As we travel we always look for the local places. We can eat at a chain anywhere and although the food is good and usually consistent, a nice local diner is refreshing. We like to ask locals "where to you eat" and have had some great food!

Me, I'm off to VA to bring Janet home. I'll drive down today, stay over night, then we'll come on back tomorrow morning. Got my playlist set for the drive ... some oldies but goodies to keep me company.
We do, as well, and even around home The small "hole in the wall" restaurants often make up for their lack of "ambience" and name recognition by putting out excellent food at good prices.

What a wonderful day this has been... Five hours of roaming four floors of artists and their work. I wish all those of you who are fans of horror and fantasy books could have gone with me. There were paintings and sculptures that covered everything from whimsical, to fantasy and the macabre... Two of the artists there, whose names you might be familiar with, that were in attendance...Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell....but there were a myriad of others with wonderful pieces that I felt were just as good.
I wish I had taken a camera, but Daughter did take a few shots with her phone and when she sends them I will share with you all. In the meantime....just a few of the business cards I picked up...

although Forest was unable to attend, she had been commissioned to create this piece, titled Octopoid, for the event, which was featured on posters there...

My Grandson with Anthony Kosar....very friendly and full of encouragement and advice for my Grandson, who, like my son was, is very interested in special effects, the makeup used, and creating prosthetics for film...

Have you read Stephen King's Dreamcatcher? That one will give you the shakes!I was a big Horror fan for a long, long time .. it just eventually got to the point where it seemed like it had all been done before .. there was nothing fresh .. it kind of went the same way with me on Sci Fi as well .. I still enjoy good Fantasy fiction in the vein of "Lord of the Rings" .. Historical novels / Bernard Cornwell are always great, lately, I've gone to sleep with Alternative History .. (no Strange Bedfellow Jokes, please ..
I don't really know why I got into Alternative History, other than a suggestion from someone .. you'd think the Modern World Reality would be alternative enough ..
The bird with a human skull is my favorite in that collection. Inspired by Waterworld, I can't think of what--- went to J-wraps to find the name. Steampunk.
I really regret not taking a camera....there was just so much there to see...the artists were friendly and had no objections to photos. It was so nice to be among artists again and discuss mediums and techiques... IX has signed a 5 year contract with Goggleworks Center, and I'm already looking forward to next years exhibition...
