Man, I've been vaping about four years, always doing deep mouth to lung inhales. I had tried direct lung hits from time to time but never got the hang of it. Finally a fellow vaper educated me on direct lung inhales. Damn, what a revelation. It took a few days of practice, but now I don't think I could ever go back. Much better taste, more vapor, and a better nic hit. I love the feeling in my chest as I breathe in. I'd def give direct lung inhales a try.

Mouth to lung with smokes.

Mouth to lung with clearomizers.

Lung inhaler with the lemo and dripper.

I think it boils down to airflow with me. If there is a ridiculous amount of airflow, I lung inhale without even thinking about it. If the airflow is restricted, I first puff and then draw the vape into my mouth before inhaling.

I restrict the airflow significantly on my Erlkonigin (RTA) so I can mouth inhale which is both more comfortable and tasty for me. If I open up the airflow control, I have to lung inhale since it's too much mouth acrobatics for a large draw. Mouth inhales usually give me TH after collecting it in my mouth and doing the final inhalation into my lungs. Lung inhales give me no TH until I exhale, and then the TH is a little harsher feeling. I general like mouth inhales and setup my RTA for those.

I came across this thread while looking for the best way to inhale.

I used to inhale analogs by holding it in the mouth and then drawing it in. Tried the same with ecigs and but took longer. I used 24mg or a mix of 24 and 16 mg to get enough nicotine.
Its only been three days since I moved to vaping alone and today morning even after thirty minutes I was craving for more nic.
So I tried to inhale directly to the lungs and it worked to supress the craving in a couple of puffs. It was harsh on my throat and lungs but after about 20 puffs I got used to it.
I never liked throat hits, but in this case the nicotine delivery works better for me when directly inhaling to the lungs. Four or five puffs and I am good for some time.

I can totally get this as I'm coming off the cigs too. When I'm in a rush (work usually) and/or really craving nicotine I've developed a different method of inhale/exhale from my normal MTL. First I French inhale (which, according to YouTube, is evidently a cool vape trick, so yea! I rock.) and then I exhale through the nose as well. This serves the same purpose of giving me more nicotine absorption quicker.

Good topic. I had to figure this out on my own though I probably just didn't see where it's already been posted here.

So let us in on your method? I also agree. I started with mouth to lung until I got used to it and was off the analogues for awhile. Now I virtually ONLY do lung inhales as it staves off the nicotine craving, gives me that throat AND lung it I used to get from analogues, and the flavour is better.

If I really want to savour the taste of a new juice I do repetitive mouth to lung, mouth to nose, lung to nose inhalations. Sort of breathe it out slowly so it rises up to your nose and suck it in from there as well as mouth and throat. That way I can REALLY taste all the juices nuances using both taste AND smell! I use a Nautilus with an eLeaf iStick 50W. (Actually I use my iStick 50W for everything it is so versatile).

Normally I do mouth hits. I can do lung hits for the cloud chasing. Anyone nose hits?

I do all three. Mouth to lung, lung, mouth to nose, exhale using both mouth and nose and sorta use all my air intake holes to taste AND smell the juice. You don't eat sumptuos food with your nose closed do you? Smell to me is an adjunct to taste and both go hand in hand. Well that's IMO anyway!

I used to do mouth-to-lung inhales when I smoked my ryo tobacco. I don't think I've ever seen any smoker take direct-lung hits. But I'll pay more attention from now on... Now that I vape, I've tried various methods (also thanks to this thread ;) ). I prefer mouth-to-lung, sometimes exhaling through my nose. Direct lung-hits mute the flavour and make me cough. The clouds are nice though, but I don't use this method much.
Direct exhales through my nose (without inhaling first) are rough! It tingles my nose, but if I really need a nic-hit, that's how I do it. For throathit, I like to draw vapour into my mouth, then a quick and shallow inhale, followed by a slow exhale through my nose. This technique gives a lot of flavour as well.
The technique described by Taowulf was new to me, so I tried it. I have to agree, the flavour is great that way. But the throathit is too much, even for me (I use 12mg / ml). Perhaps I may have finally found a way to reduce my nic, I will experiment further. But, thank you Taowulf! You taught a vaper of 16 months something new :D

I uses to lung inhale with analogs (almost 20 years!), but vaping is usually closer to how I smoked cigars. Take the vapor into my mouth, inhale (mostly) air into my lungs through my nose, then exhale through my nose. The flavors really come out for me that way when vaping. Especially as my sense of smell and taste still have a way to go to be close to normal as I only stopped analogs two weeks ago. It is weird to try to describe something I don't even usually think about.

OK, so I've been trying lung hits this afternoon using the technique where you barely touch your lips to the drip tip and you inhale. Holy c**p! I definitely feel the vapor going into my lungs and I have noticed that the vapor production increases by at least 50-75% as opposed to doing a mouth to lung hit. Not what I expected at all. I can begin to really like this.
