When I was a kid, we lived in this house that had this wonderful tree beside it. I'd get a book and climb the thing and read.
The bad thing was it WAS right by the house so all mom had to do was open a window and yell if she had something that needed to be done.
There was nine of us kids and there was always something that needed to be done! :grr:

Wow, nine kids! I just don't know how they did it back then, how did they feed you all? Both my mom's and dad's sides have at least 5 each.

As for chores, have you noticed they're never ending?

Hi Guys....cannot stay. Too much going on....cleaning house....getting ready for mom in law, and of course the lady I dog sit for has an emergency and needs me to come to her house for a couple of hours in the morning to sit with her new puppy so I will be down there when MIL gets here...and today my neighbor has discovered emerald ash borer in one of her ash trees. We have 4 ash trees so have been researching what to do before they get mine (and there is something available) so this evening it is a run to the garden center to see if they have what is needed.

When it rains....it pours!!!! See you whenever.

And most importantly....my prayers and warm hugs to Amanda.

Aloha Glam! :)

Good to see you swinging and hopping. Don't w.w.......w...too hard and see you soon...

I don't know how it was done!!
It wasn't easy on mom since dad was an alcoholic.
I do remember the trips to the store though. There was only one car and when we got older and mom got sick, me and my sister (who is one year older) did it. There was three stores in town and after visiting each one, we'd have to cart the stuff the nine blocks home. After three trips, we were plum tuckered out!!

Aww...that must have been hard. It was just given back then, kids help. I think kids worked harder then. Yeah, I remember carrying groceries. It didn't seem as much like work as today, different attitude for me.

I didn't really work until age 14, started stocking and "manning" the cash register at dad's candy store (remember those?). Didn't stop working until I 'retired'. :)

I actually think it's a bad thing that kids don't work like they use to....gives some more time to get into trouble.

I started babysitting about 12 and used the money for clothes. Until then it was hand-me-downs.

It was a good thing that I didn't work in a candy store. You know me and my sweet tooth!!!

Lots of hand me downs for me...even now! I have some sports coats from my dad still, but not QUITE the right size. :D

Kids need to learn responsibility, the value of money and....failures. The last one seems to be slowly removed from their dictionary, for the purpose of building a false self-esteem. But I'm really old school and better keep it zipped.

Well I guess I should keep it zipped too!

I do a lot of Goodwilling for every day clothes. Dress up I go to the real stores!!

I buy new, haven't gone to Goodwill, which is not always cheaper though there are bargains. Would you believe I never pay more than $15 for jeans/pants, new? I spend so little on cloths that I don't even have that itme in my budget, and you know I budget everything!

I know and I keep a close eye ball on sales and the clearance rack. Especially for grand kid stuff!

Question: A friend of mine on here has a "Moved on" status. What does that mean, they canceled membership or a number of other reasons? :?:

They have been banned or have ask for their account to be closed.

Thanks too, jj. Either one, I guess they're gone. Too bad...

Buying at end of season is always a good strategy. :)

I hit the stores after every holiday!!
Although GD is getting a little older so it's getting harder. I'm actually looking forward to the day that she wants money. A couple gifts and a $$$$ and I'm done!

Sales and clearance is why I've got most of my Xmas shopping done.
WalMart is a pain though--they keep moving the clearance isle!!!!!!!!!!!!

How to properly use money...another lesson kids need to learn. See, I can't keep it zipped.
