I feel a bit...off today, maybe it was the storms last night??? I feel really tired for some reason. We had a major storm blow thru here last night and it was shaking the house like crazy. When I woke up this morning I thought I had dreamed it but when I looked outside I realized that I had definitely NOT dreamed it lol.

Morning everyone, I skimmed through a couple o pages and see some of you have pets with house training issues. My reccomendation would be to dedicate 2 weeks to it and get it over with. I house train at 8 weeks of age and by 10 weeks it is done.

1. Food and water on schedule
2. After eating/drinking take pup out and let it sniff around
3. After pee/potty reward with excited tone and bring inside
4. Repeat after 2 hours
5. Repeat for 2 weeks (yes you will loose sleep but it is just 2 weeks)
6. Mop up accidents with scent removing liquid

By day 2 you will know the pups schedule, ie, after drinking water/eating food how long does it take before he has to go. Also when you have him out and he is not pottying, throw a ball a few times, frisbee etc. A little exercise and boom he'll potty, reward with excited tone, throw toy etc. On day 4-5 start adding a command after he is out and about to go.

Yep, that's pretty much the way we do it too. During the night, the pup is either up on the bed with me (I know some trainers consider this a no-no) or tethered to the bedside table. I'm a light sleeper, so when he wakes up, I hear it and get him out. Once he's sleeping through the night, he's on "his" bed next to mine (but was still tethered until he was consistent). With one dog, her command was "finish"...it was a winter time house training and I'd be out there shivering, saying "come on, finish". With Saxon, it was just "go pee" or "gotta poop?" but he was done at 12 weeks.

Hey, what's one more?...and that's how it starts.

When we had two, I wanted a Shi Tzu. Then we found Max (5 weeks old, abandoned in a roadside ditch). Then we got Chevy (born to a stray behind our bank). Then we found Holly and Bear (6 weeks old, abandoned in a road side ditch [Bear didn't make it]). Hannah showed up (the dog who brought flowers) A few years later, Lindsay and Luke joined the pack (I actually got these two from a breeder [shepherds]). Then Murphy and Emma were found, again in a road side ditch. So, at one point, and for quite a few years, there were 11 dogs in this household.

Wow! You have quite a pack going there! if I had 11 I wouldn't have anywhere to sit. I'm sure I eventually will but I'm kinda afraid I won't be so lucky in the potty training area the 2nd time around! Lol! But I always have my eye on the humane society's web page in case any small to medium breed pups arrive. Eventually ill fall in love with another little adorable face:)

Yeah, it seems to be a "thing" down here. But, I haven't "found" any in about 9 years now, so that's good.

There was the sweetest lil pit bull mix hanging around near my apartment last summer. You could tell he'd been someone's pet. He hung around in the bushes up on the hill near my apartment. He looked scarey due to his size but he was totally harmless. He'd stand outside near some of the kids while they waited for the school bus in the morning & then go back & hide. Luckily one of my neighbors worked for the humane society. I think the poor thing must've been abused because he didn't like men. We were able to coax him onto the truck. Found out he got a great home a couple of weeks later with a single mom & her kids! I know he's gotta be happy because he loved the kids in my neighborhood! Wish I still had the pics! I would feed him but he was so malnourished & it was great to see that he had a new family & had put the weight back on!

JERRY!!!:wub::wub::wub:

Oh Chim, that's awesome that he found a home!!! They can be the sweetest doggies when raised right. My nephew and his wife have one, she's getting to be a really old girl. Her name is Molly, and she is a true sweetheart!

Lori !!!!! :wub: :wub: :wub:

Don't forget to milk the cow and feed the chickens. :laugh:
LOL!!! Okay, will do!!! The county we live in actually has more than a few dairy farms, so I wouldn't have to go far to milk one.:laugh: I can get fresh eggs just outside of the wee little village we live in. (Pop. just went to 1000 last census...LOL)
