Three weeks ago I decided I needed to try fused claptons and alien wire builds for my rda's. I invested in buying the goon 1.5 and bought expensive pre-built fused claptons and aliens. I must say that I wasn't too impressed with those compared to my 22G Kanthal builds. I tried multiple coil positions and wicked in so many different ways I must've gone through about 30 cotton pads. I don't like either how the coils retain the heat so much. As far as flavor is concerned yeah they give off decent flavor.

But after getting really fed up with my 8 wrap fused claptons in my goon I decided to make a 9 wrap 22G kanthal build for my goon. The end result is shocking. I feel like I get more flavor now. The ramp up is faster. I think I'm going to step away from fancy coils and stick with my straight wire. Does anyone feel the same?

I build all those crazy builds (alien and staggered fused claptons) and nothing can beat the good old single strand coils I use (SS 18g-22g). Easy to wrap and taste/clouds are just as good as any exotic coil I have built.

I'm down to two types. 2x(30/28/26) + 36 parallel and simple round wire 30-24. Keep both stainless and kanthal on hand. Between the two I have been able to make all my atties pretty much shine. I've got Daedalus wire winding whosit so I only stock round wire. I've tried more exotic wires and as above just not that impressed. I do however appreciate the artistry that goes into creating the more exotic coils and enjoy looking at pictures of some of the wild wires people create.

That’s the problem with exotic builds. They hold heat longer. You can get bigger clouds with exotics because of increased surface area but annoying bystanders hasn’t been a goal of mine since high school. I got 22ga straight wire in my builds atm too.

I'll admit I prefer claptons/fused or plain for most of my builds, other than a single round in my more "restricted dl" type tanks. I've also used fused claptons and they're OK. BUT I use them on TC. That gives me a fast preheat I can customize, and limits the metal from getting too hot at the end of a draw. When I first tried claptons in VW I hated them as they got too hot at the end of the draw and I stopped using them. In time, I decided for no good reason to try them in TC mode and they were great for me. Yes, more cloud which doesn't thrill me, but excellent flavor. It all comes down to personal preference.

I prefer single coils and non-exotic builds and although it's partially due to skill limitation (I mean I know I can buy them, for example) I just enjoy the simplicity of a very simple build and I like not having tons of metal inside my tanks.... I've tried a couple different premade wires and I tend not to like the coils as much as the ones I use (with that said, I am using MTL RTAs, where that's really preferred, sometimes. :)

With that said, I think some of those more complex builds and wires LOOK amazing and they can sure produce vapor.....

So yeah it's kind of a preference thing.

Never tried fancy wire or anything thicker then 28G.
Right now I use 30G for everything. 20W to 80W, depending on atty/coil size. Heats up fast and produces tons of cool vapor, just the way I like it.

I do like looking at fancy coils, but using them or even building them myself? Nah.

I've often compared the hobby aspect of vaping to fishing.
You can have an absolutely wonderful experience using cheap, off the shelf hardware, or you can complicate the :censored: out of it, depending on how far you take the custom gear, tying your own flies, etc.
I buy the best hardware I can afford from reputable manufacturers (Smok, Sigelei, Aspire...) but I haven't gotten into the DIY stuff.
Why fix something that already works?

I use 26ga round SS316L exclusively now. I have tried some exotics but building the wire itself takes too much time for too little of a reward and no way on this planet am I adding the expense of buying prebuilts. I know it's not "THAT" expensive but one of my primary goals of vaping was to reduce costs to as close to zero as possible. I bought 100ft of the SS wire for just a few bucks 2 years ago and probably still have 80+ feet.

Not sure what builds you use but I find fused claptons really shine in the .16 to .2 range about 80-90 watts, where did ya get the coils though? If from fasttech alienwire is usually just flapton (flat wire core) and the fused claptons are usually twisted to crap and you won't get a quality vape.

What do I build in my RDA? I use 26/32 SS 316L Clapton, generally in the .25 range which gives me a great vape around 70w

What advantage could these builds offer over a standard build well there is this I'm not sure if it's really an advantage but the coil itself can actually act as a wick as well especially when you start using multi more fused claptons with a very thin outer wire EG: 28x4 wrapped in 40g like these guys $3.28 Authentic Vapefly Ni80 Fused Clapton Pre-coiled Coil - 6pcs/pack / w/ cotton / 28*3/40 AWG / 0.32mm*3/0.08mm dia. / 0.35ohm at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping NOTE: I haven't purchased those before.

In the end.. It doesn't matter what you vape, it doesn't matter how you vape all that matters is that you vape and you stay off the stinkies..

All my pre-builts came from the company Maui. They are supposed so have superior quality. I tried their 8 wrap fused claptons made from kanthal and nichrome ohming out to .3 and 3 core aliens made from the same materials at .13

I have tried some fancy coils and imo, no difference . It sounds cool and looks cool, but it's just much of a difference imo. I would bet anyone here that , I would take their tank and make 2 builds, one with a fancy alien clapton hendrix helix coil and the other plain round, both with the same juice and identical tank and have you do a blindfold test and doubt you could tell the difference. But then again maybe you could and I would look like a fool...
