dh likes them and there is two sitting in the fridge right now. He doesn't have to worry about ME eating them! I love fruit but find it time consuming -- except for things like nectarines, peaches, bananas and such. Oh, do I have a dessert recipe for you if you like peaches.... Peach kuchen....

I had to look that up. Never knew a coffeecake is also called that. :?: :D

This isn't a coffee cake. It is peach halves with a crumbly crust pressed into the pan and then covered with heavy cream and baked in the oven. One of our neighbors was german and shared the recipe with me.....

Hahahaha! That's promised to hit the spot!

I got this from a dictionary: A coffeecake raised with yeast, often containing fruit and nuts. [German, from Middle High German kuoche, cake, from Old High German kuocho... :?:

We actually had germans on both sides of us but only one of them was a master cook. The others bought the house just above us from the jewish family that had lived there. They couldn't cook but at least they were quiet! They were a little younger than my parents and it was interesting to listen to them the few times they brought WWII up. I know they despised cabbage and vowed to never eat it again.

Bye Gram! I'm going to try something new with my little babies tonight. One of them is so far ahead of the others in size, eating ability, etc., but they all insist on the bottle. Absolutely will NOT drink water from a bowl. I stopped on the way home and bought them some goats milk to try. Should be tastier than that old powdered kitten milk and hopefully will fatten the other three up.

That would be interesting!

I'll tell ya, money can't buy quiet neighbors, or good neighbors. :)

Later Glam! :)

I'm not disagreeing with you, Sun. As I said, I had to look it up and brought back the net def. I love strudels! :D

Oh, I didn't think you were disagreeing, but had found another meaning for coffee cake. I was just trying to make sure you realized this wasn't breakfast food, although I would be willing to eat it for breakfast. Every day lol.

Everyday?

Who does the cooking in your household?

DW does mostly. I can cook almost as well and make a few things she can't, but she doesn't like the mess I make and I get lazy. :D

Tell me about it. THANK GOD the idiot crackheads across the street moved out. We have had one unruly bunch after another over there and I am tired of it. All of the others are great neighbors so I guess I am lucky.

Did someone call the cops? Or, they just moved along? Yup, lucky if you have good neighbors, even better if it's long term neighbors! :)

Give her this recipe from me...

Peach Kuchen

1/2 C butter, softened
1/2 tsp salt
2 C all purpose flour
6 fresh peaches skinned and halved or 2 large cans, rinsed, patted dry
1/4 tsp baking powder
3/4C + 2 T sugar, divided
2 egg yolks, beaten
1 C heavy cream - may substitute sour cream
1 tsp cinnamon

Oven 400. 8 " pan - very lightly greased.

Sift flour, baking powder, salt, and 2 T sugar. Use fork to work in butter
until resembling coarse meal. Pat mixture evenly into pan and most of the
way up the sides. Press firmly. Fill pan with peaches, concave side up.
Combine rest of sugar and cinnamon - sprinkle over peaches. Bake 15 min.
Lightly hand beat yolks and add 1 C cream. Mix well and pour over peaches.
Level of cream should be below crust edge. Bake 25-30 min. Serve warm.

Y'all are gonna love this!
