The Navy was after me to join. A recruiter kept calling me, but I told him that I didn't want a four year hitch and that I would wait to be drafted into the Army and a two year hitch.

Three of my cousins joined the Navy, to stay out of Vietnam. It worked for two of them, but the third one found himself manning a 30 cal machine gun on a gunboat on the Mekong River.

But you do! There are taxes on electricity, water, telephone (even VoIP phone service), gasoline, property, taxes on health insurance and so on and so on. If your money is making interest or dividends, more taxes there...but that's another good topic for the Outside as it were.

What works better for me to get into a low delta sleep (1/2-4 Hz) is when I relax before I go to sleep. First I relax my toes, then my ankles, then my knees, etc. If I dream, then I'm only in a theta sleep (4-8 Hz), and I wake up to any little noise. If I can get to theta, I can sleep dreamless and through branches hitting the house and other outside noise. In fact, even if I have to get up for a nature call, then I can always get back to sleep easily. Reading or running energy always gets me into an alpha state, so it's easier from there for me. Different strokes for different folks, though.

A little over my head. I guess I fall "sound" asleep as they say. Once I fall asleep, pretty hard to wake me. I don't even get up for nature calls. I'm lucky, usually at least 6 hours at a chunk.

But I can't do short naps, since deep sleep doesn't lend itself to being yanked awake again in a couple hours. I'd be groggy for a long time.
