Hi everyone. I want to quit smoking. I've read up more than I can understand the past week or so, and I'm still confused about which way to go. I don't know anyone who vapes, and the one store (other than gas stations and Walgreen's) that sells stuff wasn't any help. He's a tobacco shop with 2 starter kits - V2 I think and another that escapes my memory. He's a bit of a douche and said "Just buy the V2 kit." Asked him what common complaints were, and he replied "Everyone .....es about everything I sell."

I talked to a guy on the street who was using Blus. He showed me the starter kit and how it worked. Only person I've ever seen vape. He said he carries disposable Blus too, because they're stronger and vape better. He uses them when he needs an extra kick. I like the form - charging pack, extra battery, etc. seems like a perfect solution. Then I read here and another forum that Blu isn't really anything anyone sticks with.

I tried an njoy OneJoy disposable and Blu disposable. The nJoy really sucked. Or should I say I sucked really hard and pretty much nothing came out. The Blu was acceptable, I guess. Didn't taste much of anything on the inhale, only a little bit of peppermint after taste after exhaling (menthol flavor). Didn't feel anything on the inhale, but exhaled almost enough vapor. If Blu disposables were the only thing out there I guess I could switch, but it would be a struggle.

I'm trying to sift through what's out there, so here's my background info...
I've smoked for about 20 years (time flies!)
I smoke American Spirit Menthols - if you don't know them, they're a heavy and strong cig. Switched from Newports, which now taste like ammonia and peppermint flavored air to me
I smoke about 15 cigs on an average day, if I have to buy Newports, I'll smoke a couple more than a pack
I work in a field where smoking is a huge no-no - college athletics, so what I get has to be discrete - I won't charge it at work
I don't need it to look and feel like a cigarette, but no bigger than a sharpie marker
I don't want to fiddle with liquids and other parts, so pre-filled is the way I'll go
It has to work mechanically - I know I'll end up tossing it if there's constant battery problems, dripping, etc.

I think I covered the most important stuff. I've been looking at the eGo stuff at ecig.com and myvaporstore.com. Is there a difference between the eGo stuff at ecigstore and myvaporstore? One says Joye, the other doesn't.

With the eGo stuff, I can't tell what's what - eGo-T, C, etc.

Are the eGo models about sharpie size, or am I way off? I think there are portable charging packs like Blu has for the eGo batteries. Any good?
I'm throwing eGo out there because that's what seems to get recommended a lot, and I think people move up to them after stuff like Blu. If I can skip a step and start past the stuff that most people use for a few months at best, I'll be ahead of the curve.

I appreciate any help at all. I'm just trying to make sense of what's what. The more I read descriptions on sellers' websites, the more confused I get.

hello and welcome :) glad your wanting to try to stop and hope you succeed :) in my case i stumbled across a cig type from green smart living (menthol) used those for awhile then changed to ego/clearomizer........its more cost effective for me , plus more choices in flavors
ego batteries are long lasting and you can get a kit for around 15 (ivape, myfreedomsmokes) there are alot of good vendors and great people here.....i mix a little menthol in almost all my cleaomizers..(drip bottles are great in my case) im still learning ........they have alot of menthol tobacco flavors, hang in there until you find what you like the taste of :)
take it a day at a time............and come back here often.people here are so helpful :)

Although there are plenty of people who have quit smoking with the cigarette-sized batteries, and some who still use them regularly, I sincerely believe that most of those people soon advance on to the larger eGo size batteries. Hence, you'll find many here who recommend skipping the cigalike stage altogether if your first setup doesn't have to look or be the size of a cigarette.

The main reason is the the cigalike batteries only last 3-4 hours between battery charges, so you end up having to carry a few with you to last an entire day if you aren't able to charge them while away from home. This gets to be a pain and an inconvenience. Vaping is much more time consuming that just smoking cigarettes...it takes planning and insuring you always have a charged battery and e-juice on hand.

The shortest eGo batteries will last at least 6 hours between charges, so they are much more convenient and a better choice. In addition, being a larger diameter they offer more variety in the "toppers" or juice carrying devices which actually hold the juice and produce the vapor.

Battery duration is expressed in "mah". 100 mah is equal to 1 hour battery duration. So, a 600 mah battery can be expected to last 6 hours in normal use. Ego batteries will last 6 to 13 hours depending upon the length of the battery.

Above see the size comparison between a cigarette, two cigalike batteries, and three sizes of eGo type batteries. The second pic is of a shorter eGo battery with a mini Vivi Nova tank.

Below is a frequently recommended eGo setup with juice delivery carrier suggestions, along with a demo video. I frequently recommend starting out with a Twist or Spinner eGo which offers variable voltage, which simply provides the option to adjust the voltage to heat the juice depending upon the particular flavor you are using, for better results.

You will need at minimum two batteries. You'll need a battery to use while the other is charging, and you always need a backup in case your primary breaks down. (You don't want a reason to buy a pack of smokes while waiting for a battery to recharge - been there, done that.) You'll need the appropriate eGo battery, and and optional usb/wall adaptor for charging when not near a computer port.

After that, you'll need juice delivery devices (generally at least two types to judge which best suits your style) and some nicotine e-juice. Most people consume 3 - 6 ml daily. A pack a day smoker is recommended to start out using 24mg nicotine strength. Someone who smoked less could start out with a weaker strength, ie 18mg strength. I'd get 2 - 3 different flavors at a minimum to begin with. You'll continue to experiment with new flavors for as long as you vape. Just know that you'll never find a flavor that "tastes like a cigarette" - it doesn't exist.

I was in the same situation a year and a half ago. I haven't seen another vaper in the wild. I took a chance on an ad I saw on the internet and tried the v2. The batteries are 808 threading which isn't the most popular and need to be charged several times a day if you are a heavy smoker. They are way more expensive with prefilled cartos. It can be done and it takes some trial and error in the beginning. This forum will be the biggest help. Just ask any question and someone here will be able to help. It really is amazing. The best bet is to order the equip you want to try over the internet as it's cheaper in the long run. Read then read some more here.

Welcome to the forum. try reading http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...06-4-good-starters-setup-beginning-vapor.html . Good info there and not too technical or confusing. The eGo twists or Kanger spinners with a charger are good to start with. Get a few Kanger T3 or MT3s and a Vision Mini Vivi Nova. Get a sample pack of some juice from MtBaker or another reliable vender with flavors you think you'd like. That's all it takes to get started. Good luck quitting.

Don't make the rookie mistake I and most rookies made. Those tiny cig-a-like is not going to do it for you unless you are a really light smoker. I know, almost every rookie, myself included, has this idea that a e-cig should look like a cigarette and can't imagine yourself lugging around a big old cigar size device around, not to mention those "weird" looking mods. It's very understandable. I smoked American Spirit (yellow) also. I started off with the Blu which sucks big time. Then the Vapor4Life which are much better but still not doing it for me. Then the eGo-C Twist with Kanger eVod tank. That's good. Still using this but I am learning about the more advanced stuffs and probably will move on to those later. I think the eGo-C Twist is a good way to start b/c it performs well and it's not expensive at all, so even if you end up not liking it, it won't hurt much. I also get the eCab as my "out and about" device. It's bigger than a cig-a-like, though not by too much, and still is stylish and small enough to carry around. And it perform well for what it is. This setup works very well for me, I just wish that I had started off with this instead of wasting a bunch of money on other kits.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Much appreciated. I'm pretty sure I'm set on an eGo battery.

I've read/watched the links provided, and looked at other ones too. I'm still a bit confused about the delivery devices/types. I guess if I give some criteria, it'll help you help me narrow them down, so here goes...

I want something that I can keep in my pants pocket without worrying about spilling, dripping, breaking, etc. Jeans front pocket and cargo pants/shorts side pocket, depending on the day.

Will any of the delivery devices be ok if they're attached to the battery while in my pocket and laying on their side, rather than standing upright so to speak?

Also, I need the entire device from tip to tip to be no bigger than a sharpie. It also needs to be discreet looking, not look like a crack pipe. I don't want to have to explain that its not a street drug device if a co-worker sees it.

I really like the simplicity of the cig-alikes - pre-filled cartomizers. I'm not opposed to filling my own stuff down the road, but not to start out. I know filling my own stuff will save money, get me more reliable stuff and give me more options for flavored, but right now I want pre-filled stuff.

Anything you guys/gals can think of that'll fit my criteria?

Thanks again.

I'm looking for something that'll fit an eGo twist/T/C etc battery, comes pre-filled, and won't leak in my pocket. Size isn't that much of a factor, so long as the battery and whatever is going on top of it isn't much bigger than a sharpie marker.

I'm paying almost $11 per pack of smokes here in New York State. Anything cheaper than $11 per day will be saving me money.

I was a pack a day smoker and never thought I would ever quit. My husband brought home a kit from "The SafeCig" he got free from an event, it was love at first puff for me. I have noticed a lot of people start in stages, like you said the Blu and the V2. The safecig is like those brands using a small pen like device. I next moved onto "VolcanoEcigs" and bought a good kit from them that I was very happy with. After a while I wanted something that delivered more throat hit so I got an APV device which is like the "Lava Tube" in where it is a variable voltage device. For a fairly new vaper I would suggest something along the lines of and Ego Twist type. Volcano sells some good kits that come with the battery charger to get you started. However there are lots of other sites that sell products along those lines, ApolloEcigs, MadVapes, LiteCig, to name just a few. Its hard not to get overwhelmed with so many products out there and it takes some trial and error to find the right device for you. I really suggest too that you have some back ups just in case that's why I recommend a kit that comes with a battery style device and also a smaller one that comes with a USB connector so you have something to use while your bigger battery is charging. All in all the basic things in my opinion to have is a kit with 2 devices, the battery and USB chargers/connectors for them, a few packs of cartomizers to start you off and a few types of E-juice. It can start to add up money wise so once you decide what type of device you'd like, shop around searching some other sites to make sure your getting a good price. Look up coupon codes too for which ever site you decide on. I wish you the best, good luck and congrats on switching to ecigs!

You can stick a pre-filled Blu cartomizer on any Ego battery because they are both 510 threaded. Voila! You can buy the pre-filled cartomizers at any Walgreens/comes 5 to a pack and cost around $15. If you want to order from the Blu site, they give you a bigger discount. They come in flavors like Menthol, Vanilla, Cherry and regular tobacco. If you order from Blu, there are more choices in flavors.

Make sure you save the empty cartomizers because later on in your journey, you will want to re-fill them with your own juice. Once you get the hang of THAT, then you will be "off to the races!"
