I have come to think that the best way to learn any language is to just immerse yourself in it. I bet that if you moved to an English speaking community, you would be fluent quite soon, Lis.

Yep, you just have plunge in and put your native language on hold. When you start dreaming in your "learning" language, you know you've made it!

When I first arrived in the US, the English teacher told me to think in English. I learned and have been doing it ever since, but I can still choose to think in Chinese. It does help a lot!! :)

Of course not. But this is late for you too! Not working tomorrow. :)

Oh, have you met Ginger before?

I do have to work tomorrow, but won't have to be really productive immediately.

I have met/read ginger before at JJs place- albeit briefly, and awhile ago. Hi Ginger!

CES hi :) and bye :(

HI JJ

"Thinking" in a another language is weird at first. I thought I was all good when I moved to Sweden but it took me like 6 months to really think "Swedish". It would be so much harder for someone who didn't grow up hearing the language spoken at home.

I still dream in Swedish now and then and it makes me kind of freak out when I wake up since I don't know where I am for a couple seconds.

when you dream in the language is when you really know you're fluent...but i wouldn't have bargained for the disorientation..(but, heck, I'm not entirely sure i even dream in english- it's all images, not words, when i even remember)

I think it took me 6 - 12 months. I was 14 then. We didn't speak English at home, so that didn't help.
