to you, but I think that Evod kit is one heck of a great deal and will certainly do the job as well.

I suggest that you don't worry too much about not smoking while you are figuring out which vape gear is right for you. I continued smoking after I began vaping for a while until I understood enough about vaping and what I liked that it could totally replace my analog cigs. I don't smoke at all anymore because I prefer vaping to smoking any day.

Please let us know if you have questions or problems because there are always people here who want to help!!

I notice that the Double Evod kit is under $30.

That is great.:thumb:

*afterthought*

It makes it even more shameful that an American 'brand' e-cigarette was charging $119 for one.

The same brand that gets all the 5* reviews on all the fake review websites.
The same fake review websites that think they own the e-cigarette industry.
The same online 'magazines' that portray themselves as friends of vapers and vaping.

*end of afterthought*

:D

Where do you start...hmmm.. preferably at the mouthpiece ;)
(Other end doesn't vape so good)

50 greenbacks is ample to dip your toe in
Decent starter kit should contain 2 batteries, 2 atomizers, USB-charger- Some even have a wallplug for the charger tossed in for good measure. Evod, Evod Glass, iclear 16 ...
Think subohm kit can be had for that kind of moenywith coupon codes or sales going on...

Software (aka e-liquids ) - price range varies wildly...

Youtube clips for the how-to's and yer good to go.

Biggest risk of vaping : shinyitis

2 years and a few months ago I started with a $20 investment, a $15 vape pen and 5 bucks worth of 18mg liquid. Immediately my cigs declined from 25 to 5 with no effort. On the third day I smoked zero cigs and didn't realize it until the 4th day. That was enough for me. i went to a vape shop and got a Nautilus mini and, basically, an iStick 20 watt.6 weeks later I was not a smoker any more. I like starting cheap because then there's less pressure. All the first rig has to do is demonstrate that vaping might work for you. Don't be talked into low nic liquid. There's time for that later.

Then (what i advise is) don't worry about quitting smoking. Have a cig when ever you want one BUT vape and vape and vape some more. If you never stop vaping eventually you will stop smoking. It took me some weeks to adjust to vaping, fiigure out devices and liquid and my body did some complaining along the way but now I find vaping is a superior experience. I'm immune to relapsing to cigarettess. That's the prize.

Vaperking prices looked a little high to me. I also recommended the evod starter kit good placer to start. As with most things you need a baseline. But remember it is a starter kit use for a little bit then come back here and say what you like and what you don't like and the good people here will steer you in the right direction.

Let's see shall we.

Aspire Platinum subohm starter kit. Was *supposedly* $110. Now *only* $99.95 representing an *instant saving* of $10.05.

Currently on sale elsewhere all over America for $59 or less.

The question has been answered. Fake sale prices are the lowest of the low. Poor show from that company.

Hi & welcome Franzich
Only problems with the tube style kits is that the battery is a built in so if it goes then so does the kit. While these kits have safety protection built in what they are missing is the ability to vary the power to the atomizer and that ability allows you to customize the vapor/taste produced. The batteries in them usually will not get through a full day of vaping. Finally if you do decide vaping is the way to go that tube kit won't upgrade easily. So consider spending your $50 on something like Smok's H-Priv kit with the Brit Beast, or Eleaf's Pico Dual, or Vapresso's Target Mini, and there are more in that range, though be forewarned that batteries are separate and good authentic ones will run about $6 each.

Welcome and glad you joined. The taste of the eliquid and nic content are pretty dependent on the sensitivity of your taste buds. Equipment play a secondary roll.
Since vaping is totally scalable, the choice you have can be overwhelming. For now all one would need to really know is you are going to utilize 3 components.
Battery(s)
Atomizer
E-Liquid
What you will need to study, is the different types of atomizers and how they perform.
The battery can be pretty much dictated by the type of atomizer.
Best advice I can give is start simple and try to learn every basic part of vaping, then step up to advance ways of vape. Some folks inadvertently sell the novice advanced equipment which multiplies vaping complexities. The poor learner is flooded with too many variables and never gets the basics down pat. It helps to know what you want (which direction you want to head towards) before you make a decision you might regret after a purchase.
E-Liquid may be the easiest component to tie down.
Might want to do non sub-ohm first (Over 1 ohms, pretty much uses the same equipment, the coil/wick is built different). You will get great flavor but the cloud production is not as intense as you can produce with sub ohm'g.
Could look into the pros and cons of sub ohm'g vs non sub ohm'g before you decide which way you want to go. Some folks jump right into sub ohm'g without looking at the hidden ramifications.Successful sub ohm'rs tend to know the ins and outs of vaping. That's why sub ohm'g is tagged as advanced vaping.

If your looking to quit smoking with a ego pen and clearo, evod or protank (1.5 to 2.5ohm) then 24 to kick the ciggys then go to 18 IMO within the first couple months.
If you looking into getting a mod box and a fancy atty like subtanks that are lower ohm.8 -1.4 then I would start at maybe 12 nic since your using a far better delivery system then ego pens.
Plan on going all the way with subohm atty or drippers then I would start at 9 then as your body tells you to start cutting down the nic to a level your happy with. My body told me with feeling nauseous and getting pin point headaches between the eyes that my nic level was too high and time to cut down, thats the greatness of DIY is I can cut my nic down as I please.

Starter Kits gives a pretty good list, not complete but not overwhelming:
The Kanger Topbox (and Subox) are often recommended now, it gives the biggest vapor of anything on this page, kind of loose draw, great deal since it includes a rebuildable deck as well as using their premade coils.
The CE5+ is a pen that looks like what you'll see a lot of locally at tobacco shops and most vape shops. The CE4 is similar with has top visible wicks and has wicking issues while a lot of cheap CE5 clones will leak and spit. They work but are the bottom barrel and I've considered some vape shops carry them to "prove" you need bigger (no) and better (yes) . This one, however, is at least super cheap! I was drawn to the see-through aspect of these but while you can see inside you can't do anything about it sucking.
The next CE5+ includes a Twist battery (adjustable), the main advantage here is probably you can turn it *down* compared to the previous but this battery could be of use long after the tank that comes with it (for example, they also sell really cheap generic EVOD tanks).
The EMOW kit is kind of high for what it is, may be nice but I had poor experience with the related Aerotank.
The EVOD 2 and EVOD kits are both 2 unit kits, I like the original version better, more flavor, but the 2 does have a cleaner flavor and makes more vapor (slightly).
The Pangu is just one of many recent compact, high output style oversize pen shaped vapes. Cheaper and smaller than the Topbox but less controllable.

They don't show there the Endura 18, which is definitely one of the best small tanks although I might prefer an adjustable battery with it. Some other good starter tanks are the GS Air and the Nautilus Mini.
