lots of spam lately?

I've seen at least 3 threads in the last week by members whose sixth post was touting the great new mod they just found. What's up with that? Oddly, they're not all for the same mod, but it seems a bit fishy to me.

But seriously if you suspect shenanigans you could always point it out. Shilling and spamming aren't taken kindly by the moderators. The forum mods are pretty experienced and can quickly decide if a post is actionable.

It is sometimes very difficult to spot the non-bot spammers. You could really help us out if you see a questionable post, or obvious spam, by reporting it using the little button that looks like a triangle with an exclamation point in it that shows under the post.

Luckily, most spammers just aren't smart enough to read that they have to post their first five posts in the New Members Forum, so they're pretty easy to spot.

I'll go back and see if I can find them and I'll hit the report button. I'm not positive they're spam, but it was three nearly identical posts by different memberships. It seemed suspicious to me.

I agree. The five post rule and the 24 hour edit rule are often a source of complaints, but they both serve us well here.

The good news is, I went back to look for those posts to report and one of them had already been deleted. I guess I wasn't the only one who thought something was up.
