I came from a bilingual family. When I was young, I was learning both French and English at the same time. That all changed as later on, the only people who spoke to me in French were my Grandmother and my Mother. Soon, I could just understand French, but not speak it well, since I never used it. My Dad has always refused to speak to me in French and still does. As a result, I only speak English now and dabble a little bit in French and Spanish. How I wish that I had grown up bilingual. :(

Well my school didn't offer Spanish back then. They did offer French which I took and I remember zilch!

I think you are a whole lot smarter than you let on!!! :)

And oh goodie the forum is putting all my past quotes in when I do a new one.

You know English well enough to be able to read and write it, Lis, I bet that you would do well speaking it, too. You will have an accent, but that's not a big deal. Isn't there anyone who you can speak English to ?

it is not the accent jerry, it is that i hardly have the opportunity to speak english only a few words once in a while and can almost read but i am not fluent

I took French in school, Jan and was miserable at it, I was used to the spoken Canadien French. The school taught Parisian French, it's a different dialect. Sometimes I ask my Dad, in French, if he will speak French with me. He always responds, "no" in English.
