So, in all that watching ... is this or is this not one of the oddest you've seen? :)

Five days is an eternity here:

We just don't know. But then, if these things were 100% predictable .... meh.

Mornin' NCC and Chris. Yeah -- 5 days? If it hangs through the state for 5 days we are going to be drowned rats! The little creek at the base of the hill in my backyard is a raging river right now... I love watching this happen because this is when the stream always ends up changing course due to new impediments to its flow. I hope there is not more kittens down there.... Okay -- getting dressed and getting my babies together for spay/neuter! BBIAW

Yeah, prediction is ...difficult NCC.
The NHC has become much better at forecasting motion over the years (intensity, not so much). The only similar storm that comes to mind is Juan in 1985 over coastal Louisiana.

Well, off to work. Maybe Debby knows I have to work through Thursday and is waiting for my weekend to make landfall, LOL.

Good Morning Beachers:

Glad our beach does not look like this today. Hope everyone in the wake of Debbie's wind and rain are doing well.

Panama City Beach looks like this when there are no storms....(NCC does not visit the beach then.)

We used to vacation there every year before spring breakers and corporate American discovered it and ruined it for us old timers. The panhandle beaches are the best in continental U.S. in my opinion.

Gram -- we went there all the time too. When I was teaching in Albany is was just a hop and a skip down the road. We always stayed out on the west end of the beach at the Palmetto - nice big rooms and a kitchenette for breakfast and lunch. Do you remember that horribly tacky little mom and pop hotel? All the units were painted in bright pink, green, blue, yellow, etc. As tacky as it was I hate to think of it being gone. Gosh -- I could go for a captain's platter from Captain Anderson's! Time for breakfast....

Yes Sun....I do remember all those tacky, WONDERFUL, mom and pop hotels. $29 a night...and all rooms had kitchenettes. Anybody in American who could afford to get there, could afford a beach vacation. Everything was cheap, touristy, and so much fun. Ate my first snow cone ever on that beach. Sigh....now it is high rises, expensive restaurants, fancy boutiques--it has been "Americanized". You cannot even drive along there and look at the beach now....you cannot see it. The greed factor wanting to utilize every speck of view has taken over.:( At least we have memories.:)

I had to go look after I posted and see if the Palmetto is still there.... it is, but now it isn't a two story but a multi story hotel. I'd still stay there if I ever went back over there....

...hour or so.

LOL -- You're gonna have to come HERE if you want lively conversation out of me before tonight. I just took a break after pressure washing the patio wall and the pool deck. Still have plants to get into pots, kittens to pick up, weeds to pull, yard waste to put out, and the patio to set back up. Hope your walk was nice! BBL

Not unless I have business to tend to. It's too hot unless it's Winter or overcast.

We used to vacation there every year before spring breakers and corporate American discovered it and ruined it for us old timers. The panhandle beaches WERE the best in the Southeast.
I fixed that for ya. Yeah, a lot of the Panhandle beaches have been wrecked, they're toast. There are still some National Seashore & State Park beaches that are nice ... if you can ignore the high rise condos in the distance. Even those, I've never really enjoyed unless it was cool &/or cloudy. A little wind and light rain never hurt a beach walk for me either, just gravy.

One of the most beautiful features of the local beaches were the amazing sand dunes. A few of them towered 30-40 feet high! They were stable enough to appear on USGS topographic maps. They contained unique and fragile ecological micro-environments, niches that supported some amazing plants and animals. They're gone, for the most part. In my mind, they distinguished the beaches from a children's sand box with gulls. Obviously, the powers that be didn't share my enthusiasm for the dunes, since they've been replaced with condos. Progress.

It all works out alright. The conditions I like aren't real popular with the tourists ... and I'd rather not share the beach with them anyway. :)
