We’re thinking about installing an outdoor security camera. We’re thinking wireless, maybe connected to our phones. We don’t want anything with a bazillion bells and whistles. I’ve done a lot of research on the subject but there are so many and the prices are all over the place.

Do any of you have one? Comments?

I do, however, they are a couple years old and the models seem to change every year, so I doubt I could be helpful ..

BTW, Bea .. Iles gets quite graphic .. in fact, near pornographic at points and quite violent .. not slamming his writing, he's a great writer and keeps you engaged .. but, 'The Bone Tree' and I'm sure the rest of the trilogy are definitely R+ .. the work seems to beg for a TV Series or a Series of films .. I know I've certainly fallen down his rabbit hole ..

although my central air unit is fairly new, it's lucky to get the indoor temp down to 78o and that's a few hours after I turn it on in the morning ..

I've learned from experience - that during a heat wave or any Hot/Humid day really - if you keep the AC on, say at least 10* degrees lower then outside temp, even when you are not there it is not as bad as if you started it and waited until the rooms/apt got reasonably cool hours later . . . Was even less expensive and put less strain on the AC Unit too . . . An example: Say you have the temp control always set at 78*/80* and the outside Heat/Humidity went over 80* AC would turn on and keep the inside at the more reasonable temp with less humidity to get rid of . . . However, if you turn on AC with the inside temp already at 90* & up - of course it would take much longer to cool down and remove the excess humidity . . . The same can be said if you have a heating unit also and a cold spell comes though - if unit is set at 55*/60* and the temp is below outside - less time to heat up . . . Just Sayin' . . .

And here I thought I was saving .. o_O .. I leave the workshop at 6 PM and turn the air up to 86 .. when I get in the next day around 8 AM - 9 AM, the temp in the shop is usually around 82 .. I then turn it down to 72o and during a heatwave like this, is lucky to get to 78o by the time I leave again at 6 PM .. there have been days I've forgot to turn it up when I leave, but although it's nice and cool when I get there, it still heats up ..

The technique works fine when temps max out at around the high 80's during the day .. it's just when things are hitting the mid 90's + ..

My system is a couple of years old, and I use wired cctv cameras so I'm not sure what is good for a wireless camera.

    Hola ..

The current heatwave here in Fly Over Country is just brutal .. heat indexes above 100o, it's already in the high '80's by 10 AM .. the air conditioning is working overtime and I'm sure the Electric Company will be getting a nice windfall .. humidity is high and thick ..

I took in 6 instruments for repair since Monday and a special order to build a new guitar for an old customer .. so, I'm at the grindstone .. the workshop is in a 100 year old building and although my central air unit is fairly new, it's lucky to get the indoor temp down to 78o and that's a few hours after I turn it on in the morning ..

Oh, well .. July .. what can you do .. ??

And, so much for the theory that Covid would slow down in the Summer ..
    91 in the NORTHEAST.

Heatwave here is also brutal...:( My poor little AC unit has been going 24/7 and can't get the temps in here any lower than 77, sometimes it doesn't go below 81. I spend a lot of time in my underwear and drinking copious amounts of water.

Because of that I did my shopping at 9 am today, hoping to be home before it hits the 90's outside again. Had to stop at Wawa to get an item that wasn't available at Aldi and OMG... Standing in line to checkout, the fellow in front of me was exchanging words with some donkey who had come in without a mask. PA has mandated masks in any public place. He told the maskless one that he was really being obnoxious and inconsiderate...that many people such as the elderly were at real risk by his actions. The donkey then called the fellow an ugly term, use your imagination, referencing 'gay'...:-x It's been years since I've heard anyone react that way just because the fellow had long hair! It never ceases to amaze me how hateful people can be, and it shouldn't matter if the fellow was gay or not....such words are never called for. The fellow then replied with a better synonym for 'donkey'...;) The donkey left the store and I thanked the fellow for calling him out.

Back in Shirley's car I told her about it. She then told me why she gets so angry at those who refuse to wear a mask, but is afraid to say anything because you never know if someone may pull out a gun and shoot you. Her reason for so much anger...her daughter has chronic lymphona cancer, and while it's under control, she will be taking chemo pills for the rest of her life. On top of that her daughter is a teacher and the whole family is stressed out with the POTUS insisting that all schools open, regardless of what's happening, while threatening to withhold federal funds for education if they don't open...

What is wrong with people that they have so little care for the lives of other people?:(

Good afternoon, all. I really hate it when I get organized. I went to Harbor Freight a couple of weeks ago and bought a heavy-duty magnet and a couple of circular saw blades for cutting plywood for a special project. Today, I went to the shop and couldn't find the blades or the magnet. I tore through the shop, garage, house, and the Jeep. I have no idea what I did with them.
I haven't been posting much recently, although, I have been keeping up with the post daily. July is a bad month for me. July 1st is our anniversary and would have been our 31 anniversary and on top of that July 5th is the anniversary of Nancy's passing. So needless to say I have been in major depression. On top of this my last visit with my pain management doctor, he is not giving prescriptions for the pain meds. Instead, he gave me a med for opioid withdrawal. Loads of fun all around. Oh well, and life goes on.
One thing I have been doing is watching Westworld on HBO. Wow, a really good series full of all kinds of twists and turns. My next series will be The Wire. I got interested in it during the last season. Sometimes I feel like a jinx when it comes to TV shows, it seems that when I get interested in a series it gets taken off the air.
Thanks for hearing me out. I hope everyone has a good night.

Maybe your doctor doesn't know about pain. Maybe the next one will.
There is a whole backstory on him. Long story short, the District Attorney had him arrested for issuing too many prescriptions to his patients and he is unable to write any more at this time.

I think I need to add....I do understand that there are people who are exempt from a mask for various medical reasons. Had the person given an explanation as to why he wasn't wearing one, instead of immediately getting surly, the conversation would never have escalated as it did...

Good morning. Geez, feels like I need gills it's so humid outside. It's so heavy out there! We did get some rain and the grass looks a little better, but we need a soaking rain. Mostly we've just got the clouds and the storms are passing us by.

Aren't we lucky to be able to be cool inside! Stay inside and enjoy your view! I think the older we get the less we tolerate the heat. Even the critters are looking to cool off. The squirrels come onto the deck and immediately lay down flat on the stomachs, especially in the shade under the table. Sometimes I see the birds sitting on the fence with their wings held away from their bodies and their beaks are open. Looks like they're panting.

It's been so dang hot that even the varmints ( that's what I'm calling the dang squirrels...) are laying low and leaving my bird feeders alone!

We did the same thing…recorded on my iphone…when we had the surgery discussion with my cardiologist…of course we got his permission. Otherwise by the time we got home we'd be asking each other “what did the doc say about…”

We still do all our grocery ordering with Walmart's curbside pickup. The fresh fruits and veggies have all been excellent quality except zucchini and yellow squash. Gary has to run in for those but that’s a really short trip versus a couple hours to get everything else. You should try it and it’s free as long as you have $35 minimum.

    https://www.walmart.com/grocery/ or download the app.

That's a great idea to record your doc visit. We usually make sure we have another family member with us when it comes to an important appointment, but I'd definitely consider recording it if it was a serious situation. Sometimes we're still digesting one statement and miss what comes next. Years ago, as the designated family advocate, I wish I'd been able to record a phone visit with a doc because he later said I was lying. "Never said that!!" It's in my notes you fraud!!!

My daughter used the Wallmart curbside pickup when Hux was a baby. It was a huge help! And now with Covid it can be a big help especially with 2 little kids that shouldn't be running around a store touching everything and people who are vulnerable to serious complications.

Brian went with Arlo for outdoor security cameras as well as monitoring the grandkids rooms at our daughter's house. The video quality is so much better than the ring doorbell camera that we have. They're not inexpensive though, if cost is a prime concern.

FYI: Also be aware of the "Security" of any Security Camera, especially given some of the major reports of them being "Hacked" with people looking in on what you/children are doing and some of these cameras even allow the "perverts" to talk to/threaten them/Ya' . . . BTW: This can also happen with people invading you home using a on-board computer camera too . . . Just Sayin' . . .
