A sunny 42 here atm, but heading to the low 70s for today. Rain seems to have backed off for a few days.

Nothing amazing really about making suet. Bea gave me the recipe. I mix the flour, oatmeal and corn meal in a big bowl while I melt lard and peanut butter on the stove. Mix them together and you've got suet! I line an 8x13 pan with wax paper and pour the suet in. Refrigerate. After a few hours, or the next morning, I lift out the suet and cut it into 12 sections and store it in a plastic bag in the fridge. The original recipe called for Crisco and the birds seemed to like that, but I figured I'd try lard and they seem to like it better. Both work though. You can mix in seeds if you want, but it doesn't seem to be necessary. If you're interested in making some I'll give you the recipe.

Since I started putting this suet out I now have blue birds at the feeder and that's something I was hoping for. They're so pretty, but when the starlings show up they chase them away.

We had a flock of wild turkeys in our back yard once a long time ago, but haven't seen them since. We love spotting the wild critters.

Good grief Janet!! I've become as lazy as a pet .......I rarely cook or bake for myself!:D

Hi All,

Not much going on here except playing in the gardens. Said I was going to curb my gardening these last two years, but like my moniker, it's in my soul! The weather has been so beautiful lately with cool ocean breezes in the mornings and evenings!

Hope you are all doing well

I have had to seriously cut back on gardening. Just can't do it anymore. I did manage to repot 2 roses today. I can remember a time when I could do 40 in a day, easily.

Hello all. Another beautiful day in South Carolina. Joe LOVED his chicken livers. He was so excited to get them. He ate them out on the porch, didn't even want to take the time to go into the dining room. I brought what he couldn't eat home and will return with them on Monday. The problem is I know they're sitting there in the fridge calling my name, but I will resist!!

Tomorrow my niece is coming to take us into downtown Aiken for lunch and then stroll around to the shops. It's a small town, but very quaint as I remember it. Some of the places around here have dropped the mask requirements. Just wear them if you want to. It feels so liberating not to wear one - almost like normal times.

Morning, loungers. Overcast, maybe, and on the cool side. Said to clear up, but stay cool. Uh huh, we'll see!

Uh, how many of those folk have really had the shots, though? SC sits about 40%... That's our concern here, even though at a higher percent. How do you know "that person" has had the shots or just doesn't like helping to keep their neighbors safe?

Hola from Myrtle Beach .. :)

Chicken Livers, Black Eye Peas, Turnip Greens and Cornbread may be my most favorite meal .. well, Ribs, Crab Legs, Jambalaya, Fresh Shrimp and more also are at the top of the list ..

I'm going to sell my home and move to Myrtle Beach .. I had truly forgotten how much I had always been drawn to the Ocean ..

Well, no, I don't think I'm moving .. the cost of any Real Estate around here is insane .. my Aunt Anita owns a 3 BR condo 2 story and was offered $325,000 for it last month just out of the clear blue .. it's maybe 13-1400 SF .. I mean, it's nice and all, but jeeze .. o_O

The area is a Seafood Lovers delight .. but, it's really a Tourist Town .. plenty of Touristy things to do, hell, wanna go on a one hour Horseback Beach ride at sunset .. ?? Just like in the Movies .. ?? They got you covered at $200 a head .. for an hour ..

Truthfully, the place kind of reminds me of the Florida West Coast, minus the blue water .. "Red Neck Riviera" ..

I found a picture of @Uncle Willie 's truck at his mechanic's shop.

    View attachment 942179

hmmm? Staged, maybe, because there's no junk in front of the truck, just doesn't seem possible that nothing accumulated in front of it. Is that what you meant by 'fake'.

There's a market for everything I suppose. Do you have the Cracker Barrel chain of eateries in your area. The walls are hung with old farm implements and other 'antique' stuff in general. It's actually 'newly' manufactured to look old just to be used in that type of atmosphere for the look of 'old stuff'.

If you examine the photo Mike posted, you'll notice that it appears a new roof was put on the old barn .. and the area under the eaves appears to be either Photoshopped with a cedar faux spray or the wood never weathered ..

But, since that's my daily driver, of course it's not sitting on 4 flats .. ;)

Ahhhhh fond memories of being stationed in the Air Force base there. Nothing like a seafood buffet downtown. Clamming at the several Inlets...

Got here Wednesday afternoon .. spent Tuesday night in Knoxville, TN .. about the halfway point .. Anita's son's, my Cousins, as well as their wives are also here .. one is a retired NYPD officer, another is a Scientist and the third is a Doorman at a ritzy High Rise off Central Park, in NYC .. I feel like I'm in the middle of the Village People .. ;)

Doorman :: "Hey, Willie, join me tomorrow when I hit the Pier at 6:00 AM for some fishing .." .. "Sorry, man .. unless they are paying me, I'm not getting up at 5:00 AM .. this is supposed to be a Vacation .."

and so on and so on and Scooby Doobie Doobie ..

So, what am I doing .. ?? Hit the beach a couple times, laying on a lounge chair with an umbrella and a cocktail in hand .. listening to the Ocean and watching a wonderful parade of Bathing Beauties ..

But mostly, I am spending time with my Aunt, learning more and more about my Family History, the things I missed as well as her incredible story .. and videoing as much as I can for Posterity .. she's quite lively for 90, very articulate even with her German accent .. and pouring thru her stash of old Family Photos .. I brought my scanner and laptop in order to capture those ..

Here is a photo of my Grandmother and Grandfather, Peter and Katharina in their later years ..

No, I don't know how many people have had their shots. I also don't know, nobody does, how many have already recovered from the virus since so many had mild or no symptoms and were untested and unreported. According to the CDC we must get vaccinated so we're very unlikely to get the virus or spread it, and if we do get sick, as with other vaccines, it will be very mild. So regardless of how many got the shot, many more are already immune. Also, there is supposed to be a 98% incidence of recovery. If we've believed the CDC so far, why would I not believe them when they say we don't need masks? If I had underlying conditions or an establishment indicates they want patrons to wear a mask to enter then I wear a mask. Otherwise I don't.

Besides, masks give a false sense of security because of the bacteria/virus they harbor and they reduce oxygen levels in the blood.

I think we've all been so terrified for so long by all the negative news that's it's going to take awhile for us to feel comfortable with getting back to normal life, germs and all.

I hope you had safe travels and that Rocket is settling in to his new home.

Scanning channels, NatGeo replayed the AKC National Agility Championships. Wow those dogs can fly! I had a greater appreciation of all that goes into it because of what you've shared, so thank you.

Good morning from sunny and hot South Carolina. I think we're going to have to break down and turn on the AC. Looks like our temps are going to be in the high 90s this week. So far it hasn't been too bad, but last night I was pretty warm at bedtime.

Cathy, I hope you and Rocket are having a wonderful time getting to know each other! He's one lucky pup.

    Good morning friends.
I'm on my laptop because my desktop went bad. I have a tech coming out on Mon. to get it running properly.
I'm not in very good health right now so I won"t be on as often as I normally am
My new mantra is" old age ain't for sissies" :D
