I always find it interesting, the reasons people have for embracing a particular lifestyle (if you feel like sharing :))

Speaking for myself, I'm too much of a hedonist to deny myself the pleasures of the table. Cavier, camembert, raqulette, escargot, and smoked salmon are right at the top of my "love" list; carpaccio is another favorite (beef, not fish) as is foie gras. There's not much I won't eat, unless it's raw testicles or bugs/worms or something really off the grid (although I understand, in come cultures, those are delicacies).

I specialize in denying myself pleasure, I'm a master at it. ;)

Seriously, there are a bunch of reasons, some health related, mostly ethical. When I said a big part of my philosophy on life means not needlessly hurting another living thing I was not only talking about humans. My golden rule has a bit of a twist, Do unto others as they would have you do onto them, and I include animals in that rule.

Also there is the way it makes me feel, which is very good. Seriously doubt I could work these 20 hour shifts or keep up in other areas of my life if I was still eating meat and dairy. I eat and feel great and have a ton of energy afterwards, instead of feeling tired and lethargic.

I put on a lot of weight after a back injury and couldn't shake it for 5 years until I started this diet, lost it all and then some in a matter of a few months and it wasn't hard at all.

I struggled with my weight, too, all my life. A couple of years ago, I tried to quit smoking, depression hit, and the doctors put me on anti-depressants. The weight gain was just ridiculous, which made the depression worse. I finally had enough: quit the doctors, the meds and picked up smoking again. Then menopause hit (happy dance, and I'm not kidding!) The weight finally came off, and I felt "normal" for the first time since I was 12 years old. Now, I'm not saying I didn't watch what I ate, I did and I do. Tastes change: some things I wouldn't touch as a kid and love now (squash, for instance). I also gave up my Wineaux card, which helped as much as anything. Bottom line, one does what one has to to feel healthy (and sane).

Completely agree with that last sentence! Each of us just needs to do what is best for ourselves, that's why I don't push me views on veganism etc. on anyone. I'm more than happy to talk about anything if asked though.

We are all different, we want and need different things in our lives.
